He issued the directive during a progress review meeting held at Deputy Commissioner's office here on Thursday.
Highlighting the district's rainfall data, he said while Mandya typically receives 150.2mm of rainfall during this season, it already received 260.1mm between March and May 28. The recent heavy rains caused damage to 28 houses over the past two days.
Relief efforts are underway through the district's compensation system to support affected families.
Control rooms have been established at both district and taluk levels. Meetings of the district disaster management authority were conducted to issue guidelines and ensure inter-departmental coordination.
To mitigate risks during the monsoon, the administration is installing warning boards near vulnerable areas, including overflowing bridges, rivers and streams. Based on historical data, 112 flood-prone villages have been identified, and necessary safety equipment has been readied.
Care centres in these regions have also been designated. All relevant departments have been instructed to clear silt from drains and canals, and to inspect and repair electricity poles and transformers where necessary.
Providing an overview of crop insurance coverage, the secretary said between 2019 and 2024, a total of 3,33,988 applications were submitted, and compensation totalling Rs 8,327.7 lakh was disbursed to 1,93,780 beneficiaries.
Kumar also said the fisheries department devise a plan to provide auto-rickshaws for fish vendors and explore opportunities to expand the fish market.

Watch: Rs 422-crore Patna double-deck flyover sinks after heavy rainfall; structure was inaugurated just 2 months ago

The Rs 422 crore flyover sunk after heavy rainfall in Patna NEW DELHI: A section of Patna's newly constructed double‑deck flyover has reportedly sunk following persistent heavy rainfall, raising fresh safety concerns over the infrastructure. The structure was built at a cost of Rs 422 crore. It was inaugurated by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on June 11, 2025 and spans the congested Ashok Rajpath corridor — ANI (@ANI) Patna has suffered heavy rainfall over the past few days, causing severe flooding across major areas, including Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Exhibition Road and Gandhi Maidan. Waterlogging has disrupted daily life—roads, homes, hospitals and schools were inundated, with sewage overflow, traffic chaos, and local collapse of drainage infrastructure. The relentless rains have overwhelmed poor drainage systems, leading to disruptions in daily life and prompting worry over affected infrastructure, including the flyover.. The double-deck flyover has two levels. The upper deck is 2,175.5 metres long and carries traffic from Gandhi Maidan to Science College. The lower deck is 1,449.3 metres long and helps vehicles move from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan, near BN College. Both decks, each 8.5 metres wide, connect to PMCH and are meant to reduce traffic jams in the city. Officials said Ashok Rajpath will soon have four levels—two flyover tiers, a ground-level service road, and the upcoming metro underground.

179 Killed In Monsoon Fury In Himachal, Mandi, Kullu, Chambal Remain Worst-Hit

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the devastating impact of the monsoon season, with severe disruptions across vital public utilities and a mounting death count. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Himachal Pradesh, a total of 179 people have lost their lives since June 20, including 101 in rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, and 78 in road accidents attributed to treacherous weather conditions. As of the evening of August 3, the disaster has rendered 296 roads impassable, 134 power distribution transformers out of service, and 266 water supply schemes disrupted, highlighting the widespread infrastructural damage caused by torrential rains across the hill state. Among the worst-hit districts are Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba, which together account for a major share of road blockages and public service breakdowns. National Highway-505 in Lahaul-Spiti also remains closed due to landslides and flash floods, cutting off vital access routes. The SDMA report noted that the cumulative damage to public property, including roads, power lines, water systems, health infrastructure, and schools, exceeds Rs 1,71,495 lakh, with over 88,800 hectares of crops affected, primarily in agriculture and horticulture. Officials are working round-the-clock to restore access and resume services, but continuous rainfall and terrain instability are hampering rescue and relief operations. The SDMA has advised residents to remain alert, avoid travel in vulnerable zones, and adhere to weather advisories as more rains are forecast in the coming days.
