Singapore police probe MRT track trespass after clip emerges online (VIDEO)
SINGAPORE, June 12 — A police investigation is under way in Singapore after a video emerged online showing a person walking along an MRT track between Simei and Tanah Merah stations, raising serious safety concerns.
The footage, which appears to have been taken by the individual himself, shows an oncoming train carrying passengers before the man crosses the tracks after it passes.
The area is near construction works for viaducts connected to the upcoming East Coast Integrated Depot.
Responding to Channel News Asia's queries yesterday, SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai confirmed the rail operator was aware of the incident and had lodged a police report.
'We take a serious view of this incident, as track trespassing poses severe safety risks,' said Lam.
'Such reckless actions not only endanger the individual but can also cause service disruptions, affecting many commuters. When emergency brakes are applied, there is also a risk of causing injury to commuters onboard the train.'
Lam added that SMRT is cooperating fully with the police in the ongoing investigation.

PETALING JAYA : Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain will be transferred to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency on July 1. Shuhaily, who was appointed federal CID chief in August 2023, confirmed the transfer with Berita Harian but declined to comment further. The then IGP Razarudin Husain rejected the report, which led to a police investigation into Malaysiakini over its article, with three of its journalists summoned to give their statements last year.

AI legislation must be expedited to tackle negative impact, says Deputy Digital Minister
SHAH ALAM: Specific legislation governing artificial intelligence (AI) must be expedited due to the growing negative impact of the technology, particularly in fraud-related crimes, says Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong. The Deputy Digital Minister said he was informed that between 2020 and 2024, AI-related crimes have resulted in an estimated global loss of around RM5bil. "I expect the AI legislation to be tabled this year so that we can tighten control and outline appropriate penalties for those who misuse this technology," he said when met at the Gawai Kitai Ngiling Bidai 2025 celebration, here Saturday (June 28). He was responding to questions regarding the misuse of AI technology, including incidents involving high-ranking government officials including former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar. Acryl Sani and Kumar had previously denied appearing in separate viral videos circulating on social media, which showed individuals resembling both of them allegedly receiving aid from a person bearing the title "Datuk". He said in response to this matter, his ministry is actively conducting awareness campaigns through the Digital Malaysia Tour programme to engage and educate the public, especially in rural areas, so that they do not fall victim to AI-related fraud. "I have gone to Sabah, the interior of Kapit in Sarawak, and Penang to raise awareness among rural communities about the latest tactics and modus operandi of these criminals," he said.
