CAIRO - 5 April 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, received Sylvestre Radegonde, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Seychelles, on Saturday.
During the meeting, Minister Abdel Aty emphasized the depth of the historical relations between Egypt and Seychelles, and their aspiration to enhance cooperation in various fields to achieve mutual benefit.
He pointed to the promising opportunities for enhancing economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, particularly through increasing Egyptian exports to Seychelles, within the framework of both countries' membership in the COMESA bloc, as well as facilitating access to Egyptian medicines to the Seychelles market, given the preferential treatment Egyptian medicines enjoy on the African continent in terms of quality and competitive prices.
The two ministers emphasized their shared commitment to ensuring that this visit yields tangible results that strengthen bilateral cooperation. They expressed their aspiration to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector, the backbone of the Seychelles economy.
Minister Abdel Aty expressed Egypt's readiness to exchange expertise and increase Egyptian investments in the hotel and tourist resort sector in Seychelles, building on Egypt's successful experiences in this field in other African countries, in addition to increasing exports of Egyptian products related to hotel equipment.
Minister Abdel Aty also emphasized Egypt's keenness to enhance the Seychelles' access to training courses organized by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development to build capacity, in line with Seychelles' plans to develop its vital tourism sector and diversify its economy.
The meeting witnessed a convergence of views on a number of regional developments and issues of concern to the African continent. The two ministers emphasized the importance of achieving stability in international shipping lanes, especially in light of Seychelles' strategic location on the eastern coast of Africa, near the Horn of Africa.
They also discussed the repercussions of the war in Gaza and its spread to other regions in the Middle East. Minister Abdel Aty emphasized the need to halt the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and return to the ceasefire agreement, as well as the importance of supporting the Arab and Islamic plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip.
