RM55,000 fraud: Ex-bank teller claims trial to CBT, forgery charges
The accused, Mohd Abd Rahman Hamzah, 41, who is currently employed as a car salesman, entered his plea before Judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini.
According to the charge sheets, the offences were allegedly committed at the bank's Kuala Nerang branch in the Padang Terap district between April and June 2022.
Four of the charges pertain to CBT under Section 408 of the Penal Code, in which Abd Rahman is accused of dishonestly withdrawing and misappropriating a total of RM55,000 from the Akademi Al-Quran dan Dakwah Ummah's bank account without authorisation.
The remaining four charges, framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code, relate to the alleged use of falsified withdrawal forms as genuine documents. These offences are punishable under Section 465 of the same Act.
The transactions in question involved two withdrawals of RM10,000, as well as withdrawals of RM15,000 and RM20,000 — all from the same account.
If convicted, the CBT charges carry a prison sentence of between one and 14 years, whipping, and a fine. The forgery charges carry a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Deputy public prosecutor Vatchira Wong Rui Fern appeared for the prosecution. The accused was unrepresented.
Wong proposed bail of RM20,000 for each charge, but the accused appealed for a lower amount, citing full cooperation during the investigation and financial hardship.
He informed the court that he earned RM1,000 a month as a car salesman and supports his wife, two children, and his ailing mother.
The court set bail at RM28,000 for all charges combined and fixed June 15 for mention.

OKU cardholder fined RM1,800 for causing hurt to 11-year-old boy
SEREMBAN: A 36-year-old woman who holds a person with disabilities (OKU) card has been fined RM1,800 after pleading guilty to a charge of causing hurt to an 11-year-old boy. The accused did not contest the charge after it was read to her before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti on Thursday (July 17). The fine was imposed in default three months' jail. She was accused of committing the offence at a grocery store in Mantin at around 12.30pm on Tuesday (July 15). ALSO READ: Cops detain woman for assaulting, threatening 11-year-old boy in Mantin She was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code with voluntarily causing hurt to the victim by stepping on his face and legs. Offenders can be jailed for up to one year or fined up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Fidha Misjedi asked the court to impose a punishment commensurate with the offence, as the victim was a young boy. She said pleading guilty did not automatically mean the accused was entitled to a lenient sentence. The accused, who was represented by a lawyer from the Legal Aid Department, pleaded for leniency as she had no source of income, was unmarried, and had mental health issues. Police detained the accused after the victim's mother lodged a report claiming that her son had been beaten and threatened by the suspect. Nilai OCPD Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the incident was captured by the store's CCTV system. The suspect, he said, was said to have been experiencing hallucinations at the time and suspected the victim of shoplifting, although there was no evidence for that.

Gravedigger charged with sexually assaulting 9-year-old boy
TAIPING: A gravedigger was charged in the Sessions Court here today with sexually abusing a nine-year-old boy last Friday. The accused, Muhammed Syahril Reza Omar, 43, who is also a single father of three, pleaded not guilty before Judge Nabisha Ibrahim and requested to be tried. According to the charge sheet, he is accused of committing physical sexual assault on the boy by kissing his face and neck with sexual intent. The alleged incident took place in the women's toilet at Masjid Jamek Taman Yayasan, Kamunting, at 12.30pm on July 11. The offence falls under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping, upon conviction. The prosecution was led by Assistant Superintendent Shabani Bahari, while Syed Saifullizan Syed Abd Razak from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) represented the accused. Shabani proposed bail at RM30,000, with additional conditions that the accused must not approach, contact, or harass the victim — who is not related to him — and must report to the nearest police station once a month. Syed Saifullizan appealed for a reduced sum, citing the accused's limited income of RM400 a month from his gravedigger's allowance and the fact that he is a widower supporting three children aged 19, 14, and eight. The court allowed bail of RM8,000 with one surety, and imposed all additional conditions requested by the prosecution. The case has been fixed for mention on Aug 19 for case management and the appointment of legal counsel.

Teacher claims trial to sexually assaulting pupil, 10
SEREMBAN: A 53-year-old teacher claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to three charges of committing physical sexual assault against a 10-year-old female pupil. The accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam on Thursday (July 17). He was charged with committing the offences between 1pm and 1.30pm at the library of a school in Kuala Pilah on Jan 2 last year. The accused was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and caning if found guilty. Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni then told the court her team was seeking bail of RM20,000 for each of the three charges. She also asked the court to order the accused to stay away from the victim and prosecution witnesses, to report to the nearest police station once every month pending disposal of the case, and to surrender his passport to the court. Norazihah also told the court that the alleged victim was a student of the accused. Lawyer Ramzani Idris asked for a lower bail amount and said the accused has since been transferred to the district Education office in Kuala Pilah and would not have any contact with the victim. He said the accused had also been cooperative during police investigations. Judge Kamil then fixed bail at RM15,000 for each charge with one surety and allowed the other applications by the prosecution. Mention was set for Aug 18.
