CM Revanth Reddy launches EAGLE to keep hawk's eye on drugs
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced the formation of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) to replace the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, stating that the new entity will intensify surveillance and enforcement against drug-related activities.
Speaking at a programme to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held at Shilpakala Vedika, Revanth said, 'Telangana has begun efforts to curb drugs and ganja. Even if one ganja plant is grown or drugs are brought into the state, EAGLE will monitor it. Be cautious.'
He reiterated his aim of making Telangana a drug-free state, asserting that no drugs would be allowed to enter its borders.
'From Komaram Bheem to Chakali Ilamma, Doddi Komuraiah and Sarvai Papanna, many have inspired the people through various movements. Universities and colleges once served as platforms for the statehood struggle. Now, the state is facing a different challenge. We must ask ourselves if Telangana becoming a hub of ganja is a matter of self-respect or shame,' Revanth said.
CM: No progress as long as drugs rule the roost
The chief minister disclosed that soon after assuming office, he instructed officials to take strict action against drugs. Referring to India's performance at the Olympics, he said: 'A country with a population of 140 crore not winning a single gold medal, is that not an embarrassment? Can a country where drug use is widespread progress?'
Revanth pointed out that states such as Punjab and Haryana were already facing severe drug-related challenges. 'Youth in those states have become addicted and families are suffering. Punjabis once led from the front in wars and the Freedom Movement, but the situation has changed,' he said.

Hyderabad: The BRS leaders on Friday demanded the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to take the all party delegation to New Delhi and take up local body elections only after providing 42 per cent reservations to the BCs. Addressing a press conference here at Telangana Bhavan along with party leaders Ch Rakesh, Kishore Goud and MP V Ravichandra, the Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council S Madhusudana Chari said that Revanth Reddy's is known for giving promises and later forgetting them. CM Revanth Reddy is acting contrary to the promise he gave in the Legislative Council on 42 per cent reservation for BCs in local elections. Revanth broke his word by promising to take an all-party delegation to Delhi for the approval of the BC Bill. Despite going to Delhi many times, CM Revanth Reddy did not discuss the BC bill with PM Modi. Revanth is going to Delhi only to give kick backs. It has become clear that he has no sincerity towards the BCs. He said that even Ponnam Prabhakar had made several comments on BC Reservations. Ponnam Prabhakar is being made a scapegoat by the CM. The Congress party has never loved BCs. The Congress has a history of setting up commissions for BCs but failed to implement their reports. Madhusudhana Chari alleged that the Congress made false statements in the Kamareddy Declaration just for the votes of BCs in the elections. The Congress has given nothing to BCs even after two budgets. They said that Rs 20,000 crore will be allocated to BCs in the budget every year. They did not keep that promise. They cheated them by saying that there will be 42 per cent reservation in six months. The Congress party has no sincerity in anything. The BJP also has no concern for BCs. The central government has done nothing for BCs in eleven years. The BC ministry has not even been set up. Allocations in the budgets have also been reduced. He said that the elections should be held only after giving 42 per cent reservation to BCs in local body elections. MP V Ravi Chandra said that the Congress made many promises to BCs for votes in the elections but after coming to power, it forgot to implement the promises made to BCs.

Zumba in schools: Government will not backout, says Sivankutty
Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said that the government will go ahead with the decision to provide Zumba classes in schools at all costs. Responding to the recent allegations made by some Muslim outfits that they were against the introduction of Zumba in schools on grounds that it was against their religious beliefs and culture, the minister said that the government was open to talks. 'No one has asked the children to wear skimpy clothes while performing Zumba. They will be wearing their school uniforms. And participating in the educational activities prescribed by the government is mandatory. The guardians have no choice in the matter', the minister told reporters here on Saturday. The activities such as Zumba, aerobics and Yoga are being introduced in schools as part of the anti-drug campaign. The opposition coming out now could be more harmful than drugs. Instead of improving the education sector, it will only nurture communalism and separatism, the minister added. He said that sports persons from different countries take part in sports events such as Olympics in the prescribed dress code. What is happening in the schools is light exercise though and the children will be wearing their uniforms, he added. Mr. Sivankutty reminded that the progressive organisations in the country had stood with the Muslim community during the issues such as the 'Hijab row', as they believed in democratic values. But the stand taken by some organisations against Zumba at present will turn out in support of majority communalism. He then explained the benefits of children engaging in physical activities such as sports and dance. He said it would be beneficial to them mentally and physically and aid in their personality development. The Minister also spoke on some recent allegations against the education department. Responding to a recent article in a Malayalam daily that said that there were middlemen in the department who ensured permanent appointment of differently abled persons for a price, Mr. Sivankutty said that the Director of General Education has been entrusted with the task of conducting an inquiry on the allegation. 'However, since it is a false allegation, the government will take legal action against those who made it', he added. He also spoke on the recent casual observation of the Kerala High Court of corruption in the department. The Minister said that it was far-fetched and that the department was ready to take action if any one had complaints and could furnish proof.

No gazette notification issued for GO 49 implementation: Minister Jupally Krishna Rao
ADILABAD: The state government on Friday sought to allay the fears of the Adivasis and MPs and MLAs in the wake of the issue of GO No 49 related to Kumurambheem Tiger Conservation Project in Kumurambheem-Asifabad district. Prohibition and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao tried to address the concerns raised by the Adivasi leaders at PMR Hall at the ITDA Utnoor's office. He stressed that no gazette notification had been issued and instructed authorities to refrain from releasing one until further discussions. The minister said he would raise the issue with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Forest Minister Konda Surekha, along with other officials concerned, to arrive at a decision. Meanwhile, a letter purportedly written by spokesperson of the banned Telangana state committee of CPI Maoist, Jagan, on Thursday night alleged that the GO 49, issued by the government on May 5, 2025, was adversely affecting 339 tribal villages in three districts — Mulugu, Kumurambheem Asifabad and Bhadradri-Kothagudem. Responding to the letter on Friday, Panchayati Raj Minister D Anasuya alias Seethakka expressed doubt that the letter was written by the Maoists. The minister said that the letter was written in an abusive language and had become a tool in the hands of her political opponents to target her.
