The campaign aims to plant 35 crore saplings during the 2025 monsoon season, with 1.14 crore to be planted specifically along roadside stretches by the forest department.
To ensure the success of this massive effort, over 52.43 crore saplings have been prepared across 2,586 nurseries spanning forest, horticulture, sericulture, and private sectors.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will also join the drive by planting 2.5 lakh saplings along five major expressways, with the Bundelkhand Expressway accounting for the highest share of 1.2 lakh saplings.
Mission director of the plantation campaign 2025, Deepak Kumar, said the initiative reflects Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of a greener and sustainable Uttar Pradesh. "All preparations are complete, and we are ready to execute the largest plantation campaign in the country," he said. The coordinated drive will involve multiple govt departments and agencies working in tandem to improve ecological balance, reduce pollution, and contribute to climate resilience.
Officials said the campaign would not only beautify roadsides and highways but also engage local communities in long-term environmental stewardship.

Green zones suggested to tackle pollution in city
Patna: Owing to the rising temperatures, construction of "green zones" have been proposed in both rural and urban areas of Patna. This suggestion was made on Van Mahotsav on Tuesday by Mousumi Gupta and Sunil Kumar Gupta, senior officials at environmental information, awareness, capacity building and livelihood programme (EIACP) at the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Patna, "a heat-stressed concrete jungle" as described by Gupta, needs green zones much like the Tarumitra bio-reserve. These zones will also promote initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, construction of green buildings, cultivation of medicinal plants and energy generation from renewables like solar power. These additions would help reduce air and water pollution while simultaneously creating sustainable employment and affordable housing. Green zones have potential to contribute to a healthier lifestyle of all citizens. ADRI also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tarumitra for future collaborations to fight climate change. Apart from this, the Van Mahotsav also included a painting competition, a tour of the bio-reserve, a screening of a documentary on 'Mission Life' and an awareness talk about the reserve's medicinal plants.
