Beloved children's presenter Glen Michael dies aged 99

Glen Michael, a widely-loved children's TV presenter, has died aged 99.
His family confirmed he died after a short illness in his home in South Ayrshire on Wednesday evening.
Michael made a name for himself with Scottish audiences and beyond on the show Cartoon Cavalcade, which started broadcasting in 1966 and went on to present it for 26 years (coming to an end in 1992).
Bobby Hain, Managing Director of Audience at STV, released a statement to mark his legacy.
'Glen was a wonderful performer and personality, and we know that many viewers will have very fond memories of him. More Trending
'He was an STV legend, with Glen Michael's Cavalcade a particular favourite for children across Scotland during its 26-year run.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time, and we send them our deepest condolences,' he said.
During Cartoon Cavalcade he would introduce cartoons, talk with various companions and spend time with his dogs Rudi and Rusti.

The show won Scottish ITV programme of the year award in 1975, awarded by Radio Industries Club of Scotland.

Confidence Man stormed the King Tut's stage with a blistering set that put some energy into a sun-induced, sweat-soaked audience. The electro-pop, synth-laden sound coupled with energetic choreography was perfect for the sunset crowd. Kicking off his set with What Up Gangsta? - there was no chit chat as Fiddy belted out hit after hit, including PIMP, I Get Money, and Candy Shop. Addressing the crowd, he then said: 'I have been doing this s**t a long time.' And with that, he went back to the beginning for 21 Questions which attracted a sing-along from the packed out TRNSMT crowd as backing dancers pulled off sultry moves. He brought the nightclub to the Glasgow Green. Smiling from ear to ear, he then declared: 'God damn, this weather is amazing. 'Isn't this the best weather for an outdoor festival?' The ITV presenter has been touring her homeland as an ambassador for the Orkney International Island Games. Lorraine was jetting from Dundee to Kirkwall on a Loganair flight when she surprised other passengers by jumping up to the front of the plane and speaking into the microphone. "Hi everybody, I'm Lorraine Kelly and I want to welcome you on this Loganair flight," she started. "Of course, we have just landed in Dundee and we're on our way to Kirkwall, and this is the last call for the Orkney Island Games." lorraine kelly saved shows Major boost for ITV daytime as THREE hit shows will return amid schedule chaos Lorraine continued: "I hope you all have a brilliant time and I've always wanted to do this, this is super cool, so thank you so much and enjoy. Making the announcement on the @flyloganair flight from Dundee to Kirkwall - for @orkney2025 - great atmosphere here - the #bermuda team were playing a fun game of cricket down the High Street in Kirkwall last night!" Lorraine's role as the Games' ambassador comes after ITV slashed her eponymous daytime show by 30 minutes. From January, Lorraine will only take to the airwaves for 30 weeks of the year and for only half an hour at a time. Following the announcement, fears rose that the veteran presenter could quit the channel entirely. However, she insisted that she was not quite done yet when she spoke to Tom Kerridge on the Proper Tasty podcast in May. Lorraine, 65, has been appearing on ITV breakfast screens for over four decades. She joined the original breakfast TV station TV-am in 1994 as its Scotland Correspondent. When the Camden-based company lost its licence, she was one of only a few stars who made the switch to GMTV in 1993.
