Vidyut Jammwal Lands Role of Dhalsim in Legendary's "Street Fighter" Movie
Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal (Commando) has landed the role of Dhalsim in Legendary's live-action "Street Fighter" movie, based on the video games from Capcom.
The project marks the Hollywood debut of an actor who has been deliberate about the project with which he wants to introduce himself in the U.S. market.
First introduced in "Street Fighter II" in 1991, Dalsim is a yogi with fire-spitting abilities — a fundamentally peaceful man who fights to support his family.
The Street Fighter cast also includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.
Plot details for the film, from director Kitao Sakurai, remain under wraps.
Launched in 1987, "Street Fighter" is a series of fighting games revolving around intense one-on-one battles between a diverse cast of martial artists, organized by the villainous M. Bison as a global fighting tournament.
It have sold over 55 million units worldwide since launch, making the franchise one of the most well-known and highest-grossing of all time.
Known for roles in a dozen blockbusters in India, including the Commando and Khuda Haafiz franchises, Jammwal boasts 22M followers across social media and is well known in India, even as he's still looking to build his profile in the United States.

The Last of Us" Season 3 Release Window
Yara Sameh "The Last of Us" might be Emmy-nominated, but it'll take a while before the show graces HBO screens again. In a conversation with Variety , HBO CEO Casey Bloys dropped more information about "The Last of Us" future and how long it will take to adapt the rest of "The Last of Us Part II". "The series is definitely planned for 2027," Bloys said regarding season 3's release date, though he revealed showrunner Craig Mazin "is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn't been decided yet, and I'm following Craig's lead on that." Unlike the previous seasons, Mazin will be the sole showrunner going into season 3, with Neil Druckmann and writer Halley Gross -- who co-wrote Part II's story with Druckmann -- announcing they will step away from the show earlier this month. According to Bloys, this decision was a result of Druckmann having to prioritize his commitment as co-president of the game company Naughty Dog, stating, "A lot of people don't realize that Neil has a full time job creating video games and running Naughty Dog. It's a really big job that he's got. So I understand why he needs to focus on that. But I believe he's given us a good blueprint with the show. And obviously Craig is a pro, so I think we'll be in excellent shape. I'm not worried at all." Druckmann's next project is the upcoming sci-fi game "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet," whose cast features "The Last of Us" Tati Gabrielle and Tony Dalton in lead and supporting roles. Compared to season 1's reception, "The Last of Us" season 2 earned more mixed-to-positive reviews, with notable criticism being directed at the later episodes' pacing and slight tweaks to how the story played out compared to its source material. Despite this, the series has been nominated for 16 awards at this year's Emmys, including Best Actor and Actress for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and multiple guest actor/actress nominations for its supporting cast. The show's nomination count was outdone by "Severance," "The Penguin," "The Studio," and "The White Lotus," with Apple TV+'s hit sci-fi thriller walking away with 27 nominations, "Penguin" getting 24, and "The Studio" and "The White Lotus" matching each other with 23. Keeping in line with Part II's big twist, "The Last of Us" ended with a dramatic confrontation between Ellie (Ramsey) and Joel's killer Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) before flashing back three days to revisit the season's back half from Abby's perspective. Nick Frost Transforms into Hagrid in New Look at HBO's "Harry Potter" Series
Yara Sameh Fresh off HBO's announcement that its upcoming 'Harry Potter' series has officially begun production — and the debut of newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter — the network has revealed the first image of Nick Frost as the lovable half-giant. The 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz' actor follows in the footsteps of Robbie Coltrane, who played Hogwarts' gamekeeper and groundskeeper in all eight of the 'Harry Potter' films. The young golden trio were selected from more than 30,000 actors who auditioned in a casting call last fall. The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge. Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley and Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley. Additional names revealed on Monday were Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. The series will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max where available and is led by showrunner and writer Francesca Gardiner ('His Dark Materials,' 'Killing Eve') and director Mark Mylod ('Succession'). Gardiner and Mylod are executive producing alongside series author J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films. Mena Massoud Talks His First Egyptian Film, Challenges of Crossing over from Hollywood to the Middle East
Yara Sameh 'Aladdin' star Mena Massoud, who is a Canadian actor of Egyptian heritage, recently starred in — and produced — his first Arabic-language film 'Fi Ez El Dohr' (In Broad Daylight). In the action movie, he plays an Egyptian expatriate Hamza El Kashef who returns to his country as the enigmatic leader of an international crime syndicate. Directed by Morcous Adel, 'In Broad Daylight' recently went on release in Egypt and other territories in the region, marking a rare attempt by a Hollywood actor to break out in the Arab film industry — a process Massoud describes as 'doing Omar Sharif in reverse,' referencing the 'Lawrence of Arabia' star who was the first Egyptian actor to cross over to Hollywood. Below, Massoud – whose credits also include Prime Video's 'Hotel for the Holidays,' Netflix's 'The Royal Treatment' and the Hulu series 'Reprisal' – opened up to Variety about the challenges of going from Hollywood to Cairo where 'Fi Ez El Dohr' performed below expectations. This film has a special significance since it brought you back to Egypt, where you were born. How did it come together and what has it meant to you? I immigrated to Canada when I was 3, and pretty quickly when you're an immigrant, you try to find ways to stay close to your roots. For my parents, a big part of that meant continuing to watch Egyptian cinema and theater and TV. I grew up on Egyptian cinema before I ever watched anything from Hollywood; I fell in love with the arts through Egyptian cinema. So being able to go back and do something in Egypt was just a dream come true. What was it like for you to act in Arabic? I know you are fluent, but I heard you had to tweak your accent. I had to turn on my brain in a completely different way and tune my muscles in a completely different way, which is an incredible feeling. I don't know a lot of people who get to experience that. But it really rocks your world, because you've got to really just depend on your talent. A big part of your brain is focusing so much on the words coming out in a different language and in a different accent. So you've got to kind of rely on everything that you've learned from an acting perspective to to come through. What it was like to promote the film in Egypt, starting with the launch in Cairo? Regarding the premiere, it was very similar to what I've done anywhere else. I kind of went through the same process as an actor. I got my styling done for it and media prep for it and all that kind of stuff. We did a press junket day. The premiere was fantastic. We did it at the Mall of Egypt, which is one of the most iconic malls there. So it went really, really well. I really loved the process. In a way, there was even more media coverage than I'm used to. So that was fantastic. And it's been doing well, I think, for my first film in Egypt. I can't complain. How has the film been doing in the region? What I'm trying to do is like what someone like Steven Yeun ('Minari') is trying to do — it's very difficult to go back to your home country and try to break into the industry there. It's difficult, because you're going to have a lot of the country that are following Hollywood and know you and are proud of you and what you represent. But Egypt is a country with 120 million people. So you're going to get tens of millions of people that you still haven't tapped into, that are hearing your name for the first time. They are seeing you on billboards for the first time. And so it's kind of a marketing puzzle in that sense, because they've probably heard of 'Aladdin,' but maybe they haven't seen it. So how do you navigate that? I think it's a great first building block for me if I want to continue to work there, which I do. It's just the first step. And how do you build on that? One way I've been approaching that, for example, is my TikTok. I mean, if you go on my TikTok it's basically just Arabic content. I've kind of designated my TikTok just for Egypt. I don't know if it's the right thing to do, but it's what I've decided to do, and this approach seems like it's been helping. So, it's difficult.
