Tragedy as fourth body in three days found by bottom of cliffs at popular beauty spot

A FOURTH body has been found by the bottom of a beauty spot cliff in just three days. North Yorkshire Police's coastal team said the woman's body was found at Sandsend, near Whitby. 1 The force added that the woman was aged and in her 50s and from the local area. She was spotted at 11.01am by a passerby who called emergency services. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner. The victim's family are being supported by specialist officers. It comes after cops yesterday launched an investigation into the sudden death of a woman in her 60s at a popular seaside beauty spot on July 31. While a day before, a man and a woman, both understood to be in their 40s, died after falling from the cliffs at Whitby. Her body was found below cliffs at Whitby Abbey in North Yorks., yesterday - hours after a couple allegedly leapt to their deaths in the same area. Her death comes after a man and a woman, both understood to be in their 40s, died after falling from the cliffs at Whitby on July 30, as well as another woman, aged in her 60s, who was found by the cliffs near the pavillion on July 31. The latter two victims reportedly chatted to fellow walkers before allegedly leaping to their deaths hand-in-hand from the same cliffs. Their bodies were recovered from the rocks below the drop on Wednesday evening following the apparent suicide pact. Police are not linking this latest death to the alleged double suicide, which North Yorkshire Police continue to investigate. Brian Vickers, 63, who was attending a nearby steam rally, said: 'I saw the helicopter hovering and came down to see what was going on. 'I was told from somebody who has been walking along the path that he had come across them shortly before and they did not appear to be in distress. 'It was as if they were just going for a walk, there was nothing strange about it. 'About a dozen people witnessed it. They turned to face the sea and held hands and jumped." A member of the public alerted the police at 7.16pm on Wednesday after spotting a man and woman on the rocks below.

Girl, 8, suffers horrific bite wounds to her face in dog attack while playing outside gran's house

AN EIGHT-year-old girl suffered horrific bite wounds to her face after she was attack by a mystery dog while playing in her gran's garden. Animal-loving Kayla Watson was rushed to hospital after the "scruffy" dog ran up unprovoked and clamped its jaws around her cheek. 3 Her mum Jade O'Hara told how Kayla tried to "shoo" the animal away before it ferociously attacked her. Kayla was left covered in blood and screaming in terror during the school holiday attack. She was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny for treatment. Jade said: "It all happened so quickly and as a mum it was a nightmare, I was so scared. "My daughter loves all pets, but is particularly obsessed with dogs, so it wasn't unusual for her to want to pet a dog, particularly as we have a really sweet baby of a dog at home that adores her. "She was just playing outside and then I saw this black and white scruffy type dog just come out of nowhere and start barking incessantly at her. "When she went to shoo it away, it latched itself onto her cheek and wouldn't let go. "I immediately ran over to them and tried to get the dog off her. I eventually had to kick the dog to make it get off. "It all happened so fast and I was so scared. We've never experienced anything like that with dogs before. I found Kayla on the floor, screaming, holding her cheek. "I originally thought it had got her eye or another part of her face, but when I managed to get Kayla to take her hand away, there was blood running all down her cheek and it was going everywhere. "There was even a toothmark of about half a centimetre." Jade has been trying to track down the dog's owner so it can be reported to police - but fears it may be a stray. She said: "I wanted to find it so we could report it to the police. "It's just horrible always having these what ifs when something like this happens, and I laid awake at night worried about Kayla and what could have happened. "Kayla loves dogs and is always so aware of asking owners to touch, so having this happen to her is just awful. "I keep thinking why was this dog around here, why did it come onto our property, why did it go for my daughter? "What if it had been a younger or smaller child? "We've both been left really traumatised and terrified over this. "I want to raise community awareness of the dog because we have no idea where it is now and don't want this to happen to anyone else." A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a dog attack at around 3.20pm on Saturday 26 July. "It was reported that a medium sized black dog – potentially a stray or lost – bit an eight-year-old girl in Queens Square, Tredegar between 1.30pm and 1.45pm that day. "The girl was taken to hospital for treatment. "Enquiries are ongoing to identify the owner of the dog and anyone with information is asked to contact us quoting log reference 2500238460."

The 20-year-old, who attended the EF International Language Campuses Cambridge, was assaulted and later pronounced dead on Friday evening. Police were called to Mill Park in Cambridge at 11.27pm on Friday as witnesses described hearing 'screaming'. On Saturday, Cambridgeshire Police said a 21-year-old man from Cambridge had been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 50-year-old man, also from the city, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both men remain in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station. EF International Language Campuses Cambridge said it understood the attack was 'carried out by a member of the public in an isolated incident'. EF International Language Campuses Cambridge told The Telegraph: 'We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our adult students was fatally injured last night in a public space. 'Emergency services responded immediately, but the student tragically passed away. 'We are working closely with the local police, who are investigating the incident and have confirmed they made arrests. 'The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. We are providing support to all students and staff affected by this tragic event and have organised counselling sessions. 'Our thoughts are with the student's loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we have offered our full support. 'We will not be commenting further while the investigation is ongoing.'
