Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi jokes that he expects to play Bill Belichick and North Carolina in ACC title game
Narduzzi complimented Belichick's career on Wednesday at ACC media days and joked that he expected to face the Tar Heels for a spot in the College Football Playoff at the end of the season.
'I'll be shocked if he doesn't have success,' Narduzzi said of Belichick. 'I don't have a crystal ball, I'm no genius over here. He's a heck of a football coach. But it takes players and it takes coaches. It takes a program together, it takes everyone moving in the same direction … I expect them to be in the [ACC] championship game against Pitt this year.'
Belichick was hired ahead of the 2025 season after North Carolina parted ways with Mack Brown. It's the first college coaching job for the former New England Patriots coach after he had spent the entirety of his career in the NFL.
The Tar Heels went 6-7 in 2024 after losing their bowl game and haven't won an ACC title since 1980. Pitt, meanwhile, won the 2021 ACC title with Kenny Pickett at quarterback.

Neither team is a favorite to win the conference in 2025. Pitt started the season 7-0 — and beat North Carolina 34-24 in that stretch — but lost its last five games of the season before losing the GameAbove Sports Bowl in six overtimes to Toledo.
UNC's odds to make the ACC title game are +1000 at BetMGM while Pitt's are +1600. Clemson is -175 to appear in the title game, while Miami is favored to be the Tigers' opponent at +125.
The Belichick question in Narduzzi's media scrum wasn't the only one Narduzzi fielded on Wednesday. He was even asked about Belichick at the end of his main news conference and had a question back for the reporter who made the Belichick inquiry.
"Is this a Pitt question, or is this a North Carolina question? Bill Belichick, one of the greatest coaches to ever coach the game," Narduzzi said. "Won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. I've enjoyed conversations with him, whether it be at Amelia Island or in Zoom calls with ACC coaches. He's a tremendous football coach, really smart.
"Again, he adds a lot of flavor and excitement to the ACC. When you look at Bill Belichick coming to the Atlantic Coast Conference, it just tells you how attractive our conference is."

SEC commish comes to defense of Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze amid golf uproar
The post SEC commish comes to defense of Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze amid golf uproar appeared first on ClutchPoints. Auburn Tigers football head coach Hugh Freeze has come under fire this offseason, not for play-calling or player development, but for spending time on the golf course. As the program works to rebound from a rocky year, Freeze's perceived lack of urgency has ignited criticism from fans and media alike. But now, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has stepped in to push back. Speaking on the 'The Opening Kickoff' podcast, Sankey addressed the backlash, saying the criticism of Freeze has been exaggerated. 'It's healthy for me to go outside and play golf,' the SEC commissioner said. 'I think the criticism [of Freeze] is misplaced.' Freeze, who led Auburn to a 5-7 record and just two SEC wins in his first year, has been under pressure as the 2026 recruiting class lags behind rivals. The situation worsened when two Auburn football players were arrested within the last month, raising discipline concerns inside the program. Critics have framed Freeze's downtime as tone-deaf, especially with off-field issues mounting. However, Sankey drew parallels to other high-pressure SEC football jobs, stating that mental resets like golf are normal and necessary—even for top-tier coaches. Adding a layer of drama to the controversy, Lane Kiffin made a joking reference to Freeze's golf habits during SEC Media Days. While he didn't directly criticize, his comment—referencing a prior online exchange with Freeze—added fuel to the narrative and drew laughs from reporters. The exact tone of Kiffin's remark remains open to interpretation, but it reflected the ongoing rivalry and mutual awareness between the two SEC head coaches. It also underscores the rising competitive tension between Auburn and Ole Miss as both programs deal with quarterback changes and roster turnover. Freeze and Kiffin share coaching roots in Mississippi, and their rivalry continues to simmer as each battles for SEC relevance. Behind the scenes, Freeze is reportedly managing health issues that could explain his increased time on the golf course. While unconfirmed publicly, it adds another dimension to a situation where public perception, personal wellness, and program accountability collide. In the SEC, every action is magnified—and Freeze knows it. With Sankey defending him and Kiffin blurring the line between troll and rival, the Auburn coach remains in the spotlight for reasons beyond the football field. Still, Freeze's attention must shift back to on-field results. With a difficult schedule ahead and recruiting pressure mounting, year two will demand more than a strong golf game to earn back the confidence of the Auburn football faithful. Florida State football's Thomas Castellanos refuses to back down from Alabama trash talk
The post Florida State football's Thomas Castellanos refuses to back down from Alabama trash talk appeared first on ClutchPoints. Florida State football's Thomas Castellanos refused to back down from his Alabama trash talk. The former Boston College standout is coming into Tallahassee looking to revive this historic program, which is coming off a dismal 2024 season. Head coach Mike Norvell was steadily rebuilding the Seminoles into a contender, culminating in a 2023 regular season that saw them go undefeated and win the ACC Championship. Unfortunately, the following year was a giant step in the wrong direction. Florida State football went 2-10 overall and won just one game in its conference. It all started in Week 1 when the preseason No. 10 team in the country suffered a surprising defeat to unranked Georgia Tech in Ireland. From there, the negative momentum just continued to pile on for the Seminoles, who struggled mightily at quarterback last year. Castellanos is looking to bring stability back under center for this program, and what better way to do it than with a statement win over Alabama. The Crimson Tide are also coming off a disappointing season by their standards and entering 2025 with firm College Football Playoff-or-bust expectations. The two traditional powerhouses will meet in Doak Campbell Stadium in front of a surely raucous crowd in Week 1. Castellanos is surely fired up for this matchup and has certainly talked the talk in the buildup. The Miami native was asked during ACC Media Days if he had any regrets over his past statements about the Crimson Tide and explained why he didn't, as well as his intention behind this trash talk. 'We stand on what I said. I said what I said, and we stand on that. I don't mean no disrespect to none of those guys at Alabama or anything like that. I have confidence in my guys and the work we've been putting in and preparing, and the preparation we've been putting together. That's all that was. No disrespect to those guys, but we stand on what I said…Them boys (Florida State football) are coming off 2-10; I just wanted to instill some confidence. I'm trying to get my boys ready to go. I'm trying to make it the biggest stage.' It's safe to say Castellanos' comments on Alabama will age either very well or very poorly on August 30. That being said, regardless of what happens, the dynamic quarterback is trying to change the culture in Tallahassee, which certainly took a hit in 2024. Norvell now has a lot of pressure going into this season, and his quarterback is surely embracing some of that now. The Seminoles do not have an easy schedule, with trips to Clemson and Florida later on, as well as a home game against Miami. However, this team will still surely have the talent to get over .500 again. And anything below that record would surely be considered another failed season under Norvell, who was doing so well with Florida State football up until last season. EA forecasts quarterly bookings below expectations on cautious gamer spending
By Zaheer Kachwala (Reuters) -Electronic Arts forecast second-quarter net bookings below Wall Street expectations on Tuesday, pressured by uncertain consumer spending on its core sports portfolio amid a challenging economic environment. With shifting U.S. trade policies threatening to push inflation higher, gamers have become more cautious with discretionary spending. EA said the bookings forecast includes a four percentage point year-over-year headwind, due to changes in recognizing returns from the Ultimate Edition of "FC 26", which will be booked in the third quarter. Earlier this month, EA launched "College Football 26", hoping to build on the success of last year's edition, which became one of the best-selling titles of 2024. However, analysts warned that growth comparisons for "College Football 26" may be challenging, given the breakout success of its predecessor, which revived the franchise after a more than 10-year hiatus. The company said it expects a more "normalized curve" for College Football sales, partially offset by the launch of "Madden NFL 26". Its shares were up more than 1% in extended trading. EA last week unveiled the first trailer for "Battlefield 6", placing a big bet on the title to reinvigorate the franchise after the previous installment fell short of fan expectations. "With Battlefield competing in the shooter category this year after not releasing a title for four years, we think Battlefield stands to benefit more than Call of Duty does in the back-half of 2025," D.A. Davidson & Co analyst Wyatt Swanson said. Battlefield competes with Activision Blizzard's "Call of Duty" franchise, which has long-been the dominant player in the first-person shooter genre. "Battlefield 6" is set to launch in EA's current fiscal year with analysts expecting the game to sell millions of copies. EA forecast second-quarter bookings of between $1.80 billion and $1.90 billion, below analysts' expectations of $2.01 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. For the first quarter, EA reported bookings of $1.30 billion beating estimates of $1.29 billion.
