City of uMhlathuze builds pedestrian bridges for local community
Responding to this long-standing demand from the community, City of uMhlathuze Mayor Xolani Ngwezi said, 'The newly-built pedestrian bridges now offer safe, direct routes, saving time and improving access across the area.'
He said these benefit schoolchildren and the elderly, who are among those most affected by poor infrastructure.
Ngwezi extended his gratitude to all stakeholders, city officials, and the construction teams whose co-operation made this achievement possible.
'We are committed to serving our communities with integrity and dedication.
'The City of uMhlathuze remains determined to deliver quality services and infrastructure to all communities, and we are working swiftly to ensure no one is left behind,' said Ngwezi.

Parents hailed as heroes after rescuing child from burning Dannhauser home
A house was gutted and family members had to be treated medically after a fire broke out at a home in Emafusini, Dannhauser, last Tuesday evening. Community spokesperson Farzanah Dookie (of the Helping Hands organisation) said that the family had lost everything in the blaze. The parents bravely saved their child from the blaze, but the house was destroyed, leaving them with nothing. 'We're reaching out for your kindness and generosity to provide essential items like food, blankets and medicines. 'Your donation can help us rebuild this family's life. It was only this week that Dannhauser Municipality announced the arrival of a new, high-performance, robust fire-fighting bush pumper. The equipment includes a 2000-litre water tank, 100-litre foam tank and a centrifugal pump. Hope is that the new equipment will help the municipality to respond effectively to fires during winter when authorities are on high alert. Help KZN children's hospice fill their shelves The Butterfly Palliative Home children's hospice based in Empangeni and Ingwavuma is reaching out for help with supplies for the young 'butterflies' in their care. They ask the community to help with groceries, essential goods – such as nappies – and basic medicine. 'Please help us fill our shelves and ensure our children have what they need. Every little helps!' requested the NGO on their social media platforms. Butterfly Home offers end-of-life care for orphaned and abandoned babies, and young children facing terminal illness. Butterfly Home's flagship facility in Ingwavuma was the first children's hospice in KZN and one of just three in South Africa.
