Haryana could become home to India's first Disneyland-style amusement park, chief minister Nayab Singh Saini said on Wednesday, announcing that 500 acres of land had been identified near Pachgaon Chowk in Manesar for the proposed site.As per a Times of India report, the government is in talks with Disney officials, Saini said, following a meeting with Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi. He added that the proposed entertainment hub would create both direct and indirect employment and boost tourism.'The project will generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and bring major changes to the area. It will attract international tourists too,' Saini said.Gurgaon was chosen, Saini said, as it contributes the largest share to the state's revenue and hosts multiple Fortune 500 companies. Its proximity to transport corridors such as the KMP Expressway and Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor makes Manesar accessible to visitors across NCR.'The upcoming Global City project in Gurgaon will be another milestone for the region. Hence, Gurgaon is the most suitable location for Disneyland,' he said. The Global City project, a 1,000-acre township being planned across four sectors, will follow a walk-to-work model, with integrated facilities and transport links to the Delhi-Gurgaon and Dwarka expressways. The chief minister also announced plans to scale up the International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra and expand the Surajkund mela into a triennial event with a Diwali mela and a book fair.'Considering the popularity of the Surajkund Mela, the government is planning to organise a Diwali mela and a book fair at Surajkund as well… We have also sought support from the Union tourism ministry and the central govt to organise Gita Mahotsav on a grand scale,' he said.'Together, these projects will firmly establish Haryana as a tourism hub,' the CM added. If finalised, the Haryana Disneyland would be Disney's first direct collaboration in India. Earlier this year, the Maharashtra government announced plans for a Disneyland-inspired park in Navi Mumbai, but without formal involvement from the animation company.Haryana had floated a similar proposal in 1989, when then CM Om Prakash Chautala proposed a Disneyland park in Gurgaon. The plan was later shelved following political opposition and land acquisition concerns.INLD national president Abhay Singh Chautala on Thursday questioned the BJP's current support for the project.'BJP was supporting INLD govt in 1989 but it sided with Congress to oppose the project back then,' he said.

Chinmayi Supports Ranbir Kapoor's Casting In Ramayana Amid Backlash For Being 'Beef Eater'

Curated By : Last Updated: July 06, 2025, 08:28 IST Chinmay defends Ranbir Kapoor's casting in Ramayana. Singer Chinmayi Sripaada has come forward to defend Ranbir Kapoor amid growing online backlash over his casting as Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film Ramayana. The criticism erupted after the film's first glimpse, featuring Ranbir and Yash, was released recently. Soon after, a section of social media users began targeting Ranbir by resurfacing an old interview where he mentioned consuming beef. The trolls started questioning his suitability to portray a revered mythological figure. Responding to the outrage, Chinmayi called out the selective morality of such attacks and urged people to focus on real issues rather than personal choices from the past. Chinmayi slammed the hypocrisy and wrote without naming anyone, 'A babaji who uses the name of God can be a rapist and he can keep getting parole to get votes in bhakt India – however what someone eats is a big problem." Check out her post here: A babaji who uses the name of God can be a rapist and he can keep getting parole to get votes in bhakt India – however what someone eats is a big problem. Chinmayi Sripaada (@Chinmayi) July 4, 2025 When a user questioned her stance by asking, 'How one bad thing can justify another bad thing?", Chinmayi hit back sharply. She responded, 'Nice. So someone playing a ROLE is the same 'bad' as a rapist campaigning for votes amongst you. You deserve to have Ram Rahim as your local MP and visit your house personally." A wave of backlash had earlier erupted online after a section of social media users resurfaced an old interview in which Ranbir Kapoor admitted to consuming beef. This was in response to the recent reveal of his role as Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. One post on X (formerly Twitter) read, 'Beef eater will be playing the role of Bhagvan Ram now! 🤦 What's wrong with Bollywood?"—accompanied by images of Ranbir and Sai Pallavi from the film's set. Despite the online backlash, Ramayana, helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, remains one of the most highly anticipated Indian films. On July 3, India witnessed a groundbreaking rollout in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Kochi, simultaneously unveiled the first look of Ramayana: The Introduction. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Raavan, Ramayana is planned as a two-part film. The first part is set to release in theatres on Diwali 2026, followed by the second part on Diwali 2027. As per reports, the first instalment will end with the Sita Haran episode, though this hasn't been officially confirmed yet. Along with Ranbir, Sai, and Yash, Ramayana also features an impressive star cast. Sunny Deol will be seen as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey plays Laxman, Lara Dutta takes on the role of Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh will be seen as Surpanakha, and Kajal Aggarwal plays Mandodari. Dalai Lama's 90th birthday: From Kiren Rijiju to Richard Gere — Who attended celebrations at Tsuglagkhang temple?

The Dalai Lama's 90th birthday was marked by a massive celebration in the main courtyard of Tsuglagkhang, the Dalai Lama temple, on Sunday. From Tibetan Buddhist to students to Indian minister and Hollywood actors, many gathered on Sunday in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh to celebrate 90th birth anniversary of the 14th Dalai Lama. The birthday was attended by the representatives of various Tibetan Buddhist sects, school children, dancers and singers from different countries, and Buddhists from across the world, news agency AFP reported. A video shared by news agency ANI on X showed the presence of Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Sikkim minister Sonam Lama, and Hollywood actor Richard Gere during the 90th birthday celebrations of the 14th Dalai Lama. In his address during the ceremony, Hollywood actor and practising Buddhist, Richard Gere, said, "... We have never seen a human being like him who completely embodies selflessness, love, and wisdom...' 'At a religious conference following His Holiness' proclamation to continue the institution of the Dalai Lama, many lamas openly declared that the Dalai Lama no longer just belongs to Tibet, but to the world and the universe... His holiness exists beyond any concept of time and space,' Gere said. Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju praised the spiritual leader's global influence. He called him a "living bridge between ancient wisdom and the modern world," pledging to follow his decisions and traditions, honouring his presence in India. Rijiju said, "Your holiness, you are more than a spiritual leader. You are a living bridge between ancient wisdom and the modern world. We feel blessed by his presence in our country, which he regards as his 'aryabhoomi'." Former US presidents George W Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama sent their birthday wishes via video messages. Monks, devotees, and international guests gathered for the celebration to honour the life and teachings of the Dalai Lama, who is widely regarded as a global symbol of compassion, non-violence and interfaith harmony. The celebrations on Sunday are the culmination of days of long-life prayers for Tenzin Gyatso, who followers believe is the 14th reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, a man whose moral teachings and idiosyncratic humour have made him one of the world's most popular religious leaders. It all started with a song for the Dalai Lama performed by Switzerland-based Tibetan singer Jamyan Choeden. It was followed by a dance performance by a group of Mongolian and Albanian artists. The celebrations also included his key announcement that, after being inundated with messages of support from fellow Tibetans both inside and in exile, the spiritual institution will continue after his death. Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, is home to the Dalai Lama since he and thousands of other Tibetans fled Chinese troops who crushed an uprising in their capital Lhasa in 1959.
