New QB ranking further validates Lamar Jackson's elite status
It's often said that this is a quarterback's league, and there's a reason for that. The impressive statistics these individuals achieve each year underscore their pivotal role in the game's evolution. Lamar Jackson, in particular, is celebrated as one of the most exciting players in football. The Baltimore Ravens star has already won two AP MVP trophies, showcasing his remarkable talent and impact on the field.
Last season, Jackson took his already elite play to another level, leading all NFL quarterbacks in passer rating (119.6) and QBR (77.3). He threw for 4,172 yards while tossing 41 touchdowns vs. only four interceptions. He picked up 915 additional yards and another four touchdowns with his legs.
Lamar entered the 2024 NFL season already having earned two First-Team All-Pro nods and three Pro Bowl mentions. He added one more of each for his trouble, so the question we ask every year is simple.
How does he rank vs. his peers playing the same position? We're glad you asked. One of the more well-known NFL platforms recently tried to answer that question.
Lamar Jackson lands third on FOX Sports' ranking of the top ten NFL quarterbacks
As we turn the page from June to July, FOX Sports ranked the top ten NFL quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson landed third, but a misprint may have stated what most are already thinking.
FOX mistakenly calls him "the defending NFL MVP", which he isn't, unless we're mentioning the trophy he won as the Pro Football Writers Association's Most Valuable Player, but FOX's statement says a lot. No disrespect to last year's winner, Josh Allen, but doesn't it seem like Jackson should have won the trophy?
The only person we may have understood being ranked on his level would have been Saquon Barkley, but if last season didn't teach us anything else, it taught us this. Let's call it what it is. The NFL's MVP trophy is typically awarded to a quarterback.
There aren't many in the game today who play the game at an equally elite level as 'Action' Jackson. Here's FOX's theory from their ranking.
"Jackson, the defending NFL MVP, might be the most versatile quarterback on this list. What he lacks in accuracy, he makes up for in touchdown efficiency and rushing ability. He's led the NFL in touchdown percentage twice, posting an impressive 8.6% mark last season as he threw for a career-high 41 touchdowns. He's also led all quarterbacks in rushing yards the past two seasons and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in 2019 and 2020. His one knock is that the Ravens have yet to appear in a Super Bowl with him as the starter."
Jackson lands behind Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. The top ten is rounded out by Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Jared Goff, Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert, Jayden Daniels, and Dak Prescott.
That's a nice list. Even though these types of discussions are always subjective, the only players at the QB position that we would tolerate being listed ahead of Lamar in terms of skill set are Allen and Mahomes, if we're being honest. That said, although it seems more feasible to place Allen behind Mahomes and Jackson, this list won't receive a ton of complaints on this platform, except to note that placing Dak Prescott in the top ten is worthy of discussion.

Former NY Giants Star Makes Strong Statement on Possible Comeback
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Jason Pierre-Paul's career with the New York Giants took an unexpected turn during the 2015 offseason. As the star pass rusher celebrated the 4th of July holiday, he ended up dealing with a career-altering injury, which sidelined him for a while. Pierre-Paul's incident wasn't career-ending. In fact, he continued playing for years after, despite dealing with a constant setback. He even continued to produce at a high level throughout his post-Giants era. Pierre-Paul didn't play at all during the 2024 NFL season. When he suited up for the New Orleans Saints in 2023, he appeared in just one game. While it might be assumed his playing days are in the rearview, the veteran recently revealed that he's still training and waiting on a potential comeback. Jason Pierre-Paul #90 of the New York Giants in action against the Kansas City Chiefs during their game at MetLife Stadium on November 19, 2017 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Jason Pierre-Paul #90 of the New York Giants in action against the Kansas City Chiefs during their game at MetLife Stadium on November 19, 2017 in East Rutherford, New Jersey."I can still do it," Pierre-Paul told ESPN recently. If Pierre-Paul can make it back to the New York Giants for a second stint, he would be thrilled. "I think that'll be dope. Tremendous," he added. "To go back somewhere where my career started ... the fans know me and know the type of player that I am. I'll always be that type of player and just give 'em everything I got, which I know it'll be more than enough." Coming out of South Florida in 2010, Pierre-Paul was drafted by the Giants with the 15th overall pick in the first round. In the five years leading up to the incident, Pierre-Paul accounted for 285 tackles, 73 hits on the quarterback, and 42 sacks. When he returned to the field in 2015, Pierre-Paul appeared in just eight games. He added one sack and 26 tackles to his resume. For the final two years of his run with the Giants, Pierre-Paul combined 121 tackles, landed 29 hits on the QB, and collected 15.5 sacks. In 2018, Pierre-Paul was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent four seasons there, registering 171 tackles and 33 sacks. Since his run in Tampa, he had short stints with the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, and the Miami Dolphins. It's unclear if Pierre-Paul will get a chance to suit up again at 36 years old after spending the last season off the field, but the veteran defensive lineman is confident he can get back out there and produce at a high level. He hopes the Giants see that and bring him in to finish his career there. For more New York Giants and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

2026 NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: James Brockermeyer, C, Miami (FL)
Summer is here, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Tampa Bay. Are we going to write about quarterbacks? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans. So if you are still with us, enjoy our latest Summer Scouting report as we prepare you for the Fall. Player Information Player: James Brockermeyer School: Miami (FL) Height/Weight: 6-3/295 lbs. Player Background - 4-Star Recruit - Under Armour All-American - Transferred from Alabama to TCU to Miami (FL) - All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2024 Career Stats Heading into the 2025 Season - 28 Career Games - 26 Career Starts Notable PFF Numbers Heading into the 2025 Season - 67.7 PFF Run Blocking Grade - 81.1 PFF Pass Blocking Grade - 343 Run Blocking Snaps - 506 Pass Blocking Snaps Player Traits - Will finish blocks and take defenders out of plays - Can be lean-looking but uses his weight and leverage well - Good initial punch into defenders - Good anchor ability - Can recover well if beaten by defenders Player Summary James Brockermeyer has been in the college ranks for years now, but he has yet to build up a strong resume. Last year at TCU, he finally showed some promise with some meaningful reps. He demonstrated good power and punch ability into defenders, as well as a good base to handle pass rushers. He looks lean on film but he has some good leverage skills, and it allows him to not get beaten as often as you would think when watching him. At this point, Brockermeyer needs more reps, plain and simple. Once he gets that, we could be looking at a reliable interior offensive lineman in the NFL.
