Her sole defeat came on her UFC debut when she lost to Bruna Brasil by unanimous decision.
Like her Irish opponent, Hughes was last in action in March when she beat Stephanie Luciano on a split decision.
The 33-year-old American holds a professional record of 10-6 and has been fighting in the UFC for five years.

UFC champ Kayla Harrison: 'I'm proud of the woman I look at in the mirror'

LAS VEGAS – Kayla Harrison was in attendance to watch her former friend and training partner Amanda Nunes get inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame last week, and the recently-crowned women's bantamweight champion had no qualms about giving the consensus GOAT of women's MMA her due. "This is her night," Harrison told MMA Junkie and other reporters Thursday when asked about Nunes on the red carpet. "I think it's very well deserved. She's the GOAT. She deserves all of her roses and all of her flowers – and then we'll see." Those cautionary words at the end there? That's Harrison looking ahead to her presumed first title defense against Nunes, which could happen before the year is over. Harrison became the UFC's 135-pound champion last month when she submitted Julianna Peña at UFC 316. While the moment was the realization of career-long goal, even while she was dominating her way to two title in the PFL, Harrison isn't resting on her laurels knowing what's at stake legacy-wise when she fights Nunes. "From the first day I started MMA, this was the dream," Harrison said. "And so, once it happened, I was like, 'Oh, we're done? We did it?' But we're not done yet." As she looks ahead to what could be the biggest fight in women's MMA history, Harrison, who turns 35 on Tuesday, still took a moment to reflect on the journey to the top of the mountain – and there's nothing she would change about it. "I think the body of work. It's not necessarily one moment, but it's all of the moments collectively, and it's how I did it," Harrison said. "I didn't change who I am. I stayed true to myself. I'm proud of the woman I look at in the mirror. I think sometimes it's easy for champions to get lost a little bit in that, and so I'm proud of who I am."

Frances Tiafoe has another short stay at Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON, England — Frances Tiafoe was the latest casualty of whatever is ailing seeded players at the All England Club. The No. 12 seed from Maryland lost Wednesday to unseeded Brit Cameron Norrie, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 5-7, in front of a friendly crowd, considering the circumstances, on the same show court where his compatriot Coco Gauff lost Tuesday. The second-round loss is Tiafoe's earliest exit at Wimbledon since 2019 and an anticlimactic ending to a fine showing during the European leg of the season, at least on the biggest stages. The 27-year-old reached the quarterfinals of the French Open last month. He has never advanced past the fourth round at Wimbledon. 'Grass is a tricky surface. The game is getting much deeper,' Tiafoe said, when asked to explain the early-round exodus of highly seeded players. 'You have to think, not so long ago [in 2022] Cam made the semifinals here, and now I'm playing him the second round. … Now a lot of guys you don't even know come out and play, and by the time you know it, you find yourself battling deep in the fourth and fifth.' That's how it happened for Tiafoe, at least, who led 0-40 on Norrie's serve in the second set, had three opportunities to take a 5-4 lead and give himself the chance to serve for a two-set edge. Instead, he dumped two routine backhands into the net and flubbed two forehands, sending one long and one wide, from the same area of the court while returning short, crosscourt zingers from Norrie. Though the Brit had been playing from behind, he was far more aggressive and kept Tiafoe on his heels. He sealed the game with an ace, then broke Tiafoe at deuce in the next game to take the set. 'His intensity and belief went much higher, and he played much better. I didn't play as aggressive after that, but he played much better,' Tiafoe said. 'I thought it was a really, really big turning point because if I made one of those shots, he was not going to get to any of them, and I would have been serving for two sets to love up.' Tiafoe now turns his attention to his favorite part of the season, the U.S. hard-court swing, where he will try to beat his semifinal appearance at last year's U.S. Open. With his loss, the bleeding at the top seemed to ebb on the men's side for a while. No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz took care of business in a tidy, 2-hour 17-minute win over British qualifier Oliver Tarvet in straight sets. But in the women's draw, last year's runner-up Jasmine Paolini, the fourth seed this year, fell in her second-round matchup against Kamilla Rakhimova to leave just five of the top-10 seeds alive. Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka and No. 6 seed Madison Keys breezed through their matches on the women's side — as did unseeded Naomi Osaka, who quietly advanced past Katerina Siniakova, 6-3, 6-2, and into the third round, which she last reached in 2018. The four-time Grand Slam winner did not play at Wimbledon from 2021 to 2023 and bowed out in the second round last year. She plays again Friday as she continues to search for the elite tennis with which she once led the women's tour.

Aitana Bonmatí making 'very positive' progress, could play in Spain's Euro 2025 opener

Spain star Aitana Bonmatí is making good progress after recovering from viral meningitis and might even be available for the world champion's opening match at the UEFA Women's Euro 2025, coach Montse Tomé said Wednesday. The two-time Ballon d'Or winner's participation in the tournament was in doubt last week when she was hospitalized after falling ill with a fever late Friday, but she rejoined the squad Monday and took part in training Tuesday. "Let's see. Aitana is evolving positively," Tomé said the day before Spain's opening match against Portugal. "Yesterday, she did part of the training … I think she spent 15 minutes on her own and her progress is very positive. For today's training, she'll do some tasks with the team. She's willing to play, but we'll see what the medical services are telling me. What matters is the player's health and good condition, but her progress is positive." After Portugal, Spain also faces Belgium and Italy in Group B at UEFA Women's Euro 2025. The 27-year-old Bonmatí has won the top individual award for women's soccer for the past two years. The Barcelona player was key to Spain winning the 2023 Women's World Cup for its first major women's trophy. Spain also won the inaugural 2024 Women's Nations League, but it has never won the European Championship. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
