Thane court sentences man to 10 years RI for sexual assault on 13-year-old girl

Upon her return, the girl informed her mother that the accused had persuaded her to accompany him to a friend's house.
The accused sexually assaulted the girl at his friend's house, and she managed to free herself and found her way back home.
The accused was also convicted under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Amendment Act, 2015, as the girl belongs to a Scheduled Caste community.
The court noted the consistency of the victim's account. "The evidence of victim is consistent on the point of penetrative sexual assault committed by the accused Prince with her in the room of other accused," it said.
The court dismissed Mishra's defence that the complaint was fabricated due to a disputed loan, finding no supporting documentary evidence.
The court also acquitted Mishra's friend, Akram Chand Khan, who was named co-accused, citing that he had no knowledge of the incident.
During sentencing, Mishra's counsel pleaded for leniency, citing his age and role as the sole earning member of his family and his five-year incarceration.
The judge, while acknowledging the accused's circumstances, said, "The act of sexual assault on the child is to be viewed seriously, and such offences are to be dealt with stringent manner."

He said Neetu alias Nasreen and her husband Naveen Rohra alias Jamaluudin and their minor daughter, who were originally Sindhis, were residents of Mumbai and they shifted to Balrampur after embracing Islam a few years ago. Naveen Rohra was arrested by UP ATS on charges of religious conversion on April 8 earlier this year. Hyderabad: The Punjagutta police on Friday registered a case of cheating against a former relationship manager of a private bank and others, following allegations by a retired United Nations official that she siphoned off his life savings, which were intended for cancer treatment. The 46-year-old victim, a resident of Kakatiya Nagar near Nanal Nagar, previously worked as an information management officer for the United Nations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. He resigned from service in April 2023 due to health issues. In his complaint, he alleged that Sanchita, then a relationship manager at a private bank in Somajiguda, convinced him in 2023 to invest in a private fund called 'True North,' promising monthly returns of five per cent. Trusting her advice, he transferred Rs 32.5 lakh to her through eleven bank transactions between August and December 2023. He further claimed that she coerced him into taking a personal loan of Rs 4.5 lakh, from which she immediately collected Rs 1.71 lakh, assuring him she would repay it in monthly instalments. However, after paying only three EMIs, she allegedly defaulted, leaving him with the full liability. Based on the complaint, Punjagutta police registered a case under Sections 408 (criminal breach of trust by a clerk) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Sanchita and others. 'As a cancer patient, I require a substantial sum for treatment. The accused's refusal to return my money has denied me access to proper care, and they are entirely responsible for my worsening health. As someone who is terminally ill, I seek justice from the police department,' the victim stated in his complaint. Punjagutta sub-inspector P Pradeep said the case is under investigation and no arrests have been made thus far.
