A Filipina caregiver in Rehovot, Israel has died from injuries she sustained when an Iranian missile strike hit her apartment block, the Philippine Embassy in Israel said on Sunday.
According to the embassy in a Facebook post, Leah Mosquera, 49 and a native of Negros Occidental, underwent several surgeries at Shamir Medical Center, where she "fought for her life" at the intensive care unit for several weeks.
Her passing was confirmed by her sister Joy, who also works in Israel.
"The Embassy is now working on the repatriation arrangements and the provision of all necessary assistance for Ms. Mosquera," the embassy said.
"Lovingly called Ate Leah by her friends, she would have celebrated her 50th birthday this 29 July," it added.

DMW mourns passing of Pinay caregiver in Israel due to injuries from Iran missile strike

The Department of Migrant Workers conveyed its condolences to the relatives of the Filipina caregiver who died in Israel due to injuries after an Iranian missile attack. "The Department of Migrant Workers deeply mourns the passing of OFW caregiver Leah Mosquera, a victim of an Iranian missile attack on the City of Rehovot, Israel last 15 June 2025," the DMW said in a statement issued on Sunday. "We extend our deepest sympathy to Ms. Mosquera's family. Truly, OFW Leah's dedication and quiet heroism embody the strength and sacrifices of our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who carry the hopes and dreams of their families, their communities, and our nation," it added. The DMW-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, in partnership with the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, will pay for the expenses related to the repatriation of Mosquera's remains to the Philippines, as well as her burial, the department said. Mosquera's sister and fellow caregiver Mae Joy would also be assisted in her travel back to the Philippines, the DMW said. Financial assistance would also be extended to Mosquera's family, it added. "We honor Ms. Mosquera's life of service and enduring legacy of care. She is a heroine who shall live in our hearts forever," the department said. Mosquera, 49 and a native of Negros Occidental, underwent several surgeries at Shamir Medical Center, where she "fought for her life" in the intensive care unit for several weeks, the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv said. "The Embassy is now working on the repatriation arrangements and the provision of all necessary assistance for Ms. Mosquera," the embassy said. No heels needed: 5 sneakers that add height without discomfort

Wearing heels is a top-of-mind option for women looking to add more height. But let's face it, they're not exactly made for long walks, busy days, or the Metro Manila landscape. In fact, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Emilia Halili Tanchuling said in a 2009 report that women who wear heels place their "body in an abnormal position." "When you're wearing heels, your foot is thrust forward into your toes and on the ball of the feet. So, what the body does is it tries to compensate. That is already a postural problem," Dr. Tanchuling said. That is not to say you should avoid wearing heels altogether, but to find a pair that won't compromise your comfort. "Wear shoes with an inch or two at the most because this relaxes your heel cord," the doctor advised. For those looking to rest their feet from wearing heels, today's sneaker designs offer the best of both worlds: comfort and a few extra inches. Whether you're looking to hit your 10,000 steps goal or simply running some errands on a busy day, here are five sneakers with elevation for that added lift. 1. Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Lift Double Stack The Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars Lift Double Stack offers 2 inches of platform height for its wearer. Think classic Chuck Taylors, but with a few inches for those looking to stand taller. Website. 2. New Balance 740 The New Balance 740 is more subtle in giving you a boost of about 1.2 inches. It can also be used for running, assuring you that it's comfortable for casual walking and other physical activities. Foot Locker. 3. Adidas Gazelle Bold The Adidas Gazelle Bold is similar to its classic predecessor but with a 1.8-inch height boost platform, three layers higher than the original design. Website. 4. Nike Air Max 90 The Nike Air Max 90 adds about 1.5 inches to the wearer's height due to its thick midsole and the iconic visible unit of the Air Max at the heel. It's available in various colorways, and you can also design your own via Nike's website. Website. 4. Asics GT-2000 13 ATC The Asics GT-2000 13 ATC is also on the subtle side with a 1.4-inch boost for the wearer's height. Similar to the New Balance 740, this pair can also be used for running and other physical activities. Website.
