Former Miss India Ruhii Singh To Star In Milap Zaveri's Masti 4, Begins Comic Timing Prep
Ruhii Singh joins Masti 4 as the lead opposite Aftab Shivdasani. The actress is sharpening her comic timing for the Milap Zaveri comedy. Shoot begins in London soon.
Actor and former Miss India Ruhii Singh is all set to bring her lively spirit and 'goofy" side to the silver screen, having joined the cast of Masti 4—the fourth installment in Bollywood's long-running, beloved adult comedy franchise. The film, helmed by Milap Zaveri and produced by Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria under the Maruti International banner, promises a fresh dose of laughs, outrageous antics, and all the chaos fans have come to expect from the Masti universe.
This marks a significant milestone for Ruhii, who plays one of the three female leads opposite Aftab Shivdasani, with whom she shares the screen for the first time. Determined to deliver a pitch-perfect performance, Ruhii has dived deep into preparation—particularly focusing on sharpening her comic timing and building authentic rhythm with the script.
In a candid statement, Ruhii said, 'I'm watching lots of comedy films and works of legendary comedy actors like Melissa McCarthy, Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, Paresh Rawal, Tina Fey, etc., to understand their comic timing and the art better. I'm also working closely with my acting teacher, Abhay Joshi from the National School of Drama, on the script and my scenes. I'm very excited and looking forward to performing with preparation."
While Ruhii is often recognised for her glamorous roles and confident screen presence, this opportunity to tap into a full-blown comedy marks a new, exciting chapter in her acting journey. Her selection also feels like a natural progression—she is, after all, the brand ambassador of the Indian Comic Association, and those close to her often describe her as delightfully 'goofy" in real life.
'Masti is amongst the biggest fun franchises in India," she said. 'To be in a space that has previously seen such brilliant talent is an honour. I feel blessed to be one among them. To say I am excited to start shooting soon is an understatement. Thank you, Milap Zaveri, for the big thumbs up."
The Masti series, which began in 2004, redefined adult comedy in Bollywood. The original film featured the iconic trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani, alongside female leads such as Amrita Rao, Genelia D'Souza, and Tara Sharma. With its rib-tickling humour and outrageous escapades, it became an instant cult favourite.
Masti 2 (Grand Masti) followed in 2013, and Masti 3 (Great Grand Masti) hit theatres in 2016. Each installment introduced new female leads—Karishma Tanna, Sonalee Kulkarni, Manjari Fadnis, Mishti, Pooja Bose, and Shraddha Das—who brought freshness to the franchise's recurring themes of friendship, mischief, and misunderstood relationships.
Now, nearly a decade later, Masti 4 is all set to revive the franchise with a new storyline, bigger production scale, and a vibrant cast that promises to blend nostalgia with novelty.
Production for Masti 4 is already in motion. In December 2024, Aftab Shivdasani began filming and shared several behind-the-scenes glimpses on social media. One photo showed him holding a clapboard marked 'Masti 4,' while another featured him posing with co-star Riteish Deshmukh. Bollywood veteran Jeetendra also made an appearance during the shoot's commencement, posing warmly with the cast and crew.
Although Vivek Oberoi wasn't present at the launch, he posted a humorous video from the set, featuring Riteish, and teased his return to the franchise. '#Masti4 is now officially a love story—the bromance begins!" he quipped. '20 years of madness since the first one! Sorry I couldn't make it for the launch boys @milapzaveri @riteishd @aftabshivdasani. Will see you at the shoot super soon!"
Milap Zaveri, known for his flair for commercial entertainers, seems poised to inject new energy into the franchise while retaining its signature irreverent tone. Joining forces with Waveband Productions' A Jhunjhunwala and SK Ahluwalia, Masti 4 aims to be a laugh riot with a new-age twist.
Ruhii Singh is set to fly to London by the end of this month to begin filming. The international schedule hints at a more expansive, visually grand setting for this installment, with a cast that is geared up to create comic magic once again.

Anupam Kher recalls clash with Aamir Khan during Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin shoot
Actor Anupam Kher, who will soon be seen in 'Metro... In Dino', recently opened up about a past disagreement with Aamir Khan during the making of 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin'. He shared an incident from the film's climax that caused a rift between the two to Times Now, Anupam recalled, 'In the climax of 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin', the father tells his daughter to run away from the wedding. The moment was very exaggerated. I was fully ready to portray it, but Aamir Khan complained to Mukesh Bhatt sahab about my interpretations. He found it wrong and different. Bhatt sahab added fuel to the matter and told me about Aamir's comment."advertisementHe further shared how he responded to the criticism, saying, 'I am the gold medallist from the National School of Drama. I used an English phrase for Aamir Khan to shut him down. Aamir was upset with me throughout the film. He was at that stage of becoming Aamir Khan, which he wanted to become. All my love for him. I think Hindi film actors are much greater actors than people from the West because we do the most unconvincing things convincingly and convince 1.4 billion people.' 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin', released in 1991, starred Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt in lead roles, marking Pooja's first major appearance on the big screen. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the film was a remake of the 1934 Hollywood classic 'It Happened One Night' and became a box office success. Anupam Kher, Sameer Chitre, Tiku Talsania, and Deepak Tijori also played key roles in the romantic upcoming film, 'Metro In Dino', directed by Anurag Basu, is a sequel to 'Life in a Metro'. The ensemble cast includes Neena Gupta, Ali Fazal, Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Pankaj Tripathi. Anupam Kher recalls shutting down Aamir Khan on Dil He Ke Manta Nahin sets ‘with an English phrase': ‘He complained to Mahesh Bhatt'
Anupam Kher and Aamir Khan have most famously worked in three films — Indra Kumar's Dil (1990), Yash Chopra's Parampara (1993), and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991). At the time of filming the Mahesh Bhatt directorial, Aamir was on the cusp of becoming a superstar, having already delivered hits like Mansoor Khan's Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Dil. Kher feels that's probably why Aamir had a disagreement with him on the sets of Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, while filming the climax. 'In the climax of Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, the father tells his daughter to run away from the wedding. The moment was very exaggerated,' recalled Kher, who played Seth Dharamchand, father to the bride, played by Pooja Bhatt. 'I was fully ready to portray it, but Aamir Khan complained to Mahesh Bhatt saab about my interpretation. He found it wrong and different. Bhatt saab added fuel to the matter and told me about Aamir's comment. I used an English phrase for Aamir Khan to shut him down,' added Kher, who wanted to remind Aamir he's a gold medallist from the National School of Drama, unlike Aamir who isn't a trained actor. 'Aamir was upset with me throughout the film. He was at that stage of becoming Aamir Khan, which he wanted to become. All my love for him,' said Kher. Aamir gained more popularity right after Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin with Mansoor's 1994 cult college caper Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar the following year. Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin marked the first time Aamir worked with Mahesh Bhatt. They followed it up with the 1993 romantic comedy Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. Meanwhile, Bhatt gave Kher his big break in Bollywood with his 1984 relationship drama Saaransh. Post that, they collaborated for Janam (1985), Kaash (1987), Thikana (1987), Kabzaa (1988), Daddy (1989), Awaargi (1990), Gumrah (1993), Tadipaar (1993), Papa Kahte Hain (1996), and Chaahat (1996). In a new, exclusive interview with SCREEN, Kher claimed that seasoned actors like him and Neena Gupta can perform even on their feet because of their education at NSD and experience in theatre. 'Without realizing, we've worked like theatre in this film (Metro… In Dino). Even in the case of Shiv Shastri Balboa, we did that. That film can be adapted into a very good play. So that's the advantage of being experienced, educated actors. We can incorporate our experiences into these films which we probably can't in others,' said Kher. Kher is also returning to direction 23 years after Om Jai Jagdish with Tanvi the Great, a coming-of-age film about an autistic girl's dream to join the Indian Army. Kher also plays a supporting role in the movie.

Metro, Dharmendra and Nafisa Ali played a senior citizen couple. The novelty of the pairing and the intimate scene between the film veterans generated a lot of buzz at the time. Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher also play an elderly couple in Metro... In Dino, also directed by Anurag Basu. When asked if she sees the Dharmendra-Nafisa Ali pairing as a big competition to that of her and Anupam Kher's in the new film, a smiling Neena Gupta at first said, "I don't, I don't." "I would like to work with Dharamji one day. I actually worked opposite him in a film long ago. I can't remember the name right now. But the saleability of stars doesn't apply to us. Woh hero-heroine ke liye hota hai (That works for the lead pair). The director has a vision. They envision the characters visually. If we fit into that, they cast us," Neena Gupta further told NDTV. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Neena Gupta (@neena_gupta) The Panchayat star's remarks could be seen in the context of a 2019 tweet which pitched senior actors should play elderly characters in the film. The conversation started after Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu played both the young and the elderly versions of the two sharpshooters in Tushar Hiranandani's Saand Ki Aankh. Based on the story of real-life sharpshooters Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar, the film triggered a discussion about ageism and casting actors according to their age in movies. The post read, "I love Bhumi and Taapsee but I kinda wish older actors were cast in these roles. Could you imagine Neena Gupta and Shabana Azmi or Jaya Bachchan? #SaandKiAankh" In her response, Neena Gupta at the time wrote, "Yes, I was just thinking about this. Reflecting on their decades-old bond, Neena Gupta told NDTV, " Jab do good actors ek saath kaam karte hain na, chemistry ban hi jaati hai (When two good actors work together, chemistry happens naturally). I don't know why Anurag cast me or Anupam. But I wanted to work with Anurag for so long. And Anupam ko main itni achhi tarah jaanti hoon (I know him so well), we have done 24 shows in America. We were there for one-and-half months. We know each other's moods, habits and everything." " Agar actor naya bhi ho na, mujhe kaam karne mein koi problem nahi hota (Even if the actor is new, I don't feel any difficulty in working with them)" she added. Neena Gupta was last seen in the Amazon Prime original series Panchayat season 4. Speaking of Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino, the film boasts of an ensemble cast also featuring Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sen Sharma.
