Nearly seven months after CBS' long-running Blue Bloods aired its series finale, franchise vet Donnie Wahlberg RSVP'd for the first table read for Boston Blue, the 'universe expansion' announced back in February.

Wahlberg flew into Toronto, Ontario — Boston Blue's production base — the other night, sharing on Instagram, 'A new day. A new city. A new opportunity. A new adventure. The same gratitude.'
The morning after, he snapped a pic from the first Boston Blue table read, where he was seated next to leading lady Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery).
'A new chapter,' he wrote, adding a (Boston?) blue heart emoji.
The offshoot's pilot is penned by showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, and will be directed by Anthony Hemingway (whose myriad TV credits include Major Crimes, Shameless and Starz's Power Universe).
Ordered to series on Feb. 18, Boston Blue finds Wahlberg's Detective Danny Reagan leaving New York City and his family to take a position with the Boston PD. There, he will be partnered with Martin-Green's Detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
The cast also includes Gloria Reuben (ER) as Mae Silver, family matriarch and Boston's District Attorney; Ernie Hudson (NBC's Quantum Leap reboot) as Lena's grandfather, Reverend Peters, a renowned pastor of a historic Baptist church in Boston; Maggie Lawson (Psych) as Boston PD Superintendent Sarah Silver, Lena's 'strong-willed' and 'decisive' stepsister; and Marcus Scribner (black-ish) as Jonah, Lena and Sarah's rookie cop brother.

Donnie Wahlberg's 'Blue Bloods' Spinoff Recasts His Son After Original Actor's 14-Season Run
A key role from Blue Bloods has been confirmed to return for the Boston Blue spinoff, but a new actor will be taking it on Sean Reagan — the youngest son of Donnie Wahlberg's character, Danny Reagan — will be on the upcoming spinoff series, but he won't be played by Andrew Terraciano The role has been recast with Mika Amonsen now play Wahlberg's TV sonThe first of what might be many shakeups has arrived for Donnie Wahlberg's Blue Bloods spinoff. Boston Blue will see Wahlberg reprise his role as Danny Reagan in a brand-new city as he brings his New York City experience to Boston, and one member of his family is confirmed to be joining him in the relocation. However, it's a different face than fans are used to. Andrew Terraciano played Danny's younger son Sean Reagan for all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, but he will not return in the spinoff. Instead, Mika Amonsen has been cast as Sean in what will be a series regular role, PEOPLE can confirm. Sean was still in high school in the Blue Bloods finale, but it seems he might be aged up a bit in the spinoff. Amonsen's version of the character will see Sean as a patrolman for the Boston police department, where he will be committed to following in his family's legacy but on his own terms. With Danny also deciding to stay in Boston in the new series, he has a "chance to reconnect on a deeper level" with his younger son. The cast will also include Sonequa Martin-Green as Lena Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters. While the 22-year-old has not spoken out following the recasting news, he did reflect on his decade-plus as Sean Reagan as the CBS series wrapped up.
