Aggie MacKenzie on 'awful' backstage scuffle with Kim Woodburn that started feud

Metro19-06-2025
The late Kim Woodburn's How Clean Is Your House? co-star Aggie MacKenzie has spoken about the reason behind the feud between the pair.
Woodburn died earlier this week aged 83, following a short illness, and MacKenzie, 69, subsequently paid tribute to her former co-star.
'Kim was a tormented soul, but now she's finally at peace. We clashed often,' the statement provided to Metro read.
'Behind the fierce persona was deep pain and incredible strength. She survived because she had to. I hope she's resting now. She was an unforgettable woman.'
The co-stars garnered national fame for their innovative Channel 4 cleaning show, How Clean Is Your House? which ran from 2003 to 2009 – but were beset by long-standing feud rumours since professionally parting ways over 16 years ago.
After the grime-fighting reality show came to end, both hinted in various interviews that all was not well behind the scenes.
MacKenzie has now spoken about the reason behind their feud, saying it dates back to an angry altercation with Woodburn that drove a professional wedge between the pair.
The now-yoga teacher told The Mirror about a fallout behind the scenes of a Cinderella pantomime in Brighton back in January 2008 – in which the dirt-busting duo played the Ugly Stepsisters – that effectively ended their professional relationship.
MacKenzie recalled Woodburn missing her cue in the theatre, so she tapped her on the shoulder to remind her and then they went on for their scene – yet when they came off stage MacKenzie said Woodburn was 'furious'.
She told the publication: 'She pushed me. She actually pushed me so hard that I fell over. I lost it then. I really really lost it with her.
'The whole thing kind of blew up then. She went off to her dressing room and she was crying her eyes out. She was really upset and I was really upset – I was so furious.'
The interval was extended until Woodburn finally agreed to go back on stage, MacKenzie said.
'It was awful,' she continued. 'After all of that I was just done. It felt like she had kind of crushed me. The disrespect was so much and I knew that I couldn't actually continue being civil anymore without an apology.' More Trending
MacKenzie went on to say she had never received an apology from Woodburn, adding: 'I don't think that Kim knew how to apologise to anyone.
'She was a very complex person. Essentially, she probably had no confidence, she probably deep down hated herself, and so in order to survive she had to put on a big front to keep herself protected and to keep people away.
'If she apologised to me, that would be showing weakness in her eyes. So no, I never got an apology from her.'
Metro has contacted Kim Woodburn's estate for comment.

There's horror in the village as two youngsters are rushed to A&E after a collapse behind the wheel in Emmerdale. Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) is desperate to look her best at her engagement do and her quest for the perfect bod will put both her and Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) lives in danger. Gabby's car isn't working so kind-hearted fiancé Vinny (Bradley Johnson) takes it for fixing at the garage while Gabby is busy prepping for their upcoming engagement shindig – she's on a crash diet to fit in a dress she accidentally ordered in the wrong size. By crash diet this means Gabby is eating absolutely nothing and drinking buckets of coffee in the hopes of flushing out her system and dropping that dress size. 'She's drinking a hell of a lot of coffee as per Bradley Riches' character, Lewis, he recommends coffee to kind of get things moving,' actress Rosie Bentham tells Metro. 'So she's drinking a hell of a lot of coffee, doing lots and lots of exercise. Filling her time with that and neglecting any mothering duties she's got and just putting exercise to the front of her mind.' It's a dangerous game that will come back to bite her – and Sarah. When she learns her car still isn't ready because Kammy hasn't bothered to fix it, the hanger hits. Having necked her coffee, she sets about getting the car fixed herself. More Trending Sarah offers to take her for a diagnostic drive, not realising she's putting her life in an increasingly weakening Gabby's hands. Coronation Street legend tells shocking cancer lie as his colleague reels

Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) has had a tough time of it recently on Coronation Street as he's been going through gruelling treatment following a cancer diagnosis at the start of the year. Chemotherapy sessions have left him weak and tired, and he's also had the emotional stress of learning about his sister's Debbie (Sue Devaney)'s own diagnosis of dementia. Luckily our Kev has the support of his loyal wife Abi (Sally Carman) and his loving brother Carl (Jonathan Howard). But recently Kevin has found out that Carl is harbouring romantic feelings for Abi – and that she's trying her best to deny that she feels the same. Kevin recently rumbled what was going on after he saw a message from Carl on Abi's phone saying he'd like to get to know her better. Abi subsequently warned Carl off and then told Kevin that Carl was responsible for some sloppy workmanship in the garage. When Kevin saw on CCTV that Abi had tampered with the car Carl was working on, he accused them of having an affair. Abi denied it, but said she was annoyed by Carl's texts, laying all the blame on him. But then Kevin saw Abi hugging his brother after she told him she felt bad for lying to Kevin – and obviously that set him thinking. In upcoming episodes, Kevin heads to a hospital appointment to find out whether his cancer treatment has been successful. Nervously, he goes into the consultant's office, braced for whatever news might come next. Meanwhile, Abi is angry when she gets back from a callout to find Carl in the garage with his feet up. He reiterates that he can't stop thinking about her and he's convinced she feels the same, but she insists that it's Kevin she loves and she's happy with her life. Back in the Street, Kevin tells Carl that he's been given the all-clear and the cancer has gone. However, this is not what he's told Abi. She tells Carl that Kevin has told her he's going to need another round of chemo. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? When Kevin strains his groin playing football with Jack (Kyran Bowes), Abi is concerned and tells him he needs to tell his family the truth. He tells Debbie and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) that, unfortunately, the cancer didn't respond to the treatment he's had so far and he needs to have more chemo. More Trending It's not long before he has a change of heart, and explains to Tyrone that his previous account was a lie. The chemo has worked and he's now cancer-free. Tyrone is obviously stunned that Kevin would do something as shocking and hurtful as telling his family that he's still seriously unwell. View More » What's Kevin up to? 'Addictive' TV thriller is finally completely free to binge on UK streamer

A 'riveting and addictive' legal thriller is streaming for free right now (Picture: Disney General Entertainment Con) A legal drama thriller from legendary producer Shonda Rhimes is now available to binge in full for free. First hitting screens in 2014, How to Get Away with Murder was produced by Rhimes, best known for working on other shows including Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Bridgerton and The Residence. The show – which ran for six seasons before ending in 2020 – followed Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), a defence attorney and law professor at a prestigious university in Philadelphia who becomes entangled in a murder plot with five of her students. The cast also included Alfred Enoch, Jack Falahee, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, and Karla Souza as Annalise's students, while Charlie Weber and Liza Weil played her employees. Last year fans of the series were left devastated when it was removed from Netflix, with one declaring it was being 'snatched away' from them. But now, nearly eight months later, it's available again for UK viewers. Even better – it's also streaming for free on Channel 4. How to Get Away with Murder ran from 2014 until 2020 and starred Viola Davis (Picture: Disney General Entertainment Con) How to Get Away with Murder boasts an impressive 88% rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes. When reviewing the first season, the Associated Press wrote: 'Murder promises to be twisty, wicked, dark and fun. And it stars Viola Davis, who brings life to a character of endless calculations and mystery.' 'The most addictive new thriller on TV,' Entertainment Weekly declared. 'Smart, slick and sexy, How to Get Away with Murder might be your new obsession,' the Boston Herald added. It also picked up many fans as soon as it started, with some calling it 'riveting', 'addictive' and 'captivating'. It followed a legal professor who got wrapped up in a murder plot with her students (Picture: Disney General Entertainment Con) Many also praised Viola's 'magnetic presence'. 'Viola Davis is a powerful screen presence — almost too strong for TV. But she commands the small screen like few actors can,' the Baltimore Sun explained. The actress, who went on to also find success starring in The Help and Fences and Suicide Squad, received widespread critical acclaim for her performance in the series. She became the first Black woman to win a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series, won two Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series, and was nominated for Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards. Viola's performance was called 'magnetic' (Picture: Lionel Hahn/ Getty Images) She previously spoke to Shondaland about how starring in How to Get Away with Murder marked a turning point in her career. 'I see Annalise as that point in my career where something switched. And what it did was wake me up to the value of using myself. And what I mean by that is that it changed the way people saw a Black woman,' she said. 'Every role that I got before this time, not that I wasn't extremely happy with those roles, and that's including the roles I had onstage, but they very much were roles that you could see me in. 'How to Get Away with Murder was thinking outside of the box. This was my way of subverting that narrative or that reality that we have of what a leading lady should look like, their sexuality should look like, womanhood should look like. It was my opportunity to just turn that on its head, and I had to because I was in the role. So, I could either play it like people expected me to play it, or I could really use myself and use what I know about life, and what I know womanhood to be, and sexuality to be, and Blackness to be — it was my way to just sort of inject my voice and my artistry.' How to Get Away with Murder is streaming on Channel 4. Got a story?
