Pope Leo XIV Blesses Commanders Rival Ahead Of 2025 Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Last year in the playoffs, the Detroit Lions needed all the help they could get against the upstart Washington Commanders, who buzz-sawed coach Dan Campbell's favored team in a 45-31 shellacking.

The Lions are coming back into 2025 with some extra juice, though, as they figure to once again join Washington as a Super Bowl contender.
The Lions have The Vatican on their side.
Pope Leo XIV - seriously - has blessed an NFL player ahead of the 2025 regular season.
And really ... playfully ... Washington fans shouldn't be as upset about this as Chicago Bears fans surely are.
The first-ever American pope just happens to be from Chicago ... and has long been well-known for his fandom of the Bears and the White Sox and all things Windy City.
As it happens, Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta and his new bride, Callahan Dellinger LaPorta, scheduled a vacation in Rome ...

And yes, they got blessed by the Pope, as the young NFL tight end demonstrated for all to see as took to Instagram to show off the photo on Wednesday.
"Thank you to a very busy man for blessing me and my bride. A special moment we'll never forget,'' he wrote.
Bears fans can be mock-unhappy about this ... but Chicago has spent a great deal of time in the NFC North basement and doesn't figure to be a match for the powerful Lions anyway.
And the Commanders? As they and the Lions prepare to give chase to upsetting defending champion Philadelphia toward a Super Bowl run, they'll take any "blessing'' they can get.

Perhaps Dan Quinn should book himself a quick trip to The Vatican?

Tom Brady, Sydney Sweeney Get Friendly at Jeff Bezos' Wedding in Venice: Report

Tom Brady, Sydney Sweeney Get Friendly at Jeff Bezos' Wedding in Venice: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former superstar NFL quarterback and Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady has been single for a while now, and he is apparently enjoying his no-strings-attached relationship status at the celebrity wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his new wife Lauren Sanchez in Venice. TMZ reported on Friday, June 27, that Brady is in attendance and has been "chatting up" Hollywood leading lady Sydney Sweeney -- one of the biggest movie stars in the world who also happens to be 20 years Brady's junior. We've learned the most hopping place in the Floating City is The Gritti Palace, a landmark waterfront hotel where a collection of Jeff and Lauren's most famous friends are staying -- and it's the place to be for wedding guests looking to party. Sources who are there tell us Tom [Brady], Leo [DiCaprio], Orlando [Bloom], Sydney [Sweeney], Jerry Seinfeld, Charissa Thompson and the Kardashians are all staying at the Gritti, and [Sweeney] is the 'center of attention' for single guys, including [Brady]. We're told the gang's been hanging at the hotel bar, partying and dancing, and [Brady] is taking center stage as the life of the party -- even spending some time chatting up [Sweeney]. TMZ's report didn't include any further details about the interactions between Brady, 47, and Sweeney, 27, other than to say the following: "While the Gritti is crawling with hot ladies, we're told this has become more about the guys bonding with each other than trying to hook up with women," TMZ story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 28, 2025, where it first appeared.

Former NFL RB LeSean McCoy rips Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger for lack of success

Earlier in the week, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger offered up an interesting comparison between quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes. Roethlisberger said that prime Aaron Rodgers was better than current Patrick Mahomes is. Not the most controversial opinion but it definitely got former NFL running back LeSean McCoy stirred up. McCoy decided to vent about Roethlisberger and his hot take on the FS1 show, The Facility. According to McCoy, "Big Ben hates." McCoy noted that in 18 NFL seasons, Roethlisberger was never named an All-Pro and was never once in his career considered the best or even second-best quarterback in the NFL. Both of these are fair points. Roethlisberger was never a big statistical quarterback in his career. He only led the NFL in passing yards twice, and unfortunately, when you shared the league with guys like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees, among others, you couldn't get much traction from the national media when your team wins but you don't put up huge numbers. But what Roethlisberger did was win. And elevate the play of his teammates. Roethlisberger was 165-81-1 as a starter in 18 years and led the Steelers to two Super Bowl championships. McCoy also has two Super Bowl titles, both late in his career when he was largely a backup and just moving from team to team. If I want an opinion on a quarterback, I'm taking Roethlisberger over McCoy every time.
