Parliamentary panel recommends RRTS link between IGI and Jewar Airports
The Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, chaired by Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, appreciated the efforts of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for ensuring multimodal integration of RRTS with other transport modes such as metro rail, railways, inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs), bus depots and expressways.
In its report, the committee emphasised that Jewar Airport is expected to become a key transport hub for residents of Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, and nearby areas in the future. The growth of dense residential areas, employment opportunities, entertainment zones, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities along the Ghaziabad-Noida-Greater Noida corridor makes it even more crucial to connect these areas through a fast, safe, reliable, and efficient transport system like RRTS.
"The integration of RRTS will not only improve connectivity but will also enhance the ridership and financial viability of the Delhi-Meerut Corridor. It will provide much-needed connectivity to Jewar Airport, a vital node in the region's transportation network," the committee said.
The panel also noted that two major transport nodes in Delhi-NCR Indira Gandhi International Airport and Jewar Airport are yet to be integrated with the RRTS network. Regarding the IGIA-RRTS integration, the committee acknowledged that earlier it had been informed the linkage would be implemented via the Delhi-SNB corridor. "However, the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for this corridor is currently being revisited by NCRTC," it said.
The committee, therefore, recommended that both airports be connected to the RRTS network to boost regional connectivity and streamline passenger movement.
On the matter of public safety and comfort, the panel recommended conducting a study on the impact of vibrations from the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor on nearby structures, including residential buildings, offices, hospitals, and educational institutions. It also suggested the installation of sound barriers to minimize disturbance to residents and users of these facilities.
"The installation of sound barriers is important to prevent inconvenience to the public due to the operation of Namo Bharat trains," the committee added.
Regarding medical provisions, the committee noted that first-aid services have been established, and NCRTC has partnered with hospitals within a 10-kilometre radius of the Delhi-Meerut corridor for emergency medical support. RRTS personnel have also received training in administering CPR to address health emergencies such as strokes or cardiac arrests, the report said.

Metro Phase 3: Sitabuldi to Koradi Corridor Finalised in Rs8,625-Cr CMP Expansion
1 2 Nagpur: Even as works under Metro Phase 2 continue at a rapid pace across the city and it's outskirts, Nagpurkars can look forward to the next big leap, which is 'Metro Phase 3'. A new metro corridor between Sitabuldi and Koradi has been finalised as part of the recently presented Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), confirmed senior MahaMetro officials after a high-level stakeholder meeting held on Sunday in the presence of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari among others. The CMP, prepared by MahaMetro in collaboration with RITES, outlines the development of mass rapid transit corridors in the Nagpur Metropolitan Region based on traffic density, projected ridership, and future mobility needs. There is also a proposal for a Metro Phase IV, though the route has not been revealed yet. Among the key proposals in CMP Phase 1 are two High Capacity MRTS Corridors — the 11.5 km Sitabuldi–Koradi corridor and the 25km Mankapur Chowk–Rachana Junction stretch on the Inner Ring Road. Together, they are estimated to cost Rs8,625 crore. Of the two, the Sitabuldi–Koradi line was prioritised for development of the metro route. "We have finalised the Sitabuldi–Koradi corridor based on Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic (PHPDT) assessments. The ridership projections and traffic volumes make it feasible for metro operations," said a senior MahaMetro official. The proposed corridor is expected to cater to a daily ridership of 1.47 lakh commuters by 2054. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Are Houses In Dubai So Cheap? While details such as the number of stations, alignment, and exact route are yet to be finalised, officials said that once the ongoing 15-day window for suggestions from all concerned departments ends, work on preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will begin. Tenders will be floated subsequently based on the DPR findings. On the other hand, the 25km Mankapur Chowk–Rachana Junction corridor was also identified as a potential high-capacity transit corridor. However, instead of immediately extending metro services, the plan currently involves deploying articulated buses along this route. "We will study the performance of bus operations on this corridor. Based on the data collected and demand observed, necessary modifications in the mobility plan will be made in future phases," the official added. The CMP was designed keeping the horizon year 2030 in mind and includes projections extending up to 2054. It aims to create a sustainable and integrated transport network to support the region's rapid urban expansion. The inclusion of the Sitabuldi–Koradi line is a response to the growing residential and institutional developments towards Koradi, along with the high commuting demand. Another MahaMetro official also confirmed that during the meeting, CM Fadnavis asked officials to begin work on developing a financial model for the CMP. "Fadnavis pointed out that while the vision is clear, the financing and revenue generation model should also be added in the CMP. He has directed us to prepare a model outlining funding sources, investment recovery strategies, and ways to ensure long-term sustainability of the proposed infrastructure," the official said. With Metro Phase 3 taking shape and CMP inching closer to final approval, Nagpur is on track to emerge as a model city for multi-modal urban mobility.

NCRTC plan: Rail body begins sourcing power via exchange for Ghaziabad station; eyes Rs 1 crore cut in annual energy bill from first drawl point
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has started procuring electricity through the power exchange for its Receiving Sub-Station (RSS) in Ghaziabad, in a bid to reduce operational expenses and push green energy adoption. The Ghaziabad RSS serves as the interconnection point between the Namo Bharat corridor and the national power grid. According to an official statement, the initiative marks NCRTC's shift to more cost-effective and cleaner power sources for both train operations and station infrastructure, PTI reported. This move is expected to generate annual savings of around Rs 1 crore from a single drawl point in its first year, NCRTC said. The corporation currently consumes approximately 326 million units of electricity annually, incurring energy costs of nearly Rs 300 crore. Power expenditure accounts for 30–35% of NCRTC's total operational costs. To facilitate this transition, NCRTC has entered into agreements with Power Trading Corporation (PTC India Ltd) and Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL). Power purchased via the exchange is expected to be more economical than traditional distribution utility sources, it said. As part of its sustainability goals, NCRTC also aims to procure at least 15% of its annual power requirement from green energy through the exchange model. The initiative is being implemented in phases, beginning with operational segments of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. It will later be expanded to other drawl points in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as more sections become operational. Currently, 55 km of the corridor and 11 stations are in service, with full commissioning slated for later this year.
