The charge was framed under Section 11(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, punishable by a maximum three years in jail upon conviction. The charge was also read with Section 16 of the same Act, which provided for an additional sentence of up to five years and two strokes of the rotan due to the relationship of trust between him and the victim. Deputy public prosecutor Diyana Najihah Fauzi prosecuted while the man was unrepresented.

Man, son arrested over sexual assault of 13-year-old

BALIK PULAU: Police have detained a father and son for sexual offences against their own family member over the past two years. The sexual abuse began when the girl was 13 and continued until she turned 15. The most recent incident took place on July 8 at their apartment in Bayan Lepas. Southwest district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said at about 11pm on that day, the victim was summoned by her father into the bedroom to pass her some pocket money for school. The man had allegedly sexually molested the victim, an incident which happened often since she was 13. He said the victim was also raped several times by her brother since she was 13, for a year. "The victim related the incident to her mother about 1pm last Friday after the woman wanted her son to look after the girl, who often skipped school. "The victim then came to the police station to report the incident," he said tonight. Following the report, Sazalee said police arrested the 52-year-old father and his 22-year-old son. The father had no prior record, while the son did. Investigations revealed the abuse occurred when the victim was alone at home. "The last rape incident happened mid-2024 by her brother. "The victim was referred to the Penang Hospital for examination," he added. Sazalee said both suspects have been remanded since last Saturday. The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Vietnamese vessel caught in Kudat after ramming patrol boat

Published on: Tuesday, July 22, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 22, 2025 By: Patimang Abdul Ghani Text Size: The four Vietnamese fishermen detained by Malaysian Maritime authorities KUDAT: Five Vietnamese fishermen were detained after their vessel attempted to ram a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) patrol boat in a failed bid to evade capture near Pulau Malawali early Monday. The vessel, spotted around 4am following a public tip-off, refused to comply with orders to stop. The suspects cut their towing rope, deployed metal bars, and aggressively tried to ram the pursuing patrol boat. After a 15-minute chase, MMEA officers boarded and secured the vessel. Authorities seized about 40kg of illegally caught sea cucumbers (balat), 300 litres of diesel, and specialised metal equipment designed for illegal seabed trawling. The five suspects, aged 28–39, had no valid identification. The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 and Immigration Act 1956/63. Total seizures, including the vessel and gear, are valued at over RM2 million. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Teen charged with raping cousin since she was seven

Published on: Tuesday, July 22, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 22, 2025 By: Cynthia D Baga Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: A 19-year-old man pleaded not guilty to two counts of raping his cousin in Tuaran, first in 2019 when she was seven, and again in 2024 when she was 12. He was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which carries up to 20 years' jail and whipping. The court set mention for Aug 27 and granted RM3,000 bail with conditions, including police reporting and no contact with the victim. The prosecution initially objected to bail, citing the familial relationship and risk to witnesses. The defence argued the accused was unemployed, voluntarily came forward, and cares for ill parents. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
