Sub-Registrar faces suspension following graft charges in Puducherry
Special Secretary (Revenue) cum District Collector A. Kulothungan has issued an order on June 20 suspending R. Sriganth, Assistant on deputation as Sub-Registrar (Rural) in the Registration Department, with immediate effect. The order stated that since disciplinary proceeding was contemplated against Mr. Sriganth, the officer has been placed under suspension.
Mr. Kulothungan has issued the suspension order on the basis of powers conferred under sub-rule (1) of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965. As per the order, the suspended officer has to remain stationed in Puducherry and was not allowed to leave the region without prior permission of the District Collector.
According to sources, the disciplinary action was contemplated after a video of Mr. Sriganth allegedly taking bribe inside the Registration Department Office at Saram surfaced recently. In the video, he was seen taking money and telling a person that he would give clearance to some application on a particular date.
An aggrieved person had also filed a complaint against the officer with the Lieutenant Governor. Mr. Sriganth, who joined as an Assistant in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, has been working as Sub-Registrar in the Registration Department for a long time. In fact, he was transferred early June itself after the Lt. Governor issued a direction not to post Assistants on deputation in the Registration Department, a source said.
'He was transferred on June 1 and the particular video that surfaced on social media platforms showing the officer taking bribe was taken a few weeks ago. But even after his transfer to the parent department, he was visiting the Registration Department,' a source in the department said.
Vigilance Probe
Immediately after the suspension order was issued, the department has referred the case to the Vigilance unit for a detailed probe. 'We have launched a preliminary inquiry and based on the outcome, we will take up the case to its next level,' said a police officer.
In the recent months, several officers, including those at the level of Director, Sub-Registrar and Tahsildar have been arrested on various charges, including corruption and forgery. Criminal action was taken against some of these officers for even forging temple lands.

'The committee is authorised to seek assistance from any person as deemed necessary for conducting the inquiry and submit the report to the Higher Education Department,' the order said. Earlier, the Balasore Police arrested the accused in the self-immolation attempt case. According to Balasore SP Raj Prasad, the police have established prima facie evidence against the teacher who was involved in the self-immolation case of the female student. The victim had lodged a complaint with the Internal Compliance Committee on June 30. 'In the case of a female student who attempted self-immolation, prima facie evidence has been established against a teacher. He has been arrested and forwarded to the court. This student had lodged a complaint with the Internal Compliance Committee on 30th June. We are enquiring about the findings of their report. Whoever is found guilty, accountability will be fixed for them,' he said. The Higher Education Department of the Odisha government on Saturday suspended the Assistant Professor and Principal of FM (Auto) College, following the self-immolation attempt of the college student. 'The government has contemplated that the matter has not been handled properly by Dillip Kumar Ghose. He has failed to perform his duties in the capacity of Principal of the college. He is hereby placed under suspension under sub-rule (2) of rule 12 of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1962, with immediate effect', the letter said. (ANI)

FSDA suspends 133 drug licences, cancels 20 in June
Bengaluru: Enforcement officers of the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration department have suspended 133 drug licences and cancelled 20 drug licences in June for violations of the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, officials said on Friday. The move was initiated after the officials concerned conducted 2,544 inspections over the last month, they said. According to the department, drug-testing laboratories in Bengaluru, Hubballi and Ballari analysed 1,333 samples in June. Among those, 1,292 samples were declared as 'Standard Quality' and 41 as 'Not of Standard Quality'. From April to June, the enforcement officers filed a total of 81 cases in courts against firms that violated the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Rules thereunder, the department said. The department has ensured that 'Not of Standard Quality' drugs worth more than Rs 40 lakh were recalled from the market and seized. A special drive was conducted across the blood centres in the state and a total of 122 such centres were inspected. Based on the various violations observed, show-cause notices were issued to 44 blood centres and compliance letters were issued to 80 blood centres,' the department said in a statement. According to the statement, in compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, food safety, quality and hygiene aspects were inspected across the state, covering 1,557 street-food vendors, in June. Notices were issued to 406 establishments where violations were identified and fines totalling Rs 44,500 were imposed on the spot, the statement added.
