West Indies head coach Darren Sammy has been fined by the ICC (International Cricket Council) for his disparaging remarks against third umpire Adrian Holdstock during the first Test against Australia in Barbados. Sammy had expressed his concerns over two contentious calls during Day 2 of the Test match, which went against the West Indies.
He has been fined 15% of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. The former West Indies captain was found to have violated Article 2.7 of the Code, which pertains to 'public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an International Match or any Player, Player Support Personnel, Match Official or team participating in any International Match.'
One demerit point has also been added to Sammy's disciplinary record, with this being his first offence in a 24-month period. The West Indies head coach has accepted his sanction proposed by Match Referee Javagal Srinath for the charge levelled by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite.
Three decisions became the talking point of the Test match as on Day 1, Australia batter Travis Head was given a reprieve by TV umpire Adrian Holdstock after he ruled him not out on 53, citing a lack of evidence on a clear catch by Shai Hope behind the stumps. Later on Day 2, Roston Chase was given out lbw against Pat Cummins, despite the cameras showing an inside edge onto the pads on replays.
To add to West Indies' woes, Shai Hope was given out against Beau Webster as a low take from wicketkeeper Alex Carey was ruled in Australia's favour. Darren Sammy even met with match referee Javagal Srinath after Day 2 to express his concerns over the controversial decisions.
"You don't want to get yourself in a situation where you're wondering about certain umpires. Is there something against this team? But when you see decision after decision, then it raises the question,' said Sammy at the end of the day's play.

(AP) The No.1-ranked ICC Test bowler, Bumrah, dished out 43.4 overs in the series opener in Headingley. There was daylight between Bumrah and the rest of the seamers (Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur). The rest of the three pacers conceded runs at a brisk pace and were unable to create any sort of pressure. Bumrah took five wickets in the first innings but failed to take a single wicket in the second innings. Shubman Gill seemingly managed Bumrah's workload in the middle of the Test, as he was not asked to bowl even when England were 85 runs away from the target of 371. 'Bumrah is surely available. The India pacer, who took five wickets in the first innings of the Leeds Test, was always uncertain for the second Test, but the fact that he featured in two of India's three practice sessions, including the one on the eve of the Birmingham game, sends out mixed signals. The decision could have been a lot easier had India won the Leeds, but with the 2nd Test of the series starting in 8 days' time, not playing Bumrah could be catastrophic. Can India afford to go 0-2 down and bring Bumrah back for the Lord's Test? It's a big if. Will he or won't he? Jasprit Bumrah's availability for 2nd India vs England Test remains a mystery(Reuters) Do you think the Indian team management had made the decision which Tests Jasprit Bumrah was going to play and which ones he'll skip, even before they landed in England? Because this is where the grey area can start. And he's still having issues. As a human being that is worrying. He's got a life to live, he's got a young family and if you can't take part in normal life. If you undo that surgery by breaking him again, you've lost him forever. So that's where his workload is actually important. You saw him walk off at SCG. He knew. He was bowling fine but he knew his back was cooked. I just think they are going to play him – they need to win it and get some momentum back. But it's who you're putting around him to compliment him so that he doesn't need to do all the work is the more important question." Why Healy makes sense? Healy makes a staggering point. Yes, Bumrah is important. But is it worth taking the risk? India have a long Test season ahead, during which they will play series at home and abroad. Besides, Bumrah is a key factor in India's T20 World Cup defence next year and the 2027 World Cup 2027. As Healy pointed out, in 2022, Bumrah underwent back surgery, which kept him out of action for over a year. When he returned, he was a beast, bowling better than ever before. But despite going under the knife, Bumrah is not bulletproof – the back injury he sustained in Australia is an example – and hence, preserving him is their biggest hope. If he plays the Edgbaston Test, which again could last all five days, given the nature of the pitch, Bumrah risks injuring himself again. Either Bumrah skips the Lord's Test, which no player in their right mind would want to miss, or he sits out the one starting tomorrow. No way he's playing both this and the next one.

Pak media says India will take part in Asia Cup 2025 Now, a report in Pakistan's has claimed that BCCI has confirmed to the official broadcasters that India will take part in the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the T20I format. 'Sony has now also been told by the BCCI not to worry – India will play in the Asia Cup,' the report said. It also stated that an Indian broadcaster has confirmed: 'The tournament will be held in September. Our team will also participate.' The report further noted that India and Pakistan have consistently faced each other in ICC tournaments despite strained diplomatic relations, suggesting that both teams are likely to participate in the Asia Cup 2025.
