Whether you're after a crisp French rosé for a summer dinner party, a zesty Chardonnay to enjoy at a barbecue or a softly bubbly pét nat to try, the wine selection from supermarkets has never been better.
From the viral 'chicken wine' (La Vieille Ferme Rosé) and Asda's tongue-in-cheek alternative to Whispering Angel, Screaming Devil, to Aldi's £9.99 orange wine, social media has helped democratise the wine world.
'Consumers are becoming more knowledgeable, more savvy; they can look anything up on the internet,' says Libby Brodie, wine consultant and columnist. 'Wine is a whole aisle now, as people want more variety as well as value, and supermarkets have wisely chosen to invest in their wine buyers and relationships with producers – because this is how most of us buy our wine.'
This means that supermarkets are catering to more refined tastes, explains Sinead Murdoch, sommelier and co-founder at Tasca. 'Now top wine buyers are working for supermarkets, and the growing competition is raising the standard of what ends up on the shelves.'
But discovering a truly great bottle at a supermarket is still tricky, so I went to the experts. From sommeliers to wine influencers, these are the best vinos from the local shops, as chosen by industry heavyweights.

I spoke to qualified wine consultants, restaurant sommeliers, TikTok-viral influencers and wine critics to find the best bottles to sip in summer 2025.
Libby Brodie is a qualified wine consultant with years of experience in the industry. She is the founder of Bacchus & Brodie Wine Consultancy, which personally curates wine selections for individuals or events.
Katie Brook is a journalist with a specialism in wine and a decade of experience as a wine reviewer. She is the founder of Run To Wine - a London- and Surrey-based running club that ends its sessions with a wine tasting.
Sinead Murdoch is a sommelier and co-founder of Tasca, a restaurant in London. Following a formal training, she headed up front of house at Shoreditch restaurant Bistro Freddie. She then spent time in Provence at Gallifet Art Centre, where she curated the wine list.

'They want to understand what the pros and cons are. The whole mobility community is ready for these discussions, because we need them. The past regulation of BEVs has shown that we cannot push things into the market against the customers' will. The easier a solution is, the higher its chance of surviving a long time. And this is quite an easy solution. I personally expect that we will see it beyond the next five to 10 years. I think there will be plenty of applications which really excite people.'

Warm weather has led to the UK's biggest cherry yield in at least three years, a supermarket said, as it introduced larger pack sizes of the fruit for sale due to their abundance. Grower and Tesco supplier Place UK, based in Tunstead near Norwich, Norfolk, said the warm weather had led to a 'wonderful crop'. Tesco has introduced larger 600g and 1kg pack sizes of the cherries, priced at £4.50 and £6 respectively. The supermarket said these offer shoppers better value compared to prices at the start of the season and support growers. Dan Yordanov, head of fresh at Place UK, said: 'It's been a really good season for us so far with the warmest spring on record helping to produce a wonderful crop of cherries – easily the best we've seen for at least three years. 'This has resulted in an abundance of great tasting, perfect British cherries being picked at peak ripeness. 'With this above normal crop we are thankful for Tesco's action, which allows us to avoid waste, and to provide more home-grown, highest quality, nutritious British cherries to be enjoyed by the nation's consumers.' Tesco cherry buyer Olivia Amey said: 'The recent heatwaves have created the biggest UK cherry yield for at least three years with many growers around the country seeing unexpected extra production of about 10 to 15% higher than normal for this time of year. 'The quality of the fruit this year is first class with plump flesh, a firm texture that is juicy and a sweet taste with a slight tartness that perfectly balances the flavour. 'We're very happy to help out our British growers and customers at the same time.' Place UK is one of eight cherry growers across the UK which work with Tesco supplier Driscoll's, with the others based in Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Kent, Fife, Perth and Kinross, and the Scottish Borders. Tesco said this regional diversity supports a longer season and ensures consistent quality by taking advantage of different microclimates across the UK. The UK cherry industry has changed over the past two decades, with more and more British growers seeing better yields by using dwarf root stock, grafted onto new tree varieties. These produce smaller trees which can be grown in plastic tunnels, creating a micro climate with temperatures similar to the Mediterranean and protecting the fruit from any inclement British weather. These new smaller cherry trees can now be picked by workers on foot rather than ladders, enabling British cherries to remain competitively priced. British growers are this year set to produce an estimated 8,000 tonnes of cherries – around four times the harvest in 2018, according to Tesco. In 2015, just 559 tonnes were picked in the UK, it added.

The budget airline and its package break wing, easyJet holidays, are at the beginning of a big school holiday period. Over the next six weeks, it will see its biggest summer ever with more than 82,000 flights. Over seven million UK customers are set to take to the skies on over 45,000 flights to and from the UK alone. ‌ EasyJet has added seven additional Airbus A320 aircraft to its UK-based fleet at Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and newest UK base, London Southend. More than 33 million seats are set to operate to and from the UK across the whole summer season, half a million more than last year. It is running 44 new routes including flights to three brand new destinations; Sal in Cape Verde, Rimini in Italy and Tbilisi in Georgia are operating for the first time this summer, with more choice to longer leisure routes like Turkey, Egypt, Cape Verde, Tunisia and Morocco. The airline will see its busiest day of the summer season on 5 September when nearly 2,000 flights are set to take off with over 300,000 customers expecting to fly, as thousands of families across the UK return from their summer break while others jet off on their well-deserved holidays. The most popular summer destinations from the UK this summer with the Spanish destinations of Malaga and Palma de Mallorca topping the list, as well as Faro in Portugal. Sophie Dekkers, easyJet's Chief Commercial Officer, said: "Every year, millions of customers continue to choose easyJet for the unrivalled choice of destinations we offer across our network, our great value fares and our crew's fantastic service.
