Son of Norway's crown princess charged with rape, sexual assault and bodily harm
Oslo police on Friday announced charges against Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norway's crown princess, on counts including rape, sexual assault and bodily harm after a months-long investigation of a case that involved a 'double-digit' number of alleged victims.
Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, has been under scrutiny since he was repeatedly arrested in 2024 amid allegations of rape and on preliminary charges of bodily harm and criminal damage.
The Oslo police attorney Andreas Kruszewski said Høiby had been cooperative during police questioning, which was now complete. Evidence in the case was drawn from sources including text messages, witness testimonies and police searches, the police attorney said.
The charges included one case of rape involving intercourse and two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of bodily harm, Kruszewksi said at a news conference.
'I cannot go into further detail about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a double-digit number,' he said.
The defence attorney Petar Sekulic, in an email to the Associated Press, said Høiby was 'absolutely taking the accusations very seriously, but doesn't acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases – especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence'.
The royal palace did not immediately respond to a request from AP seeking comment.
Høiby, 28, previously lived with the royal couple and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, but now lives in a separate house nearby, according to Sekulic.
He remains free pending a possible trial and is entitled to a presumption of innocence until a court rules otherwise.

Later, she claims, after her friend went home, she and Retzlaff began to watch a movie and ultimately began kissing. Jane Doe's lawsuit states she did not immediately disclose Retzlaff's name to Provo police, but later informed them that it was the BYU quarterback, only to be told victims 'never get justice' However, she says she did not want to go any further. 'Retzlaff began escalating the situation,' the filing reads, 'and Jane Doe A.G. tried to de-escalate the situation and attempted to slow things down, trying to pull away, and saying "wait." She did not want to do anything sexual with him.' After allegedly telling Retzlaff 'no' and trying to leave, Retzlaff grabbed her by the neck and proceeded to rape her, according to the lawsuit. Provo police have released their own statement, questioning Doe's claims against the department. 'The civil suit states that Provo Police personnel discouraged the victim from proceeding, by telling her there is no justice for victims of sexual abuse,' wrote a department spokesperson. 'From everything we have reviewed, this is not true. We have a team of dedicated investigators and victim advocates whose sole mission is to provide justice to victims of sexual abuse. They do not send people away, warning them there is no justice for victims.' Retzlaff, a junior, is rumored to be dating BYU softball player Jaelynn Lambert, who is another California native. The quarterback has posted pictures of himself with the outfielder on Instagram. Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is taking legal action against two Norwegian publications just days after his wedding was disrupted by a photographer being dragged away by security. The 26-year-old is taking action against weekly magazine Se og Hør and daily newspaper Dagbladet over alleged violations of privacy following reports about his home in the UK. In a letter sent to Se og Hør's editor Niklas Kokkin-Thoresen, Odegaard's lawyer Tim Lowles said: 'The article describes the location of our client's recently purchased family home and includes photographs of it.' Kokkin-Thoresen said he took the allegations with 'stoic calm' and that the articles will not be removed. Last week, the Gunners star's idyllic weekend wedding with Helen Spilling was interrupted by commotion, with a photographer dragged out by multiple security guards.
