Fertiliser stocks up 30%, govt warns against hoarding
The Agriculture Department recently issued a stern warning to all fertiliser dealers and distributors, making it clear that hoarding, black marketing, diversion of fertilisers, or selling above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) would not be tolerated.
With the onset of the Kharif season, farmers rushed to nearby stores to purchase seeds and essential fertilisers, resulting in increased demand.
The Agriculture Department advised farmers to avoid panic buying and ignore baseless rumours of shortages, noting that fertiliser stocks in the state have increased by 30% this year compared to the previous Kharif season.
S Dilli Rao, director of the agriculture department, stressed that the state government is committed to ensuring fair and uninterrupted access to agricultural inputs, particularly in rural and interior areas. To support this, fertiliser companies, cooperative societies, MARKFED, Rythu Seva Kendras, and private retailers have been instructed to maintain adequate local stock and cooperate with field-level staff.

Special focus is also being placed on the availability of pesticides and micronutrients, which are equally critical for a healthy crop yield.
For July alone, 3.84 LMT (lakh metric tonnes) of fertilisers are scheduled for supply, including 1.30 LMT of urea. The Centre has already allocated the full Kharif requirement of 6.22 LMT of urea, of which 1.95 LMT has been received. Including opening stocks, 4.93 LMT is currently available—sufficient to meet demand through the end of August.
Taking note of irregularities in urea and seed sales, Dilli Rao warned that violators will face license cancellation and legal action under the Fertiliser Control Order (FCO) of 1985. He emphasised that distribution must strictly align with crop cultivation patterns and actual ground-level needs.

Ludhiana: In a bid to woo voters ahead of the Ludhiana West bypoll, the administration rolled out two special policies under the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) — one for settling long-pending non-construction fees and another one-time settlement (OTS) scheme for allottees who failed to pay instalments for their allotted properties. But despite the seemingly generous offer, the public response has been underwhelming. With just 20 days left before the July 31 deadline, the response remains muted — only 155 applications have come in under the non-construction fee (NCF) policy and 100 under the OTS scheme. Officials had hoped for a better turnout but blame poor recordkeeping and lack of awareness for the disinterest. The policies were notified on April 17, but LIT officials now pin their hopes on a last-minute rush, saying beneficiaries often tend to settle dues closer to the deadline. In 2016, a one-time settlement policy had been notified for six months, during which 372 applications were received — a higher response compared to the current policy, which was open for a shorter period. Sources revealed that LIT officials lack accurate data on the number of defaulters for non-construction fees (NCF) or pending instalments. This is largely because records are not maintained plot-wise. In some cases, localities developed by LIT were later transferred to the municipal corporation (MC), resulting in incomplete or lost records. Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) chairperson Tarsem Bhinder admitted that they received fewer applications for the two policies, however, he claimed that he has asked the concerned staff to start contacting the defaulters to reap the benefit of the schemes. He highlighted that the LIT had lesser staff to handle additional tasks. Under the one-time settlement policy for the Non-Construction Fee (NCF), a 50% discount is offered on the total amount due (principal + interest) to allottees of properties under LIT development schemes — whether less than or more than 15 years have passed since the allotment letter was issued. For cases older than 15 years, the NCF is fixed at 5% of the applicable reserve rate. Additionally, senior citizens, women, and legal heirs of Armed or Paramilitary Forces personnel killed in action are eligible for an extra 25% discount on the already reduced NCF amount. After getting an exemption from the govt under the One-Time Relaxation Policy on the NCF, the allottee will be bound to deposit the amount and construct his property by getting the plan approved by Dec 31. Similarly, under the one-time settlement for pending dues where allottees have made some kind of payment, this exemption is applicable only in those cases in which the allottees have deposited 1/4th part of the amount after the allotment of the concerned property. According to this, the allottees will be able to regularise their property by depositing the remaining amount at the applicable rate (at simple interest) and restoration charges at the rate of 2.5 percent at the reserve rate for the year 2025-26 as per the rules issued from time to time. Complete exemption was given on penalty/penal interest.

Rajasthan's Rs 243 crore project, meant to be a symbol of urban development, now stands as a monument to alleged administrative negligence and questionable construction practices. Judge Manmohan Chandel passed the order while treating a joint suit filed by two residents as a PIL. The court has directed both the Ajmer Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Ajmer Smart City Ltd (ASCL) to submit their responses by July 11. The suit was filed on July 5, after which court issued notices to the district collector, AMC and ASCL. None of the respondents appeared on July 8 leading to a subsequent hearing on July 9. The closure order came on Wednesday despite the corporation's assertion that it had blocked one of the four roads on the elevated stretch. Siddaramaiah meets Rajnath; seeks defence corridors, land transfer and IAF air show for Dasara
Bengaluru: A delegation led by chief minister Siddaramaiah , his deputy DK Shivakumar and some cabinet colleagues met Union defence minister Rajnath Singh Wednesday and sought central support for a wide range of proposals — from setting up two defence industrial corridors and securing defence land for major infrastructure work in Bengaluru, to hosting an Indian Air Force (IAF) air show during this year's Mysuru Dasara celebrations. In a letter to Singh, Siddaramaiah urged the Centre to establish a defence industrial corridor each in North and South Karnataka, like those announced in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in 2018. While requesting "similar support", Siddaramaiah, citing the state's strong aerospace base, wrote: "The proposed corridors will leverage this existing ecosystem and infrastructure, further cementing Karnataka's reputation as the defence capital of India."
