Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday launched infrastructure projects worth ₹550 crore in Ganjam district, focusing on irrigation, road development, and youth welfare, reported The Times of India.The foundation stones were laid during his visit to Aska, where he addressed the ' Yuba Shakti Samabesh ' marking one year of his government. The projects include five irrigation schemes expected to benefit 5,845 hectares of farmland, road widening, and a high-level bridge.Majhi directed officials to speed up a revised DPR for the redevelopment of the Tara Tarini temple, a key religious site in the region.He also announced the setting up of a world-class industrial training institute (ITI) and highlighted a roadmap to support youth aged 25–35. The CM said 28,346 government jobs have been provided so far, along with over 1.1 lakh jobs in the industrial sector. Another 40,000 government jobs are targeted for this year.Focusing on sports infrastructure, Majhi said ₹4,100 crore has been allocated to build stadiums in every block to encourage youth to pursue careers in sports.State ministers Suryavanshi Suraj, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Gokulanand Mallick, and several MLAs and MPs were present at the event.

Odisha to host textile investors meet in Bhubaneswar on July 25
Agency: PTI Bhubaneswar, Jul 21 (PTI) The Odisha government is set to host the first edition of 'ODISHA TEX 2025', a textile investment event here on July 25. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to inaugurate the event at the State Convention Centre, which will help promote the state as a major hub for textiles, apparels, and technical textiles, an official statement said on Monday. The event is likely to see the signing of major MoUs and important investment announcements with top players from the textile sector, it said. These developments will play a key role in strengthening the state's industrial growth and helping the state move towards its goal of becoming the textile capital of India by 2030, the government said in a statement. Claiming that ODISHA TEX 2025 will be the biggest textile investment event in Eastern India, the government added that it would bring together leading textile companies, global brands, manufacturers, startups, and young professionals. The state government is currently developing six new parks for textiles, apparel, and wearables. Hemant Sharma, additional chief secretary, industries department, said, 'This platform will bring leading textile players to Odisha and generate significant employment opportunities for our youth. With progressive policies, world-class infrastructure, and a skilled workforce, we are building a robust ecosystem where textiles can become a powerful driver of industrial growth, women's empowerment, and rural transformation." The event is expected to witness the participation of over 300 delegates from outside the state, representing key textile hubs such as Tirupur, Bengaluru, Surat, the National Capital Region (NCR), and states like Punjab and West Bengal, officials said. Odisha CM Majhi condoles Achuthanandan's demise
Agency: Bhubaneswar, Jul 21 (PTI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday expressed grief over the demise of former Kerala CM VS Achuthanandan. Achuthanandan, one of India's most respected Communist leaders, died at the age of 101. He passed away at Thiruvananthapuram while undergoing treatment following a cardiac arrest nearly a month ago. He served as Kerala's Chief Minister from 2006 to 2011 and was elected to the state Assembly seven times. Taking to X, Majhi said, 'Saddened to hear about the demise of former Kerala CM VS Achuthanandan. Heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers. May Mahaprabhu Jagannath grant him eternal peace. Central team assesses damages in Himachal Pradesh's Thunag; DC says Rs 394cr lost
Kullu/Mandi: A central govt team visited the affected areas of Thunag sub-division in Mandi district on Sunday to assess the damage caused by floods and landslides, and was informed that the area suffered Rs 394 crore in damages. Led by G Parthasarathi, joint secretary, ministry of home affairs, the six-member team inspected the damage to houses and other properties in Bagsiad and the nearby village of Sharan. The team also inspected the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and other damaged structures in the area. During a meeting with the visiting team, Mandi deputy commissioner Apoorv Devgan put losses suffered in the district at Rs 708 crore. Devgan said Karsog suffered a loss of Rs 55 crore and Dharampur of Rs 47 crore. At Fanyaar village, the team reviewed the destruction caused by a landslide and gathered information about the damage to a drinking water supply scheme on Chhadi Khad in Dhangudhar. Later, the team visited Thunag market and assessed the damage to homes, shops, and various institutions, as well as the impact of the severe flooding on the local economy. In Deji village, which was among the worst-hit areas, the team examined a road washed away by the flood and the damage to other public infrastructure. Devgan briefed the central team on the widespread damage in the region and also shared information about the ongoing restoration efforts. Local MLA and leader of the opposition Jairam Thakur also accompanied the central team and shared information about the disaster-related losses in the area. Special secretary (revenue and disaster management) D C Rana apprised the team of the relief and rehabilitation works being carried out by the state govt in the disaster-affected areas. Chairing the meeting, Kandarp V Patel, deputy secretary, ministry of finance, expressed sympathy with the people and said after receiving the final damage reports, the team will prepare a comprehensive report to be presented to the National Executive Committee on Disaster Management. Based on its recommendations, the final report will be submitted to the high-level committee chaired by the Union home minister. He urged all concerned departments to submit their damage assessment reports in line with the prescribed norms. At present, 393 people are still living in 15 camps, added the DC. 93 roads remain blocked After 19 days of the disaster that struck Mandi on July 1, 93 roads remain blocked in the district, with the highest 67 in the Seraj region. A total of 20 transformers are also non-functional, with 19 in Gohar sub-division of the district. Forty water supply schemes, 22 alone in Thunag sub-division, are still to be repaired.
