Delhi CM Rekha Gupta participates in Yoga Day event; calls for reviving Yamuna River
New Delhi: On the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a large-scale yoga session at Sonia Vihar Water Sports Club, located near the banks of the Yamuna River.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders, including Minister Parvesh Verma, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Minister Kapil Mishra, and Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly Mohan Singh Bisht.
Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts gathered early in the morning to take part in the session, held in the scenic backdrop of the Yamuna. The Chief Minister used the moment to emphasise the connection between well-being, nature, and civic responsibility.
Speaking at the session, CM Rekha Gupta said, 'I was reminded of my sense of duty. Just as the Yamuna flows continuously here, it should appear the same throughout Delhi wherever the Yamuna passes, with even more water flowing in it.'
The event was one of several organised across Delhi as part of the nationwide 'Yoga Sangam' initiative.
In Thyagaraj Stadium, Minister Parvesh Verma led another well-attended yoga session. Minister Ashish Sood performed yoga at Chhatrasal Stadium, while the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar hosted a lively morning of 'asanas' and meditation.
At Qutub Minar, one of Delhi's most iconic heritage sites, a mass yoga demonstration drew a large and diverse crowd, further reflecting the day's theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health.'
These events formed part of the broader national celebration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Visakhapatnam, where more than one lakh locations across the country hosted synchronised yoga sessions involving over 2 crore people.
Now in its 11th year, International Day of Yoga has evolved into a global phenomenon. The day is observed across continents and cultures, and India continues to play a pivotal role in promoting mindfulness, discipline, and sustainable living through the practice of yoga.
The 2025 theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' has further emphasised the connection between personal well-being and planetary health, aligning with India's broader vision of global harmony through traditional wisdom.

HP govt to hike stipend of dentists pursuing MD: CM
Shimla: Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Friday that the state govt has hiked stipends, increasing the allowance for MD doctors from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh. "Similarly, stipends of super-speciality doctors and dental doctors pursuing MD will also be hiked," Sukhu said. Sukhu was presiding over the inter-college event 'Eruption-2025' at HP Government Dental College, Shimla, on Friday. Emphasising the importance of improving healthcare, he stated, "A patient's illness worsens without proper treatment, so ensuring timely and accurate care is essential." Equipment similar to that in AIIMS is being brought to the state medical colleges, and within three months, PET Scan and 3-Tesla MRI machines will be installed in the medical colleges of the state. Major transformations in healthcare will be visible within a year, emphasised Sukhu. Highlighting the need for financial prudence, the chief minister stated that while the previous BJP govt misused the state's resources, the current govt is committed to ensuring development by saving every penny.

East Godavari girl gets first Rs 10 lakh cheque under PM CARES Scheme
RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: The first Rs 10 lakh cheque in the country under the PM CARES Scheme has been presented to Prattipati Suma Mani of Dommeru village in East Godavari district, said BJP MP D Purandeswari. The MP took part in a programme organised by the Women and Child Welfare Department in the city on Friday to mark the occasion. Children who lost their parents due to Covid-19, attended the programme. The MP said the scheme is part of Mission Vatsalya, which aims to provide comprehensive support to the children in need. The Centre had selected 19 beneficiaries at the first instance under the PM CARES Scheme. The name of Suma Mani from East Godavari district figured first in the list, she said, hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the scheme to ensure the well-being of children. Suma Mani expressed her gratitude to the government for extending `10 lakh under the PM CARES Scheme. PM CARES beneficiary delighted Suma Mani said she lost her father in her childhood, and mother during the second wave of Covid-19. Suma Mani, who did nursing, and now married, has got a daughter. 'I will deposit `10 lakh in the name of my daughter,' she said. MLAs Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary and Adireddy Srinivas, MLC Somu Veerraju, District Collector P Prasanthi, ICDS Project Director Ch Srilakshmi and other officials were present.

Delhi BJP chief accuses ILBS of labour & PF law violations
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has written to Central Provident Fund Commissioner Ramesh Krishnamurti alleging serious violations of labour laws and provident fund regulations at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), an autonomous institution under the Delhi government. In a letter dated May 15, Sachdeva alleged that the employer's contribution towards provident fund (PF) at the super-speciality hospital for liver and biliary diseases is reportedly limited to only 8% of the employees' salaries, in contravention of the statutory requirement of 12%. He alleged that an equivalent amount is deducted from employees' salaries. When asked, ILBS Director Dr S K Sarin said, 'So far, I have not received any complaint from anyone.' Sarin further said that he will look into the details as soon as he receives any official intimation. In his letter, Sachdeva wrote, 'The specific issue relates to PF contributions being made by the institute, which, as per information received, are not in compliance with statutory requirements.' 'The salary figures submitted to the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) are shown to be lower than the actual amounts, thereby misrepresenting the contribution as compliant,' he added. This manipulation not only violates the Employees' Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, but also undermines the financial security of the employees, he further said. 'Moreover, it is alleged that these actions are taking place with the full knowledge and complicity of senior officials at the institute. Employees, most of whom are on contractual appointments, reportedly refrain from raising these issues formally due to fear of termination and other reprisals. I am also informed that these irregularities have been going on for a few years now and largely unchecked,' he said in his complaint. Despite attempts, Sachdeva could not be contacted for a response.
