Nebraska football predicted to land four-star Texas linebacker

USA Today3 days ago
Nebraska football landed a prediction in their favor on Monday for 2026 four-star linebacker Calvin Thomas. Thomas was given a prediction to Nebraska by On3's Steve Wilfong on Monday afternoon.
Thomas is the No. 26 overall linebacker in his class and the No. 45 overall player in the state of Texas, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The Texas Longhorns were originally thought to be leaders and his recruitment, but momentum has shifted towards the Huskers.
The linebacker recorded 69 tackles last season, to go along with seven sacks, a pass deflection, and a fumble recovery, per statistics from Maxpreps.com.
Nebraska football holds 11 commitments in the class of 2026, but Thomas would give them another four-star commitment. The class itself currently ranks No. 46 overall nationally.
It will certainly be interesting to see how this commitment plays out. Thomas would be another good addition to a solid group of linebackers.

Five-star OT recruiting target Felix Ojo gives update on his Longhorns official visit

One of the biggest recruiting targets for the Texas Longhorns is five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo. The Mansfield, TX blue chipper recently took an official visit to the 40 Acres, after cancelling an official visit to Oklahoma. Rivals analyst Sam Spiegelman has been covering Ojo's recruitment for months. Last week, he made a prediction that Ojo would end up at Texas. "There is a sense that Texas closed strong on this official visit and left a big enough impression on the elite OT ahead of his July commitment," Spiegelman said. "There is a strong sense that Ojo wont leave the state to play college football." Advertisement Ojo is participating in the elite Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Indianapolis, a camp for 100 of the best prospects in the nation. He gave Spiegelman an update on where things stand after having a week to digest is OV to Austin. "I'd really say Texas and Ohio State (lead). Really just the atmosphere. The culture. Not only that. The opportunity to play early. I'd really say those two schools have really been pushing me throughout the recruiting process. Those are ultimately the two schools that are the biggest factor in my recruitment right now." -- Felix Ojo Ojo says the winning atmosphere's of both Texas and Ohio State are what separates to two college football playoff semifinalists from the rest of the pack. "I would say the winning atmosphere of the programs. And also the development factor. (Texas offensive line) Coach (Kyle) Flood is one of the best in the business. He had two first rounders last year." -- Felix Ojo So how close is the race between the Buckeyes and the Longhorns? It's a dead heat. "I'd say right now with the race, I'd say it's pretty even. I'd say there's no clear cut leader right now. I'd say the decision will be made in the next couple of weeks. It really just depends." -- Felix Ojo So what will be the tiebreaker and when will the elite prospect announce his commitment? Soon, but there's a lot to think about. "Really just seeing where the best fit for me and my family is. Really seeing what the future has in store for me." -- Felix Ojo Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire. Elite WR commit Kohen Brown shuts down recruitment, sticking with Texas

Texas has been red hot on the recruiting trail over the last few weeks. Last weekend, they got a pledge from four-star wide receiver Kohen Brown. However, in this day and age of college football, the recruiting process continues until a player officially signs. A few days after his commitment, Brown canceled official visits to Notre Dame and Ole Miss. On Saturday, Brown let it be known that he isn't taking any more visits as he has shut down his recruitment and will remain with Texas. Advertisement Brown was once committed to USC. However, after he decommitted in May, Texas made him an offer six days later. In less than a month he took an official visit to Austin and that's all it took to get his commitment. The Longhorns have the No. 18 recruiting class at the moment per 247Sports with Brown still on board. They hosted a ton of prospects this weekend as well, so their ranking could improve soon. Texas surging with elite edge Jamarion Carlton after recent visit

Texas has picked a few huge commitments over the last week for their 2026 recruiting class as four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon and four-star defensive tackle Corey Wells made their pledges to the Longhorns. They have another blue-chipper in their sights as well and that's four-star edge Jamarion Carlton. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder named Texas in his top five schools last week and also set a July 10 commitment date. Carlton was back in Austin last weekend to see the Longhorns, and he got to take in a bunch of what the program has to offer and what they have in store if he commits. Advertisement "This official visit was amazing," Carlton told Rivals earlier this week. "Just to be able to chill with the players, get some good advice and then being able to know what plan they have for me. At Texas, the plan to develop me into reaching my highest potential as a player and as a person was great. The time with the players and the coaches was pretty fun." Carlton had a productive junior season for Temple High School. He amassed 57 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble. Rivals has Carlton ranked extremely high in their rankings. In addition to being the No. 46 overall prospect he's also the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Texas. Texas Tech hosted Carlton at the end of April and LSU in May. He still has official visits to Texas A&M and Baylor before he commits, so last weekend was immensely important for Texas and their chances to land Carlton. Advertisement After spending time with players on the Longhorns roster as well as edge coach LaAllan Clark, Carlton can envision himself playing in Austin. "I can see myself there," Carlton said. If Texas can snag Carlton, they'll inch closer toward a top 10 class for the 2026 cycle.
