Kyle MacLachlan Is Open To Reprising ‘Desperate Housewives' Role: 'That'd Be Fun'
The Desperate Housewives alum recently said he would potentially reprise his role as deadbeat husband Orson Hodge or 'something completely new' in a reboot of the Marc Cherry comedy-drama, which ran for eight seasons on ABC from 2004 to 2012.

'That'd be fun,' MacLachlan told People. 'I mean, Wisteria Lane still exists on the Universal back lot. It's part of the tour!'
MacLachlan debuted as Bree's (Marcia Cross) love interest and eventual second husband Orson toward the end of Season 2 in 2006, becoming a key character in Season 3 regarding the mystery of his first wife's disappearance.
'If for Desperate Housewives, if that were to come back — […] and if they would even want me to come back — I'd have to look at the role and kind of get a sense of what they're thinking about for the character,' he explained.
'So I would approach it like if it were something completely new and weigh how I feel about the role, and the character, and the process and everything, you know?' added MacLachlan. 'I would treat it like it were, you know, something else [new] that had come to me and make my judgment on that.'
The Golden Globe winner, who recently passed on reprising his Sex and the City role, explained that he also approached his 2017 return to Twin Peaks as Dale Cooper with a similar method after creator David Lynch 'decided to not really pick it up from where we left off and to create a completely different journey for the character. And I got to do a couple [of] different characters in the reboot.'
Following Deadline's exclusive report, Kerry Washington confirmed in May that her Onyx Collective offshoot Wisteria Lane is in development, 'inspired' by Desperate Housewives.
Written by Natalie Chaidez, Wisteria Lane is described as a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery in the vein of Desperate Housewives, set among a group of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul de sac called Wisteria Lane. On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream: beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway. But behind those white picket fences and smiling Insta posts are secrets.
Desperate Housewives starred Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Nicollette Sheridan as five women — mostly friends — living on Wisteria Lane, who begin uncovering dark secrets after their neighbor Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) kills herself.

It's also got Chromecast built-in so you can cast to it from an Android phone (I was able to cast the Spectrum TV app to it from my iPhone 16 Pro but had to fiddle around with the settings in my Google Home app to get it to work). And finally, it has an integrated battery that delivers up to 3 hours of battery life in energy-saving mode (the battery life seemed closer to 2 hours in my tests). However, when you start streaming, the picture does appear to be 1080p. You just aren't going to get inky blacks. But it is a matte screen that cuts down on the glare and has a relatively wide viewing angle. The TV is designed to be taken outdoors, though it has no water resistance rating, so you wouldn't want to leave it out in the rain. Skyworth also sells a carrying case for it, which is also currently on sale for $50. Is this a better option than a portable monitor? In some ways, yes. First off, this is bigger than most portable monitors, and to reiterate, the key feature here is the integrated battery (alas, it doesn't appear to be replaceable), so you can view the TV wherever you want (for 2 to 3 hours anyway). I used it on my home Wi-Fi but also connected the TV to my phone's hot spot when I was outside, and it worked fine streaming content. True, it's significantly more expensive than many portable monitors, but the use case for a portable monitor tends to be different. Max Will Change Back to HBO Max on Wednesday
Warner Bros. Discovery has settled on a date to reskin the Max streamer back to HBO Max: Early this Wednesday morning, according to streamer insiders. The flip won't happen simultaneously, but customers will see 'HBO Max' on the apps that formerly said 'Max' across the streamer's territories on July 9. The switch had been anticipated to take place sometime this summer, but Warner Bros. Discovery hadn't revealed an exact day for the reversal until now. The timing is key: Execs wanted to restore the 'HBO Max' name prior to next week's Emmy nominations announcement on July 15. Discovery's upfronts presentation. At the time, WBD said in a press release that 'returning the HBO brand into HBO Max will further drive the service forward and amplify the uniqueness that subscribers can expect from the offering. It is also a testament to WBD's willingness to keep boldly iterating its strategy and approach — leaning heavily on consumer data and insights — to best position itself for success.' Later, at the WBD upfront, Warner Bros. Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav added, 'The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming. Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.' The streamer launched as HBO Max in 2020, but then WBD opted to excise HBO from the streamer's name in 2023, changing it to just 'Max.' Comparing the name change to Donald Trump's decision to rebrand the Gulf of Mexico as the 'Gulf of America,' Oliver said on his show: 'Sometimes, hypothetically, before we can get used to one dumb name' — here the HBO Go logo appeared on the screen — 'some genius comes along and only makes it dumber' (HBO Now). 'Then, somehow it gets dumber still' (HBO Max) 'and against all the odds it becomes even worse' (Max) 'before inexplicably going back to the stupid thing it was before' (HBO Max).
