Coordinated effort under chief minister's plan
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved the action plan, which was discussed in a recent meeting chaired by the chief secretary. Key agencies involved include Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department, and Delhi Development Authority (DDA), officials added.

DDA to remove floodplain encroachments
Under the plan, the DDA has been instructed to clear all encroachments—including illegal nurseries, unauthorised structures, waste dumping, squatters, and farming—along Yamuna floodplains in east, northeast, and south Delhi by November. Officials noted that anti-encroachment drives often face resistance due to lack of formal demarcation of floodplain zones. A DDA survey last year claimed that nearly two‑thirds of these floodplain areas had been encroached in recent years.
Past achievements and ongoing duties
In recent years, the DDA has reclaimed 224 acres of floodplain land and developed public green spaces such as

The action plan also targets encroachments in drains feeding into the Yamuna. The MCD, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and DDA are tasked with clearing stormwater drain encroachments, while MCD and I&FC departments will address encroachments along drain alignments.
Comprehensive project consolidation
Projects related to Yamuna rejuvenation have been grouped under ten working heads, including drains, sewage, solid waste management, enhancement of ecological flow, and stricter enforcement, each with specific deadlines.

1 2 3 Cuttack: National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday issued notices to the Union ministry of environment, forests and climate change, Odisha govt and several officials over alleged illegal construction on forest land in Jajpur district. The petition, filed by Kailash Chandra Nayak of Nuadihi village under Danagadi tehsil, sought intervention against construction being carried out by the state govt on forest land in Danagadi and Sukinda blocks without mandatory approval under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980. The petitioner, represented by advocates Sankar Prasad Pani and Ashutosh Padhy, claimed these constructions are being carried out without any forest clearance from the Centre. A representation was submitted to the authorities on March 30, but no action has been taken so far, the petition claimed. According to the petition, massive concrete structures are being built using funds from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) with the approval of Jajpur district collector, who is also the managing trustee of DMF. It was alleged that on Nov 21, 2023, the collector issued a letter to the Sukinda BDO for constructing activity rooms in 132 primary schools at a cost of Rs 13.20 crore. The petition sought a halt on all non-forest activities being carried out on forest land without prior central approval and demanded that such constructions be declared illegal.

Brics Summit NEW DELHI: The Brics nations have rejected the European Union's proposed carbon border tax, or the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), calling it "unilateral, punitive and discriminatory protectionist measures", and said the move, being made "under the pretext of environmental concerns", would undermine their capacities to invest in just energy transitions and development priorities. India has long been opposed to such measures and even flagged its concerns during the recent free trade agreement talks with the EU. The concerns of the group of 11 nations, including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, over such trade barriers got reflected prominently in the 'Leaders' Framework Declaration on Climate Finance' adopted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday. The CBAM, to be implemented from next year, is a tool to impose border tax on carbon-intensive goods, such as iron & steel, aluminium and cement, that enter the 27 EU nations. DMK functionaries gherao minister in party event, refuse to allow him
Pudukottai: Tension prevailed for a while in the DMK's booth level agents (BLA) meeting in Pudukottai on Tuesday as party functionaries and cadres gheraoed DMK's principal secretary K N Nehru and refused to let him in. They demanded changes in the party's urban district unit leadership. In a similar event at a different location, functionaries expressed their dissatisfaction over the district-level leaders constantly sidelining the backward class welfare minister Siva V Meyyanathan, an MLA representing the Alangudi constituency in the district. Sources said that the BLA meeting for the north and south districts of Pudukottai DMK was conducted in two different wedding halls in the town. The meeting for the north district was organised by the district secretary K K Chellapandian and for the south district by the secretary and minister for natural resources S Regupathy.
