"Ignore Baseless Allegations": Poll Body On Rahul Gandhi's Voter Fraud Claim
New Delhi: Pushing back against fresh allegations of "vote theft" made by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, the Election Commission of India has termed them "baseless". The Election Commission (EC) also said an email and a letter had been sent to Mr Gandhi in June, inviting him to meet and discuss the voter roll issue, but he had not responded. The Congress MP had, instead, made "wild allegations" and even threatened the EC and its staff, the poll panel said. Speaking to reporters about the Bihar Special Intensive Revision on Friday, the Congress leader had said the Commission was involved in the "vote theft" to benefit the BJP. "Votes are being stolen. We have open-and-shut proof that the Election Commission is involved in this vote theft. And I'm not saying this lightly, I'm speaking with 100% proof. And when we release it (proof), the entire country will come to know that the Election Commission is enabling vote theft. And who are they doing it for? They're doing it for the BJP," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Mr Gandhi said the Congress had investigated and found enough evidence to constitute an "atom bomb". "We had suspicion of voter theft, and we got into its granularity. Since the Election Commission was not helpful in the investigation, we did our own. It took six months and the things we found are an 'atom bomb' and when this atom bomb explodes, you won't see the Election Commission in the country," the Congress MP said. "Most importantly, whoever in the Elections Commission is involved in this exercise, right from top to bottom, we will not spare you. You are working against India, and this is no less than treason. Wherever you are, even if you are retired, we will find you," he added. 'Threats' In a statement later in the day, the Election Commission said it ignores such "baseless allegations", adding that they were being made on a daily basis. "Despite the daily threats being given, we ask all election officials to ignore such irresponsible statements and work in a fair and transparent manner," the panel said. It pointed out that the Congress leader had been invited to discuss the voter rolls issue, but had not even responded. "EC sends a mail to him 12 June 2025. He does not come. EC sends him a letter on 12 June 2025, he does not respond. He has never sent any letter to EC on any issue whatsoever. It is very strange that he is making wild allegations and has now even started threatening EC and its staff. Deplorable!" it said in the statement. "EC ignores such irresponsible statements and asks all its staff to continue working impartially and transparently," it added. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also objected to Mr Gandhi's claims and accused him of making "anti-India" remarks. "Rahul Gandhi is not a child. He is the Leader of the Opposition. Giving anti-national statements and disrupting Parliament is unacceptable," the Parliamentary Affairs minister said.

1 2 Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday said that the state govt will not allow the Andhra Pradesh to take even a drop of Telangana's deserving water share from the Godavari through the Banakacherla project. Addressing the media after his padayatra in the Andole assembly constituency, Mahesh Goud accused former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao of mortgaging the interests of Telangana to Andhra by allowing the neighbouring state to take up the Banakacherla project. "Is it not KCR and Harish whose signatures during the previous BRS govt allowed AP to take up the Banakacherla project? On the other hand, the Congress govt led by chief minister A Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy took up the issue with the Centre, Union Jal Shakti Ministry, central water commission, and Godavari River Management Board, and successfully stopped the AP from going ahead further with works on the Banakacherla project," he said. "The Congress govt has stopped the supply of coarse rice through fair price shops and is giving fine rice free of cost to all the poor in the state," he said. Meenakshi takes dig at RSS AICC in-charge of Telangana Meenakshi Natarajan said that while the Congress works for the welfare of the people, RSS does it with an ulterior motive. She called upon the party cadres to work to know the problems of the people and bring them to the notice of the govt for solutions. She was speaking at a party workers' meeting in Andole during the padayatra.

100 day's work: TMC, CPM & Cong mull contempt plea after Centre fails HC deadline
Kolkata: With the Calcutta High Court-mandated Aug 1 deadline to Centre to resume the 100 days' work programme in Bengal getting over on Friday, Trinamool, CPM and Congress spoke in one voice to target BJP for ignoring the state's poor. The parties indicated they would move court against Centre for contempt. On June 18, the HC had directed "prospective implementation" of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (MGNREGS), suspended in Bengal for close to three years, from Aug 1. Saying that the scheme could not be "put in cold storage for eternity", a bench led by the Chief Justice had allowed Centre to impose special conditions and restrictions to check the irregularities and for recovery of money misappropriated in the past. CPM has been protesting at block levels over the past month demanding restoration of 100 days' work and for non-payment of pending wages. "If 100 days' work is not restored following the court order, we will take it to the streets. We are also looking at taking legal recourse," CPM state secretary Md Salim said. Pradesh Congress president Subhankar Sarkar said: "Investigation into cases of corruption should be done. But that cannot be used as an excuse to deny the scheme that has a huge impact on rural livelihoods. If necessary, Congress will take legal recourse. The state govt, on the other hand, should come out with a white paper on the accounts of 100 days' work." Bengal BJP said there was lack of clarity in the high court's order. "The court, on the one hand, said that 100 days' work cannot be stopped. On the other hand, it has given a go-ahead to the investigation into allegations of corruption and agreed to Centre imposing conditions," state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said. "The CM met the PM with a delegation of parliamentarians. She said that the matter will be resolved through secretary-level meetings between Centre and state. The meetings never took place," Bhattacharya added.
