Why is EastEnders not on tonight? Soap schedule changes revealed

Metro23-07-2025
EastEnders has been hit by yet more schedule changes, taking the BBC soap off air tonight.
Soap fans have faced plenty of disruption this summer, with various sporting events playing havoc with our regular viewing schedules.
Tonight, it is EastEnders that takes the brunt of the changes, with Emmerdale having been affected earlier this week.
The ITV soap was shunted from its usual slot by coverage of the England vs Italy UEFA Women's Euro match, which saw the Lionesses take home the victory with two goals to one.
In previous weeks, EastEnders has also been shifted for events like Wimbledon and previous UEFA Women's Euro football matches
Instead of their usual trip to Albert Square at 7.30pm this evening, BBC1 viewers will be met with coverage of the UEFA Women's Euro.
Tonight, Germany takes on Spain in the second semi-final of the event, with the match set to kick off at 8pm.
Fortunately, EastEnders fans haven't missed out on their weekly dose of drama, with the soap having aired a double-bill of episodes last night.
The London-based soap will next hit our screens at its usual time of 7.30pm tomorrow, where there is more drama for the Brannings and Panesars.
Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) gets a warning from uncle Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) tomorrow night, demanding that he not cause Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Peter Beale (Thomas Law) any trouble.
However, when Oscar later agrees to babysit so the couple can go out for a meal, he is horrified when an old acquaintance arrives and threatens him, leaving another sinister threat behind as he scarpers. More Trending
Elsewhere, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) has a lot on her plate as Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) leaves for Ash's engagement party and she heads to discuss Avani Nandra-Hart's (Aaliyah James) pregnancy with the Granthi.
Later, she manages to fix things with Eve Unwin (Heather Peace)as she makes amends for her recent behaviour.

Meanwhile, Avani explains the reasoning behind her decision to have an abortion to Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman).

Dua Lipa cozies up to fiance Callum Turner at festival as she celebrates being granted Kosovo citizenship

Dua Lipa partied the night away as she celebrated being granted her Kosovo citizenship. The singer, 29, who was born in London to Kosovan-Albanian parents, was granted the citizenship from Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani on Friday. To celebrate the honor, Dua enjoyed a big night out at the three-day Sunny Hill Festival, which she organizes with her father Dukagjin Lipa. On Saturday, she shared a gallery of photographs of her dancing the night away on Instagram. In one snap, Dua got cozy with her fiance Callum Turner as she sat on his lap while he wrapped his hand around her head. Dua was joined by a group of friends as she let her hair down while dancing to DJ Fatboy Slim. Alongside her post, she wrote: 'Got my citizenship the night before and then partied hard at @sunnyhillfestival the night after!!!! @officialfatboyslim !!!!! lovinggggg lifeeee.' Speaking about her new citizenship, Dua said she 'feels like my two sides are now one', adding: 'It completes the duality I have always had within. I love this country and this means so much to me and my family.' Hailing the singer as 'one of the most iconic cultural figures in our country's history', President Osmani said it was an 'honor' to grant Dua citizenship. Images of the ceremony showed a beaming Dua posing with President Osmani. Sharing the snaps on X, President Osmani said: 'Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. From the world's biggest stages to the hearts of millions, she's carried our story with strength, pride, and grace... 'Our gratitude is endless for everything Dua has done, and continues to do for Kosovo'. Also in attendance was UK Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves. Dua now holds citizenship for Britain, Albania and Kosovo. She was granted Albanian citizenship in 2022 by President Bajram Begaj for her role in spreading Albania's fame internationally through music. Dua is currently in Kosovo for the three-day annual Sunny Hill Festival, and she often speaks about her love for the country. She even helped set up a charity that focuses on helping vulnerable communities in Kosovo.

Chris Bryant MP says he was abused at 16 by head of National Youth Theatre

The MP Chris Bryant has said he was sexually abused as a teenager by the head of the National Youth Theatre, Michael Croft. The Labour MP, who is an arts and telecoms minister, said he was 16 when he was abused by a 40-year-old Croft, who died in 1986. In an interview with the Sunday Times before the publication of his memoir, Bryant said Croft invited him to dinner every evening while he was attending company rehearsals in London during the summer of 1978, and that they would go to his house afterwards. He recalled coming back from the toilet one evening at Croft's house to find his host naked except for a silk robe. He said Croft then asked him for oral sex, which he felt he had no option but to go through with, leaving him feeling as if he was 'a 16-year-old whore'. 'I don't like telling this very much because I've not told it very often,' Bryant told the newspaper. 'It was always the same Italian in King's Cross. He would eat and drink, I would eat, then he would theoretically give me a lift home, except I always ended up at his house.' Bryant says Croft never made an advance towards him again and that they remained friends. Bryant, who is an ordained minister, conducted Croft's funeral. 'He behaved absolutely appallingly, it's despicable,' Bryant said. 'Michael, in my case, managed to spot somebody who was gay at a time when nearly all homosexuality was illegal – certainly very frowned on – so presumed that people would keep a secret.' He said he had at least one other friend during his National Youth Theatre days who was also abused by Croft and 'has been sort of destroyed by it all'. Others have previously come forward to the company with allegations of abuse against Croft. Bryant told the newspaper that during his years in Westminster he had been sexually assaulted by five male MPs, although he has not named or reported them. 'There was no system for doing so and I was frightened it would make me look bad,' he said, adding he felt homophobia in parliament has declined during his 24 years as an MP. A statement on the National Youth Theatre website said: 'We are grateful to Chris Bryant for disclosing to our team the historical abuse he suffered in the company in the 1970s. We are very sorry that this happened to him and to others who have previously shared with us their accounts of historic abuse by the same perpetrator. 'As we set out in a public statement on the case in 2017, we stand in solidarity with all victims of abuse and encourage anyone who has experienced abuse, no matter how long ago, to speak to someone and access support. 'In this case the perpetrator has been deceased since 1986, but all reports made to us will be dealt with in accordance with our robust and formalised safeguarding policy and practice. 'While Chris writes he doesn't feel damaged by what happened, we recognise that being subjected to an abuse of power can have lasting consequences for many, in different ways. 'Anyone getting in touch will be listened to and treated with care and respect by trained professionals, in line with our certified trauma-informed practice. 'We are grateful to Chris for his support of our organisation today, and acknowledgment of how different a charity we are in 2025 to the one he encountered in the 1970s, with thorough safeguarding practices and policies in place.'
