Copper strategy: India eyes sixfold rise in demand by 2047; Centre unveils plan to expand refining capacity
Union minister G Kishan Reddy on Friday unveiled the government's Copper Vision Document, a blueprint aimed at preparing India's copper ecosystem to meet the expected surge in domestic demand over the next two decades. The roadmap projects that India's copper demand will rise sixfold by 2047 and sets a target of adding 5 million tonnes per annum of smelting and refining capacity by 2030. It also outlines a multipronged approach including ramping up secondary refining, improving domestic recycling systems, and securing access to overseas mineral resources through global partnerships, according to PTI. 'Copper plays a critical role in our energy transition, infrastructure expansion and adoption of green technologies like electric vehicles and solar energy,' said Reddy, who holds the coal and mines portfolio. He added that the document offers a strategic pathway to meet India's growing consumption needs while ensuring raw material security. The launch took place at the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices hosted by the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress in Hyderabad. The mines ministry said the document is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and marks a significant step toward building a sustainable, resilient and future-ready domestic copper industry. A.P. Finance Minister calls for real-time GST data access to all departments
State Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav on Friday underlined the need for real-time GST data access and coordination among various government departments, with the optimal use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to effectively check tax evasion cases. The Minister was addressing a virtual meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) formed by the Union government to review and simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant chaired the high-level committee. The panel discussion saw the participation of Finance ministers and deputy chief ministers from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh States. Minister Payyavula Keshav logged into the conference from the NIC Centre here. He presented Andhra Pradesh's AI-enabled GST tools and digital initiatives of the State government. Highlighting the use of automated verification systems capable of downloading 37 GST returns in seconds, Mr. Keshav stressed the effectiveness and wider impact of the 'Jnanakshetram' digital platform. 'This enables creating and storage of comprehensive GST data, best practices available with standard operating procedures for enforcement and compliance of existing norms of the GST regime,' he said.

He added that the proposed entertainment hub would create both direct and indirect employment and boost tourism.'The project will generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and bring major changes to the area. It will attract international tourists too,' Saini was chosen, Saini said, as it contributes the largest share to the state's revenue and hosts multiple Fortune 500 companies. Its proximity to transport corridors such as the KMP Expressway and Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor makes Manesar accessible to visitors across NCR.'The upcoming Global City project in Gurgaon will be another milestone for the region. Earlier this year, the Maharashtra government announced plans for a Disneyland-inspired park in Navi Mumbai, but without formal involvement from the animation had floated a similar proposal in 1989, when then CM Om Prakash Chautala proposed a Disneyland park in Gurgaon. The plan was later shelved following political opposition and land acquisition national president Abhay Singh Chautala on Thursday questioned the BJP's current support for the project.'BJP was supporting INLD govt in 1989 but it sided with Congress to oppose the project back then,' he said.
