WWE icon defends Goldberg retirement match despite fans' health concerns
Goldberg is set to retire at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event, with his last ever match getting underway in a matter of hours.
The 58-year-old legend is challenging GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship later tonight, and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Booker T is 'loving' that Goldberg is getting one final moment in the ring.
Speaking exclusively to Metro, Booker said: 'I'm not surprised one bit, and I'm loving it because Bill Goldberg has been talking about having his last match.
'And one thing about us professional wrestlers, we always talk about it, man, 'I got one more run, and I got one last run'. And for Goldberg to be able to come back and finish it like this, with GUNTHER, it's not going to get any bigger than that.'
Booker – who is a coach on WWE LFG (Legends and Future Greats) on US network A&E – acknowledged that not everyone is happy with him getting a title match just 17 months before his 60th birthday.
The current NXT commentator argued: 'I know you got your your critics and your pundits out there, your armchair quarterbacks, talking about Goldberg. 'Why Goldberg, when you got all these other guys in line it could have been?'
'Well, those [younger] guys are going to be there, they're going to be there for a shot later on down the line after Goldberg come back – because this is show business.'
He insisted that anyone thinking otherwise is 'missing the boat' on the point of the wrestling game.
'You're missing the boat on what we're doing in this business. If I got a chance as a promoter to use Goldberg on my show just one last time, it's his final run, I'm gonna do it,' he added.
Some fans have also been concerned about Goldberg's physical state, as he appears to have been struggling with his movement in recent weeks, and has been open about the injuries he's suffered in recent months.
In a new interview with CBS Sports, Goldberg confessed his 'old body' isn't in the best shape, as he's having issues with his knee.
However, he added: 'I'm not going to miss the opportunity to put a stamp on my career, on my terms. It's a privilege, it truly is.'
With Goldberg clearly willing and ready to go one more time, Booker insisted anyone in charge would 'do the same damn thing' as Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, given the chance to put on this match.
'If I got a chance to use The Rock, I'm gonna do it. If I got a chance to use Kurt Angle, you know I'm going to do it. That's the promoter's mentality,' he told us.
'And when I hear this armchair quarterbacks talking about 'why Goldberg?' They would do the same damn thing if they were in that position. Trust me. Trust me on that.'

‘Danny Dyer running about naked doesn't even touch Mr Bigstuff season 2's chaos'

The offbeat comedy about two chalk and cheese brothers – the trauma-ridden lad Lee (Danny Dyer) and the by-the-book Glenn – is back after an astounding first run. The storied layers of how this comedy-drama came to be seems almost prophetic – Ryan Sampson moulding a character in the vision of Danny, Danny's tenure on EastEnders coming to an end, the stars aligning. Add Big Boys star Harriet Webb, as the ambitious (if not downtrodden) Kristy, to the mix, and you are onto a surefire winner. So, when the Rivals star scooped up the Bafta for best actor in a comedy, it was a victory in more ways than one – proof of Danny's star quality post-soap opera and a testament that Ryan had created a show that could capture both a devoted fan base and critical acclaim. Not that he had any doubt after seeing the magic Harriet and Danny concocted in the flesh, as he told Metro ahead of Mr Bigstuff season two. 'It's absolutely mad, honestly, and I was sat there at the Baftas and Danny did this lovely shout out, and I was like, 'What is this?' 'The first read through. You hear these two [Danny and Harriet] doing it and putting their own spin on it. And I was like, 'oh, that's quite good. That's quite sexy.' And then you see bits of it as we're shooting it, you're like, 'oh, it really does work'. I'm just so chuffed. I'm really glad,' Ryan said about the Bafta win. Season one of Mr Bigstuff introduced the gruff, drug-fuelled Lee, on the run from a dangerous path and forever living in his dead father's shadow. When he is unexpectedly reunited with the endearingly dweebie Glenn, his brother, their lives are turned upside down, ending in an epic season one cliffhanger – the dad is, in fact, very much not dead. The bar has been set high, with the grimy humour and outrageous scenes in season one and yet season two easily surpasses it with even more mental moments. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video In the first episode, as seen in the trailer, Lee ends up disrobing and chasing some hooligans down the street – a scene that somehow has a more chaotic story behind-the-camera. 'Chaos was when we did the naked chase bit. We had to do it in real life. Danny has to run down this actual suburban street with real people in it, and he's almost completely naked, and it was on Halloween,' Ryan recalled. 'So as he was running down the street, there were little kids literally around the corner. And the producer was like 'you need to go now. You need to do it now. There are small children dressed as Tinkerbell'.' And yet, this only scrapes the surface of the absurdity to come. For Danny, his most chaotic moment on set was the day a bunch of retired stuntmen shot a scene set in a working man's club that soon descends into violence. 'We only had one day to get that. We called on all of the old retired stuntmen that were still alive, and they were so happy to be doing [it]. 'You know the old stuntmen that haven't got all their fingers because they've been around since the 60s and there was no health and safety and stuff. They made me look good. In fact, as Ryan revealed, one of them was Roger Moore's James Bond stuntman. 'Yeah he was like 80 and getting thrown around, bowling over tables and you go 'wow this is an art',' Danny added. Meanwhile, the storylines lean right into the bonkers tone of the show, not least Kristy's journey to dominatrix in a bid to spice up her sex life with Glenn. Harriet shared: 'I was really excited about some of the more playful dominatrix [scenes]. I was very excited for Kirsty, weirdly, to explore that and to have those more outrageous scenes. 'Also some of the more emotional stuff, delving into her relationship with her mum, and that really coming to a head throughout season two, was a really cool thing as an actor to be able to do.' To whet the appetite, Ryan teased an 'impressive' moment from episode five that Harriet executes that is 'amazing to watch'. Meanwhile, Glenn and Lee are thrust into a paternal wild goose chase that takes them to some 'really weird places'. Danny added: 'Obviously, Lee's not dealing with it very well with the trauma of his dad. Lee loves his dad and looks up to him, and it was Glenn who wasn't as fussed. 'The idea of [his dad] lying, Lee [has taken] it badly, so he needs to get his mojo back and then go on a crusade to go and find him that takes some nutty little twists.' Unlike their dad, the vibrant world Ryan has created, revolving around these two brothers who form the most unlikely bond, is showing no signs of disappearing. In fact, Ryan has already teased the multi-season vision he has for the show, provided the audience stays. 'I know sort of where we're going so we've got a few series to get to the actual peak. I want to do a slightly weird thing, which is that I want it to be a comedy which ends up with [more] drama than is normal [in a show like this]. More Trending 'We have really good actors so long as it feels real and we go really slowly, I think we can [do it].' Although in an industry increasingly defined by audience numbers, Danny provides some sage advice for Mr Bigstuff fans if they want to see this larger-than-life plot come to fruition. 'Watch it, download it, gorge on it. The whole series in less than Lord of the Rings so get amongst it and you can get another series out of it,' he declared. TNA Slammiversary sees WWE icon, 48, return to calls for 'one more match'
A WWE legend made an emotional return at TNA Slammiversary over a decade after his last appearance. After rumours and teases turned into an announcement from TNA Wrestling, AJ Styles returned to the promotion where he made his name and helped inspire a generation. Partway through Sunday night's show – which made history with a record breaking North American crowd for the company with 7,623 in attendance – the Phenomenal One came out after the match between Leon Slater and Moose. Slater, 21, made history of his own by becoming the youngest ever X-Division Champion, but there was another special moment on the way. Styles, who was the inaugural X-Division Champion over two decades ago, came out to his iconic Time To Fly theme music from his TNA days. He asked the crowd if they missed him, before praising the way TNA has continued to thrive, and paying tribute to Slater for continuing the rich history of the title and the company. Styles corrected fans chanting 'you deserve it' as Slater, insisting the Bradford-born wrestler 'earned it' instead. The crowd also chanted 'one more match', calling for the former world champion to step into a TNA ring before he retires. He promised to 'get to that match', although he didn't address the calls on the night. During the broadcast, commentator Tom Hannifan announced TNA had made history with its highest ever attendance in North America over its 23-year history. 'This company has worked tirelessly since last December when it was announced that Slammiversary would be held at the UBS Arena,' said TNA Wrestling President Carlos Silva in a press release. 'To see a record-setting crowd at the UBS Arena was a milestone moment for TNA Wrestling that no one will ever forget.' Bring Her Back boasts one of the most horrifically disturbing scenes I've ever s
Disturbing new film Bring Her Back contains one of the most intensely grotesque and terrifying scenes I've ever seen – one that made me physically recoil – but the movie is more than just harrowing thrills. This A24 supernatural horror has had UK fans patiently waiting nearly two months longer than our US and Australian counterparts to witness its grisliness, which reportedly left some fainting in cinemas. Not only are there several truly hideous scenes in the film, built up to by its looming sense of foreboding, but it leaps straight in with grainy footage from a cult showing people being tortured and hanged. I've now warned you what kind of film it's going to be from the very beginning, but this second feature from Australian sibling filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me) goes beyond simply wince-inducing. It's also a poignant tale about the devastation of grief and boasts two-time Oscar-nominee Sally Hawkins as its stunningly effective secret weapon. Not that anyone would expect anything less than excellence from Hawkins at this stage, but she triumphs here as an exquisitely off-balance and creepy presence, elevating the distressing – if sometimes slightly thin – material. Bring Her Back opens with the trauma of step-siblings Andy (Billy Barratt) and Piper (Sora Wong) finding their father dead in the shower, which leads them to be placed in the care of eccentric former counsellor Laura (Hawkins). To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Laura is cheerful to an almost manic degree, welcoming the pair into her cluttered home up in the hills, where she's also fostering a young mute boy, Oliver (Jonah Wren Phillips). Immediately smitten with Piper, who reminds her of her late daughter Cathy (Mischa Heywood) – who was blind and tragically drowned in the home's swimming pool – Laura is surprisingly brusque with the troubled Oliver as well as Andy, who she immediately begins to undermine with unnerving behaviour. This is all managed with icky cheeriness from Hawkins as Laura, who expertly masks her character's subtly nefarious motives with Laura's kooky disposition and professional experience handling displaced kids. But she's not the scariest presence in the film: that honour belongs to Phillips' deeply troubled Oliver, who eats flies, bangs on windows – and much worse. It's him at the centre of Bring Her Back's most stomach-churning scenes, including the worst, which may well have you gagging or at least groaning in disgust and fright as the audience in my screening did. I won't spoil the exact nature of what it entails, but suffice it to say it's good old-fashioned body horror and a classic fear realised that many have nightmares about – and that's without the genuinely distressing cracking and splintering sound effects that accompany the blood onscreen. I'll never forget it. The movie's sound design by Emma Bortignon is particularly impressive, thunderous in parts and quietly foreboding in others, constantly ratcheting up the unease. It also pairs well with Cornel Wilczek's score – sometimes jangling and disorienting – to emphasise the audio overwhelm someone with compromised vision like Piper can experience. More Trending Bring Her Back's performances all around are knock-out, from Hawkins and Phillips providing the fear factor to Barratt and newcomer Wong giving the film its heart. But although it pushes further into depraved places than I expected and enjoys a fair amount of impact from that alone, the beats of the story can be a little slow and overly simplified; this goes as far as the film's title itself. As can be the case with horror movies, the revelations end up paling a little in comparison with the thrills of the journey to get there. You can guess what's behind the locked door of the shed, and the basis of the film's set-up is a little rushed and unsubstantiated, which left me feeling slightly deflated. Despite this, Bring Her Back's rawness – in more ways than one – is something seared into my memory, thanks to its twisted and extreme horror and powerful performances.
