Texas A&M 2026 prospects named as top high school football commits of June

USA Today20 hours ago
The month of June was a massive one for Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, as he landed commitments from multiple top-ranked prospects in the 2026 class.
This month alone, the Aggies have landed two five-star and three four-star recruits that have moved the program up to No. 4 in 247 Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. That recruiting success is a testament to the incredible job Elko and company have done by making these athletes feel at home in the Maroon and White.
Following On3 Sports' acquisition of Rivals, the site named the top high school commitments of June. The list included the likes of two Texas A&M recruits, both of whom rank in the top 50 players in the country.
Brandon Arrington and KJ Edwards are two of the most highly-touted recruits that the Aggies have landed from the class of 2026. Both are ranked as the No. 2 players in the country at their position, according to 247 Sports Player Rankings, and will provide the program with electric speed and tenacity on the gridiron when they arrive in College Station next year.
Arrington is a five-star defensive back prospect from Columbus, Ga., who has all the intangibles to succeed at the next level. The top-ranked athlete prospect in the nation chose Texas A&M over schools like Penn State, Washington, Alabama and Oregon, as he made it known that Aggieland would be his new home.
"The relationship goes back to day one, for real," he said per ESPN. "They've been locked in with me, recruiting me hard from the very start. The environment feels like home. The people care about football here."
Ranked at No. 9 on the list from Rivals is Edwards, who announced his commitment to the Aggies on June 17. The Carthage, Texas, native's tape speaks for itself, as the ferocious running back has displayed an innate ability to maneuver through defenders and break tackles with incredible speed. Those attributes will make him an outstanding asset to Elko's offense in 2026.
During his junior season, Edwards rushed for 1,798 yards and 23 touchdowns, while also hauling in 383 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air. He makes everything he does on the gridiron look easy, as he uses his quickness and shiftiness to dominate on the ground. His elite footwork and ability to get to the second level quickly are attributes that will be detrimental to have against competition in the Southeastern Conference.
Needless to say, Elko hit a grand slam by landing Arrington and Edwards in June. Texas A&M's overall ranking for the 2026 class was boosted tenfold when both superstar athletes announced their commitments to the Aggies. The only thing left on the agenda is to get them to College Station so they can begin electrifying the Aggie faithful at Kyle Field next year.

Another major commit coming? Alabama among finalists for elite 2026 in-state edge rusher

A program with an extensive amount of momentum on the recruiting trail at the moment, could yet another major commitment be coming for the Alabama Crimson Tide? Yes, on Thursday afternoon, Alabama was named among the finalists for another one of the nation's elite recruits, this time coming from in-state in highly-touted edge rusher Anthony "Tank" Jones. Per a report from Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, Jones has narrowed down his list of finalists to three, listing the Crimson Tide alongside both Oregon and Texas A&M. According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Jones is currently considered as the nation's No. 16 overall prospect in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 3 edge rusher nationally. A five-star prospect, Jones is also ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the state of Alabama where he attends St. Paul's Episcopal School. Alabama's 2026 class currently ranks No. 6 nationally, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings, with 17 total commitments, three of which are five-star prospects. 2026 5-star Edge places Texas A&M in his final 3 program list

Where's home?🦆🐘👍🏿? Texas A&M's 2026 edge class could end up reaching historic levels by the end of the year, with two key commitments approaching, starting with four-star KJ Ford out of Duncanville (TX), and five-star Anthony "Tank" Jones, who both placed the Aggies in their final three program lists. While Ford is down to Ohio State, Florida, and A&M, Jones has revealed final contenders. Jones has not revealed his commitment date, but is now down to Oregon, Alabama, and Texas A&M, as the Mobile (AL) native took an official visit to all three programs this summer, including College Station on June 13. Jones left Texas A&M with nothing but positive takeaways, knowing that defensive line coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie already have a development plan in place for the elite pass rusher to reach his full potential. Texas A&M's history of producing NFL defensive linemen is vast and unique, led by Myles Garrett, Von Miller, and Nnamdi Madubuike, all of whom are considered top players at their position. Garrett and Miller are first-ballot Hall of Famers. This summer, Jones received several predictions to land at Texas A&M early last month, but things have tightened up after his official visits to Oregon and Alabama. Still, the Aggies should be considered the favorites going forward. Standing at 6'4", 240 pounds, Jones is a versatile defensive lineman who could see snaps inside at the next level; however, his strength is off the edge, where he wreaks havoc with a two or three-point stance, and is extremely powerful once he makes contact. During his 2024 junior season, Jones was dominant, producing 84 tackles, 16 sacks, and 18 tackles for loss. According to Rivals, Jones is currently positioned as the 23rd-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 2nd-ranked edge and the 2nd-ranked prospect in Alabama.
