But one mum, Helen Alison, was recently left pleasantly surprised after snapping up a stunning dining room set - and you wouldn't be able to tell it cost her just £71.
The cash-savvy mum recently took to TikTok to show off the fabulous bargain buy - and fellow social media users were just as impressed.
The rustic set came with a rectangular table and four chairs, each boasting a darker wooden finish and black metal elements.
According to the only shopper, ''it was so easy to put up'' and the price, so far, hasn't reflected the high quality.

''No cave ins yet and my children think they're WWE wrestlers,'' she chuckled in the comments under the video.
Temu's version comes in hundreds of pounds cheaper than similar furniture from other retailers, such as B&Q where a dining set will set you back an eye-watering £409.
Meanwhile, Dunelm shoppers can expect to fork out an astronomical £ 399 - while store the Swedish giant IKEA charges around £659 for a similar version.
Helen, who is still in the process of renovating her kitchen, said: ''So I bought a kitchen table set off Temu.
''I paid £71 for a table and four chairs. Cheapest one I found that I actually liked. What do we think?
''Kitchen still needs finishing but I'm impressed.
I live in a council house with no storage & made a dream dressing table for £21… it's great for those with limited space
''It was so easy to put up as well and doesn't feel like it's going to cane in anytime soon.''
Raving about the cut-price marketplace, the delighted online shopper went on: ''Always only buy what I can afford and what I'm happy to return if it's no good.
''Just give it all a chance and I'm always pleasantly surprised.''
Why is Temu so cheap?
TEMU exploded onto the scene in late 2022, with people all over social media raving about the low prices.
The company is a Chinese-owned digital marketplace - essentially an online shopping app where people are connected to the retailer directly while the app takes care of the shipping element.
The frenzy over the app is not completely unfounded either as it offers a wide variety of products, including fashion, make-up, electronics and furniture.
According to a report from the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Temu takes advantage of a trade loophole that allows the company to ship duty-free goods directly to the US.
The loophole is called the de minimis exception and it means they can ship goods valued up to $800 (£643) to the US without it being inspected or taxed by US customs.
Temu connects customers directly to manufacturers and only manages how the items are sent to customers.
It means Chinese vendors can essentially sell their products directly to customers and ship it without building a network of warehouses across the globe.
By doing this, they cut down on huge costs and ensure the product itself isn't marked up extra.
While many of the products seen on the Temu app are from brands with extensive, original collections, many more are dupes of designer brands.
'Their furniture is actually decent'
The video, posted under the username @helenalisonnn, has clearly impressed many, as it's racked up over 44k views in just two days.
More than 180 people gave it a like, as others flooded to comments.
One person said: ''That looks so aesthetically pleasing.''
Another chimed in: ''Love a bit of Temu shopping, don't expect the best. I'm pleasantly pleased when it arrives and it's better then I thought.''
A third wrote: ''Looks good. But that's the worry with temu because you don't know what to expect.''
''Their furniture is actually decent,'' a fourth added.

Jacqueline Jossa showcases her slender frame in a rare TikTok video as she gives an update on her continuing financial issue with InTheStyle

Jacqueline Jossa showcased her slender frame in a rare TikTok video as she gave an update on her continuing issue with company InTheStyle. The mother-of-two, 32, looked incredible as she slipped into a butter yellow halter neck top which showcased her sun-kissed complexion and toned tummy. She paired her cropped garment with a some light blue figure-hugging jeans and a white casual handbag. For the clip, Jacqueline went bare foot as she shot the trendy clip from her lavish-looking kitchen. Jacqueline told the camera: 'I feel shy! I want to start doing videos again, like, get ready with me's. 'I want to go to Zara, River Island, that sort of thing, New Look, Primark, high street brands, and pick a few bits and show you what I get. Because I really, really miss doing the videos.' She then took a swipe at InTheStyle as she accused the fast fashion brand of still not giving her the money she is reportedly owed for her collaboration work– which was first reported back in March. 'I used to do my collections with 'you know who',' she said, singing out, 'that has still not paid me! But I do miss doing them [the videos]' 'It is nice also to, like, not have the collections, because they were going on for over four years, it did get a bit dry, so I feel like I've got my mojo back a little bit.' InTheStyle, who signed Jacqueline in a £1m deal five years ago collapsed into administration with £11m of debt. The fashion company was founded by Adam Frisby in 2013, but was acquired by UK-based private equity firm Baaj Capital for £1.2million in March 2023. Ben Armstrong became managing director in December 2023 when Adam stepped down from his position, but he has since left the business. Jacqueline's clip comes after she and her husband D n Osborne celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary, just months after reports emerged they had split. Back in March, it was reported that the EastEnders actress had separated from the former TOWIE star, 33. She then took a swipe at InTheStyle as she accused the fast fashion brand of still not giving her the money she is reportedly owed for her collaboration work– which was first reported back in March Despite reports of their marriage being 'over', the couple enjoyed a romantic break at a luxury London hotel to mark the milestone. Jacqueline took to her Instagram Story to show off their modern suite at the five-star Pan Pacific Hotel, complete with views of St Paul's Cathedral. She also shared a snap of her husband Dan gazing out the window at the London skyline. She captioned the post: 'Happy 8th wedding anniversary,' alongside an eyes welling up emoji and a love heart hand emoji. The actress also posted a photo of a large bouquet of pink flowers next to a personalised bottle of bubbly that read, 'Cheers to you beautiful.' In March, it was reported that Dan and Jacqueline's marriage was 'over' and that the couple were living separately after he 'betrayed' her and 'reignited old trust issues'. But all now seems to be well. The EastEnders star joined her spouse, 33, as he opened his own tanning shop in Essex on Saturday. Paradise Tanning and Beauty in Benfleet is reality star Dan's new business, which had a launch party. Taking to Instagram, he posted a series of photos from the party, with wife Jacqueline there to support him. The salon will be opening on Wednesday, with eagle-eyed fans excited to take a visit. Jacqueline took the time to wish her husband all the success in the world with his new venture, after he shared a sweet snap with their daughter Ella, to celebrate the opening.

Woman reprimanded by Disney World employee for her inappropriate outfit

A woman has hit out at Disney World after she was forced to buy a $45 (£32.85) t-shirt from the shop after a worker told her she couldn't go on one of the rides due to her outfit A trip to Disney World turned unexpectedly sour for one woman after she was reprimanded by park staff for her outfit choice that she insisted was completely innocent. Nicole Arena, who visited the Epcot park with her husband in June, took to TikTok to share her frustration after she says she was told she couldn't board a ride she had queued for an hour unless she purchased a new top. ‌ Nicole had been wearing a sports bra and leggings - an outfit she says she frequently wears to the gym and for running errands - when she was stopped by a Disney employee for not being 'properly dressed' for the theme park's family-friendly dress code. ‌ 'Was so happy to be here that I didn't realise I was 'improperly dressed' and would be forced to buy a $45 (£32.85) t-shirt or else I could not get on the ride,' she wrote in overlay text on a selfie with her husband from inside the park. In a follow-up post, she revealed the exact outfit in question, insisting it was far from scandalous. 'I had nothing showing other than my stomach and my arms,' she said. 'But you guys are acting like I went out naked.' Nicole acknowledged that she hadn't checked the dress code in advance and said she simply dressed for comfort in the Florida heat. 'Anyone who goes to the gym knows it's totally fine to walk around with a sports bra and leggings on,' she added. 'I just went to Disney how I would go to the gym.' ‌ Her videos sparked a debate online. Some sided with Disney staff, arguing that the park's family-friendly image calls for a more conservative approach to dress. 'It's a bra. Of course, you can't wear it to a family park. Be so for real,' one commenter wrote. Another added, 'Disney and the gym are two different places. A bra goes under shirts in family-friendly establishments.' Others pointed out the importance of checking guidelines before entering a theme park. ‌ 'Why would you go somewhere and not check the dress code? That doesn't make sense. You're going where there are children,' a user commented. But a number of viewers sympathised with Nicole's experience, with some noting that she had handled the situation gracefully. 'I'm a Disney person. Your explanation and acknowledgment of not knowing the dress code is more than enough,' one user wrote. ‌ 'It's hot in Florida. They are sensitive about outfits that look too close to the characters too! I hope you had a great time!' The controversy emerged just as Disney World announced a formal dress code for one of its upcoming upscale restaurants. Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina will require patrons to wear 'clean, neat, and in good condition' attire that fits the restaurant's sophisticated atmosphere. Swimwear and clothing with offensive graphics or language are not permitted.
