‘Factually incorrect': HAL dismisses reports of stalled GE414 engine deal, confirms ‘negotiations on track'
Certain reports suggested that talks between HAL and GE had faltered and that HAL was exploring engine alternatives with other manufacturers for its light combat aircraft (LCA) Mk2 programme. The defence PSU dismissed this as false.
HAL, in a statement, made it clear that the report was factually incorrect and misleading. "An online article has inaccurately reported that negotiations between HAL and GE for the local production of GE414 engines have stalled, suggesting that HAL is now in talks with another engine manufacturer," said the HAL statement.
HAL reiterates that negotiations with GE are on track and progressing well, and that HAL is not in talks with any other company regarding engines for LCA MK2. "Any information suggesting otherwise is incorrect," it added.
According to earlier reports, HAL formed a Contract Negotiation Committee to oversee discussions with GE. Talks reportedly began on December 3, 2024, and while no final agreement has been reached, HAL has asked GE for specific technical documents to assess the proposed transfer of technology.
In June 2023, HAL and GE Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force. The agreement was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official visit to the United States, and it was a key element in strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement included the potential joint production of GE Aerospace's F414 engines in India. The MoU was part of the Indian Air Force's Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 program. The GE414 engine is a key component for the Tejas Mark 2, an upgraded version of India's indigenous fighter jet. The ongoing deal with GE is expected to involve technology and pave the way for local production, furthering India's long-term goal of strategic autonomy in aerospace.

Nashik airport records 56% rise in passenger traffic in April-June period in 2025-26 financial year
Nashik: The Nashik airport, managed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), recorded a 56% rise in air passenger traffic in the April-June period of the 2025-26 financial year. The airport saw 1.06 lakh flyers in this period, compared to 67,694 passengers during the same period of 2024-25 financial year, revealeds the data provided by the airport authority. This is the first time that passenger traffic at the Nashik airport crossed the 1lakh mark in the first quarter of any financial year. The rise in passenger traffic is due to improved air connectivity with more cities. Passenger footfall at the airport has increased steadily over the past year due to positive responses from air passengers. At present, a private airline operates flights from the Nashik airport to six destinations: Delhi, Goa, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Indore. The airline is also planning to start flights from Nashik to Kolkata in the coming months. Due to higher occupancy, the airline started 232-seater Airbus A321 flights on the Nashik-Delhi and Nashik-Bengaluru routes from March 30. Previously, the airline operated 180-seater Airbus A320 flights on these routes. Deploying larger Airbus aircraft on the Nashik to Delhi and Bengaluru routes also led to a rise in passenger traffic in the April-June period of the current financial year, said sources. In the 2024-25 financial year, the Nashik airport recorded a footfall of 3.4 lakh passengers, compared to 2.4 lakh passengers during the previous financial year (2023-24). Total passenger footfall at the airport in 2022-23 was recorded at 1.07 lakh passengers. Ashish Nahar, the president of the Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (Nima), said the airport has huge potential for air service because of the various industrial, business, and tourism potentials of Nashik. The defence PSU HAL, various central govt projects, and major multinational companies have their bases in Nashik. Apart from the major religious places, Nashik is also known as the wine capital of the country as it houses the maximum number of wineries. Moreover, Nashik is one of the four places in the country where the Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years. Hence, the airport has huge potential, said Ashish Nahar. "Moreover, the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela is also being held between 2026 and 2028 in Nashik, and passenger traffic will increase significantly at the Nashik airport during the mega religious event. We are also pursuing the state govt for the expansion of the Nashik airport," added Nahar. Manish Rawal, the chairman of Nima's aviation committee, said the occupancy in all the flights from Nashik is around 90% on average. Most of the time, the occupancy in 232-seater Airbus A321 flights on the Nashik-Delhi and Nashik-Bengaluru routes is 100%. "There is a need for a second daily Nashik-Delhi flight considering the footfall of passengers," added Rawal, who is also a vice-president of Nima.

CRPF personnel made a mark by their duty, courage, says PM on Raising Day
NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Sunday complimented the CRPF for playing a vital role in the national security apparatus, especially in challenging aspects relating to internal security. Wishing CRPF personnel on the force's 87th Raising Day, Prime Minister Modi on X said, "CRPF personnel have made a mark for their duty, courage and steadfast commitment in the most testing of situations." Home minister Amit Shah, in a message to CRPF on X, said, "Your selfless sacrifice has been the backbone of our nation's security and your unwavering courage to end Naxalism is truly commendable". Home secretary Govind Mohan, while addressing CRPF Raising Day celebrations here, assured the force of the ministry of home affairs' commitment to arming it with modern weapons and latest technology to meet the increasing security challenges India faces. The secretary emphasised that the MHA would deploy technology to minimise the risk of injury in risky operations. "In the coming days, we will have drones that can see through thick foliage in the mountains etc, weapons that can be fired from a safe range and technology to remotely detect and defuse IEDs," he said.
