The Hardy Boyz have opened up about their recent run with AEW. In a new interview with Ariel Helwani, Jeff Hardy took full responsibility for the team's run not meeting expectations.
Jeff cited his personal issues and legal troubles as the main reason for their struggles. He believes those problems prevented them from getting a fair chance in the company.
Jeff Hardy Takes The Blame
Jeff Hardy was candid about his time in AEW. He feels he never had a chance to redeem himself after his arrest.
"I just don't think we ever had a fair chance because of that," Jeff said. "So I blame myself all the time."
He stated he understood why AEW might not have wanted to trust him. "I was, 'Oh, God, they can't trust me. I'm just a liability,'" he explained.
Matt Hardy On Missed Opportunities
Matt Hardy gave his perspective on the situation. He felt that his brother did a good job of proving himself after he returned.
Matt also expressed disappointment that AEW didn't capitalize on having all four "TLC legends" (himself, Jeff, Adam Copeland, and Christian Cage) in the company at the same time.

"There's just so much value in the four of us together because of our history," Matt said. "But, yeah, it didn't happen."
He spoke highly of Tony Khan as a person and a boss. However, he noted that Khan has a specific "style and choice of wrestling that he likes to see."

The Hardy Boyz have had multiple, impactful runs in TNA Wrestling. Jeff Hardy found major singles success, becoming a three-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Matt Hardy famously reinvented himself with his "Broken" character, a creative phenomenon that took the wrestling world by storm and led to cinematic matches like "The Final Deletion." Together, they also captured the TNA World Tag Team Championship on three separate occasions, most recently in 2024.
Years later, they reunited in AEW in 2022, immediately entering a dream feud with The Young Bucks, whom they defeated at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
However, their AEW run was quickly derailed by Jeff's legal issues and subsequent suspension, from which they never fully recovered their momentum. Despite the initial excitement, their time in AEW was marked by inconsistent booking and injuries before both departed the company.
