Heineken® 0.0 takes pole position at the F1® movie premiere
South Africa, 27 June 2025: The South African premiere of F1® THE MOVIE was more than just an opulent 'green' carpet meets racetrack moment. With Heineken® 0.0 at the heart of it all, the night brought together friends, fans, and familiar faces to show that you don't need alcohol to enjoy the moment — just good company, great storytelling, and a drink that keeps you in the driver's seat.
From track to theatre, Heineken® 0.0 took centre stage at the IMAX Mall of Africa, blending seamlessly into the thrill of Formula 1® and the sophistication of film — all while reinforcing a modern, inclusive message: there are zero reasons needed to choose moderation.
Hosted by celebrity F1 fan and radio host, Anele Mdoda, the theatre was packed with South African movers and shakers, including the likes of Girlie Lukhele, Khuli Chana, Bonko and Lesego khoza, Zakes Bantwini, Karabo Didi and so many more.
'As a brand, we've always believed culture has the power to shape behaviour. Tonight's premiere is proof of that,' said Warrick Wyngaard, Marketing Communication Manager for Heineken® South Africa. 'This filmbrings together emotion, adrenaline, and culture. The same ingredients make Heineken® 0.0 such a natural fit. We're leading the conversation around moderation in a way that feels aspirational, modern, and completely in step with how people are choosing to live and socialise today.'
Heineken® 0.0 was announced as an official global partner of Apple Original Films' F1® THE MOVIE, a collaboration brought to life with a new campaign directed by the movie's director/producer himself, Joseph Kosinski, and which features the film's stars, Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. Heineken® 0.0 features directly in the film, reinforcing its natural place in the world of Formula 1® – a world the brand has been in partnership with since 2016.
With F1® THE MOVIE set to hit cinemas nationwide on 27th June, Wyngaard says that Heineken® 0.0 is leading the conversation about shifting drinking norms, featuring in cultural spaces where audiences are already reconsidering how they socialise.
'Lifestyles are changing and drinking habits are too. More people are choosing low and no-alcohol options for a night, for a lifestyle shift, or just because. We're adapting to give people the freedom to choose what suits them best,' continues Wyngaard.
For Wyngaard the premiere wasn't just a first look at F1® THE MOVIE, it was a bold expression of where culture is headed. 'It was a proud moment to be there as Heineken® 0.0, and to have the backing from the global brand team as well as many local celebs and media personalities. This really showcased the incredible transformation in societal views we are witnessing.'
From racing fans to film lovers, guests left not only excited for the nationwide release but inspired to embrace moderation and celebrate life's moments with confidence, intention, and a cold Heineken® 0.0 in hand. Get into the driver's seat and catch F1® THE MOVIE in theatres today. Join the movement and share your story with #NowYouCan #EnjoyHeinekenResponsibly.

Brad Binder battles RC16 limitations once again in tough Dutch Grand Prix
South African rider Brad Binder of Red Bull KTM in action during the MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix weekend. Photo: EPA Image: EPA Brad Binder's 2025 MotoGP season continued to follow a frustrating pattern at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands, where a lack of outright speed in his Red Bull KTM RC16 again left the South African star fighting from behind. Binder endured a torrid build-up to the Assen weekend, struggling through practice with finishes of 18th, 19th, and 20th. His qualifying woes continued as he failed to advance from Q1, securing a 16th-place start, compounding the challenge of turning things around on race day. 'I didn't have much pace all weekend,' Binder admitted frankly. The 29-year-old, renowned for his consistency and fighting spirit, once again managed to salvage a result from a tough situation, bringing his bike home in 11th place on Sunday. Although he missed out on points in Saturday's Sprint, his Sunday result earned him a total of five valuable championship points for the weekend. It also marked the second weekend in a row where he avoided mistakes, stayed upright, and limited the damage despite starting well outside the top ten. 'I could do the same time every lap, but it was too slow. I missed the speed here. It's been tough, and the only positive thing is that I finished both races,' he continued. 'But that doesn't mean much to me. 'We need to go home and analyze where I was losing the time. In general, it is nothing too serious; we just need a bit more speed.' What's becoming increasingly frustrating for Binder (47) is the comparison with rookie teammate Pedro Acosta (98), who has consistently extracted stronger performances from the same machinery as he finished fourth, opening a 51-point gap in the riders championship.

How Orlando Pirates can beat Sundowns for the league
Orlando Pirates will once again battle Mamelodi Sundowns for the league. Image: @orlandopirates/X Orlando Pirates have finished as league runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns four times in the past seven years. ADVERTISEMENT Last season, the Buccaneers led the Betway Premiership for the first seven rounds, but a few losses allowed Masandawana to take advantage. Despite a strong effort, the Sea Robbers lost crucial matches towards the end of the season, resulting in a 12-point deficit in the title race. As the new season approaches, many football fans expect Sundowns to claim their ninth straight league title. Their squad has appeared almost unbeatable, with only three losses and one draw last campaign. What can Orlando Pirates do to win the league? Consistency ADVERTISEMENT Pirates lost momentum in the second half of the season, which contributed to their failure to secure the title. Fans believe that if the Buccaneers had won all their matches in March and April, they could have pressured Sundowns into dropping points. Score Goals Both Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa failed to score 10 goals last season. In contrast, Sundowns' duo of Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro each netted over 10 goals during the league campaign. Find a Good Striker ADVERTISEMENT For Orlando Pirates to win the league, they need a striker who can score 15 or more goals. Mabasa needs to find his form and start scoring regularly, as does Makgopa. If the strikers can score consistently, it would relieve some pressure from the wingers and midfielders. Creativity The Buccaneers have already signed attacking players, but they lack creativity in the midfield. Once they resolve their creativity issues, they may increase their chances not only of winning the league but also of competing effectively in the CAF Champions League. Can the Buccaneers win the league this coming season?
