New on Peacock in August 2025 — all the movies and shows to watch
We're right in the middle of summer, and Peacock is keeping things hot with a packed August lineup, though technically, some of these titles fall under July's slate. Case in point: 'The Phoenician Scheme' landed at the very end of July, but its streaming release was announced so late it's effectively part of August's hype. Starring Benicio del Toro, the thriller kicks off a month full of high-stakes drama and espionage. August also brings the debut of 'Borderline,' a dark comedic stalker thriller starring Samara Weaving as a pop star in peril. For reality fans, the 'Love Island USA' season 7 reunion drops on August 25, promising to spill all the behind-the-scenes tea from the summer of love, heartbreak and Casa Amor chaos. Meanwhile, 'Twisted Metal' season 2 continues through August with more demolition derby madness. New episodes each week build toward a climactic finale at the end of the month. Whether you're in the mood for romance, thrills, or complete carnage, Peacock's August lineup has something for every kind of viewer. 'The Phoenician Scheme' is a typical Wes Anderson joint that follows ruthless tycoon Anatole 'Zsa-zsa' Korda (Benicio del Toro) after he survives his sixth assassination attempt. Determined to protect his crumbling empire and a wildly ambitious infrastructure project, Korda names his estranged daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton), a nun-in-training, as his heir. Joined by her socially awkward tutor Bjorn (Michael Cera), the trio embarks on a surreal, globe-trotting mission to secure support for Korda's 'Phoenician Scheme.' Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Along the way, they encounter eccentric investors and dignitaries played by a star-studded cast including Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Riz Ahmed and Bryan Cranston. Stream on Peacock now 'Borderline' is a funny psychological thriller starring Samara Weaving as Dea, a former pop sensation trying to live a quiet, reclusive life in a remote desert home. Her fragile peace is shattered when a dangerously delusional fan, played by Ray Nicholson, breaks in with a twisted plan: to force Dea into marrying him. Initially a tense hostage situation, the story quickly twists into something far more unusual, with captor and captive roles overlapping. Written and directed by 'Cocaine Bear' scribe Jimmy Warden, the movie is an absolute ride. If you're into unhinged thrills and laugh-out-loud moments, it's definitely worth watching. By the time the wedding scene rolls around near the end, your stomach will probably hurt from laughing. Stream on Peacock starting August 1 Hosted by Ariana Madix, now joined by reunion master Andy Cohen, the 'Love Island USA' season 7 special brings back this summer's standout Islanders for two hours of reflection, drama, and reconciliation Filmed in New York City, the reunion reunites season 7's winners, fan-favorite couples, and bombshells for an unfiltered look at life beyond the Villa. Expect candid conversations about what went down in Fiji, behind-the-scenes tensions (including fallout from the Yulissa and Cierra scandal) and updates on which connections are still going strong. This special episode is perfect for fans who want to relive the madness and find closure on all those cliffhangers. Moment Dachshund Spots Owner While in the Groomers—'Is That You?'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A dog's wholesome reaction after spotting his owner at the groomers has melted hearts on TikTok, racking up more than 50,000 views. "It was his first time experience with a groomer," the owner told Newsweek, which may explain why the dog couldn't take his eyes off his mom and seemed eager to head home. TikTok users were quick to react to the video, shared by @yoshi_yukio on July 19, which was captioned: "Is that you, mom?" "It's like when a kid sees their parents at their play," wrote one viewer. The owner replied, "He is really acting like that." Two screenshots from the viral video showing the dog getting his hair dried and then a close up of his face. TikTok/@yoshi_yukio "His whole face lit up," another person observed, while a third added, "Showing up does matter." While the video provided a touching glimpse into the bond between pets and their owners, it also raised awareness about the grooming experience for dogs—especially first-timers. The average cost of dog grooming in the U.S. is around $85, with prices varying based on a dog's breed and size, according to a services marketplace. The American Kennel Club (AKC) emphasizes that grooming is essential for all dogs, regardless of how much they shed. Regular brushing and maintenance not only improve coat health but also help identify skin conditions early. However, how often a dog needs grooming depends largely on its coat type. For owners looking to cut down on grooming expenses, DIY grooming is an increasingly popular alternative. But experts warn that preparation and proper technique are key to ensuring a safe and stress-free experience for both pets and their humans. Dr. Jerry Klein, chief veterinary officer at the AKC, previously told Newsweek that knowing how often to bathe a dog can be tricky. "How often to wash a dog? In a nutshell, most dogs can get by being washed about once a month," he said. "But it's not as easy as it seems—it also depends on the individual dog's breed, the length and type of hair, and their lifestyle, whether they play in muddy lakes or are show dogs, for example." Klein said that how you wash a dog matters just as much as how often: "I always advise my clients to use less shampoo—consider diluting it—and rinse, rinse, and then rinse again!" To help novice groomers avoid common mistakes, Newsweek previously spoke to professionals who shared a few essential tips: Get hands-on training : Without proper instruction, it's easy to cause nicks and cuts, which can be painful and lead to infections. Hands-on training can help build confidence and ensure safety. : Without proper instruction, it's easy to cause nicks and cuts, which can be painful and lead to infections. 90-Year-Old Gran Enters Dance Floor at Party—She Quickly Steals the Show
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A 90-year-old has stolen the internet's heart after a dance comeback at her granddaughter's 18th birthday "debut." The family celebration transformed into an unforgettable spectacle when the spry grandmother, affectionately known as Mama Ging, surprised guests with an impromptu dance performance that quickly gained traction on TikTok. The moment highlighted her enduring love for dance and ability to command a stage—no matter her age. Rosie Alejandrino, 29, spoke to Newsweek about the video she shared, and explained that the event was the "debut" of her cousin, Angela Gabrielle—an 18th birthday tradition in Filipino culture similar to a Quinceanera. Photos from Rosie Alejandrino's TikTok video of her grandmother dancing during her cousin, Angela Gabrielle's 18th birthday debut. Photos from Rosie Alejandrino's TikTok video of her grandmother dancing during her cousin, Angela Gabrielle's 18th birthday debut. @yesrosemarie/TikTok Alejandrino, seen in a floral dress behind her cousin in a large pink gown, was thrilled by her grandmother's unexpected turn in the spotlight. Mama Ging has been a dancer her entire life, Alejandrino said. Her passion for dance is deeply woven into her family's history. "Dance actually plays a huge role in how my family came to be," she said. "Mama Ging was recruited to compete as part of the Philippines' Far Eastern University Folkdance Group in the 1950s, where she met my grandfather, our Papa Mike." Both Mama Ging and Papa Mike went on to teach dance and physical education at the same university where they met, raising their children, including Alejandrino's mother, nearby. The idea for Mama Ging's surprise performance came together just before the celebration. "It's a custom at Philippine debuts for the debutant to perform some sort of dance alongside her friends or family, so we stayed up all night before her party putting together a quick dance routine to surprise her guests," Alejandrino said. "My grandma kept chiming in with her ideas for choreography and ways to improve the performance, so we decided that it would be a fun surprise to have her be the grand finale." The moment Mama Ging took the floor, the reaction from the guests was electric. "So many of the guests erupted in cheers when Mama Ging got up from her seat, and they only cheered louder when she started dancing," Alejandrino said. Initially, the family had only asked her to dance for an eight-count so she wouldn't get too tired, but Mama Ging had other plans. She surprised everyone by going "full-out" for the rest of the song. Alejandrino shares a very close relationship with her grandmother. Mama Ging and Papa Mike lived with her family since she was about five years old, and Mama Ging has continued to live with her parents since Papa Mike's passing. This deep connection makes the shared experience of the moment even more special. For Alejandrino, her grandmother is a profound source of inspiration even beyond her dance moves. "If this video is proof of anything, she's definitely taught me that you are never too old to let loose and have some fun," Alejandrino said. "She really inspires me to take my health seriously and stay strong as I get older."
