Umno-PKR ties in unity govt intact despite Tengku Zafrul's exit, says Johari Ghani
Johari, who is Umno vice-president, said both parties must remain united in their efforts to ensure the country's political stability.
"For example, in government, I play a role in national development as a minister. Political developments are normal, but they should not affect the strength of our coalition within the Unity Government and the country," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Madani Adopted Village (KAM) programme handover ceremony for the Plantation and Commodities Ministry at Kampung Parit Bilal here on Saturday (May 31).
On May 30, Tengku Zafrul, who is the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, announced his resignation as a Umno Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member.
On Saturday's programme, Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said RM2.5mil has been allocated to Kampung Parit Bilal and Kampung Parit Ahmad under the ministry's Madani Adopted Village initiative.
The funds would go toward implementing various development projects, including upgrading educational facilities, houses of worship and basic infrastructure, he said.
He said the initiative also involves strategic cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, the Batu Pahat district office, Johor state development office, village development and security committees and local community leaders.
"Among the activities planned are entrepreneurship training, such as chocolate-making courses and outreach programmes under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) MyCommodity initiative," Johari added. – Bernama

"We must fight for issues that affect people's lives so that they continue to stand with us. "If we only prioritise the party, they will drift away," he said. He said Umno leaders must show inclusivity and uphold democratic values to reflect the party's strength as an organisation. Touching on Kelantan specifically, Shamsul Anuar said the state required a targeted and strategic approach to win back voters. "We want to return Kelantan to Barisan Nasional, but we must understand the state's changing political landscape and socio-economic realities. "Voter sentiment in Kelantan is different from that in Perak or elsewhere. "BN has not governed Kelantan since 1990. "The state has a strong identity rooted in religion and conservative values, and Umno must understand and respect this," he said. He said Umno must offer something better than what Pas is currently delivering. "That is why we must start the groundwork now. "We need to find the right approach and offer the best solutions to the people of Kelantan," he said. Shamsul Anuar said Umno remains one of the most organised and democratic parties, and must continue listening to its grassroots at all levels to stay relevant and strong.

Nurul Izzah appointed as Sidec's strategic advisor
SHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar has been appointed as the Strategic Advisor for the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec). The appointment was announced yesterday in conjunction with the 10th anniversary celebration of the state government agency. Sidec stated in a press release that Nurul Izzah was appointed in her capacity as the Executive Chairperson of Polity, a new think tank. This appointment aims to bring valuable insights into public policy, socioeconomic development, and digital empowerment. Also appointed as Sidec's Strategic Advisors are former Nvidia Corp and Foxconn vice-president Datuk Lai Yit Loong, and Foxconn director Dr Chiang Shang-Yi. Both figures will focus on talent development and cross-border collaborations in technology and semiconductor manufacturing, in addition to sharing their extensive experience in global semiconductor innovation and industry development. Sidec said these appointments mark a strategic step in strengthening Selangor's position as a regional innovation hub and accelerating the progress of the nation's semiconductor ecosystem. For 2024, Selangor maintained its position as the largest contributor to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), contributing 26.2 per cent of the economic value, reaching RM432.1bil, with an annual growth rate of 6.3 per cent.
