Want to take break from contesting elections says Union minister Jual Oram
Oram, who is a member of the Narendra Modi council of ministers, made this announcement while attending a 'Nijukti Mela' (job fair) function at Sambalpur.
The minister said that he would not run for either MP or MLA positions in the future.
"I had already made it clear during the last elections that I would not contest for Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha seats again. The time has come to vacate the berth for the younger generation. I have already contested for direct elections 10 times," Oram told reporters after the meeting.
A six-time MP and two-time MLA, Oram, however, said that he would serve the party and may not hesitate to become a Rajya Sabha MP or the governor of any state, but is not interested in direct elections.
"I will do BJP work and will carry out whatever responsibility the party assigns to me," he said.
Asked whether he would contest if the party asks for it, Oram said, "I have no option. I have to follow the party's direction.
Oram has served in the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi.
He was the first minister of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) created by Vajpayee.

PM Modi highlights govt's focus on generating jobs
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday emphasised his government's focus on generating employment in the public and private sectors, asserting that the country has progressed in every field in the past 11 years. In a virtual address after the distribution of over 51,000 appointment letters, he said his government's welfare schemes, be it building over 4 crore houses for the poor, distributing over 10 crore new LPG connections or the rooftop solar programme, have created lakhs of new employment opportunities. Noting that over 25 crore people were lifted out of poverty in the past 10 years, the prime minister said it would not have happened but for the employment and sources of income generated for them. These poor people used to have a difficult living and feared death but became so strong that they defeated poverty, he added. Modi said his government's focus on boosting manufacturing has paid off, saying electronic manufacturing has risen over five times in 11 years and mobile manufacturing units number nearly 300 from two to four earlier. Defence manufacturing is being discussed proudly after Operation Sindoor, he said in an apparent reference to India's indigenous military capability shown during the conflict with Pakistan.

PM exhorts new recruits to contribute to nation building
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the new recruits for various Central government organisations, to consider their job as a golden opportunity to serve the citizens, irrespective of the position, department or place of posting. The Prime Minister addressed 51,000 new recruits at the 16th Rozgar Mela, organised simultaneously at 47 locations across the country, in virtual mode on Saturday. In Visakhapatnam, the programme was organised at the Sagarmala Conventions of Visakhapatnam Port Authority. 'Irrespective of your post and department, you should strive to live up to the expectations of the citizens by attending to their needs,' Mr. Modi told the recruits and congratulated them. He spoke at length on the welfare schemes launched by the Central government, which were intended to generate indirect employment in various sectors apart from safeguarding the interests of the beneficiaries for whom they were meant. Earlier in the day, Union Minister of Civil Aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu, who participated in the Rozgar Mela from Visakhapatnam, urged the new recruits for the Railways, India Post, and other Central government organisations to work with dedication and commitment. He called upon the 52 recruits from Visakhapatnam to work with dedication in the roles assigned to them. 'Getting a government job should not be the end goal. One should aim to go higher. You should also contribute to the growth of the nation, thereby contributing to the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat,' Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu. Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju and Divisional Railway Manager (Waltair) Lalit Bohra also spoke. Later, the Union Minister and other dignitaries handed over the appointment letters to the new recruits in Visakhapatnam.
