CTA and Cannes Market launch new CES Innovation Award
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), producer of the globally known CES tech show, has announced a partnership with the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival to introduce a new CES Innovation Awards category for 2026, dedicated to film production and distribution technologies. Unveiled during a Cannes Next fireside chat at the festival, the new award—titled 'Filmmaking & Distribution, in partnership with Cannes Next'—will spotlight tools and technologies that enhance film creation, distribution and industry operations.
The initiative was announced by CTA CEO and Vice Chair Gary Shapiro and Guillaume Esmiol, Executive Director of the Marché du Film. Shapiro discussed how AI-driven tools, immersive technologies, and hardware innovations are designed to enhance the creative process and streamline workflows in film and media production.
'This award showcases how creators in film can use tech to unlock new worlds,' said Shapiro. 'We're thrilled to partner with Cannes Next and recognise the community of innovators who are transforming the film industry as we know it.'
The new award category will celebrate a broad range of technological advancements, from audio-visual equipment and production software to streaming services and cloud-based distribution platforms. It will also recognise groundbreaking developments in generative AI for screenwriting, video and voice, as well as virtual production, VFX and next-gen content delivery methods. Judges for this category will include members of the Cannes Next community, ensuring expert evaluation from within the industry.
As with other CES Innovation Awards, the filmmaking and distribution category will be open to companies, startups, entrepreneurs and filmmakers whose innovations empower creative professionals across the film and media ecosystem. Submissions for CES 2026, including applications to judge the awards, will open in June.

Deepika Padukone is first Indian to be honoured with Hollywood Walk of Fame star
It's a proud moment for India as actor Deepika Padukone has been chosen as a recipient of prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame star. On July 2, Padukone's name along with other renowned personalities from the worlds of recordings, motion pictures, television, live theatre/live performance and sports entertainment, were announced at a live press conference from Ovation Hollywood. The selections were ratified by the Chamber's board of directors on June 25. "We are excited to announce the newest selections of 35 esteemed individuals who will be enshrined on the Walk of Fame as part of the prestigious Class of 2026," Peter Roth, former CEO of Warner Bros. Television and chairman of the Walk of Fame selection committee, said in a statement. "These talented individuals have made significant contributions to the world of entertainment, and we are thrilled to honour them with this well-deserved recognition."

Anupam Kher's 'Tanvi The Great' to screen at New York Indian Film Festival
Anupam Kher's upcoming directorial Tanvi The Great will premiere at the New York Indian Festival on June 19. In a post on his Instagram handle, the veteran Bollywood actor shared a video in which he listed his upcoming tight travel schedule, which features multiple screenings of his Tanvi The Great in the US, including New York, Houston, and Austin. He said, "Hello, my friends, so I am going to New York. We have a Gala premiere of Tanvi the Great in New York, organised by the New York Indian Film Festival and also IAAC (Indo American Arts Council). Thank you very much for inviting us, and then we are going to Austin and Houston. The New York premiere is on the 19th, the Austin premiere is on the 21st, and the Houston premiere is on the 22nd." The actor-director expressed his gratitude for the love received at the world premiere of the film at Cannes 2025. He said, "I will be going to New York after a gap of 4-5 years, in fact. Last time I came back I was there for 3 years for New Amsterdam and I am very excited to show our film to my people and friends and a wonderful gathering at this festival. Kher recently opened up about the reaction received by the audience at Cannes on the world premiere of his Tanvi The Grea t. He said he was "overwhelmed" by how deeply the crowd connected with the film. The actor also shared how people in the theatre clapped, laughed, cried, and stayed back to ask questions after the screening. When asked what the recognition means to him and his team, especially after the struggles the film faced during its making, Kher said, "The success of the film on an international platform like Cannes and then in London proves that if you do something with conviction against all odds, it is the most gratifying feeling, and it will reach people's hearts. The film was made with great difficulty because people who were supposed to finance the film backed out at the last minute, but then I said, 'I have to make it because it's my conviction.'" Tanvi The Great follows 21-year-old Tanvi Raina, a woman with autism who discovers her late Indian Army officer father's unfulfilled dream--to stand at Siachen, the world's highest battlefield, and salute the Indian flag. Despite societal pushback and institutional barriers against autistic recruits in the military, she becomes determined to fulfil this mission, according to Variety. Copper, other metals drop as investors shed risk after Israel strikes Iran
Prices of copper and other industrial metals fell on Friday, weighed down by a stronger dollar as investors sold risky assets after Israel attacked Iran. Benchmark three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange shed 1.3% to $9,575 a metric ton by 1010 GMT, the weakest since June 3. The dollar index climbed and world stock markets tumbled after Israel launched a large-scale military strike on Iran. A firmer dollar makes commodities priced in the U.S. currency more expensive for buyers using other currencies. "The market is de-risking on copper and aluminium," said Alastair Munro, senior base metals strategist at broker Marex. "The key now will be whether the risk managers in the USA start to knock on the money managers' door saying you've got to reduce risk ahead of the weekend." U.S. Comex copper futures dropped 1.9% to $4.74 a lb, bringing the premium of Comex over LME copper to $879 a ton. Munro said much of the selling was by Commodity Trade Advisor (CTA) investment funds, which are largely driven by computer programs, while Chinese participants emerged at the lows to do some buying. In China, the most-traded aluminium contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) gained for the third straight day, up 0.4% at 20,425 yuan per metric ton, outperforming other SHFE metals. "Aluminium, compared with the other metals, has been performing rather strongly recently as demand from the domestic market has been robust, while SHFE stocks have been declining," a Hangzhou-based analyst from a futures company said. Aluminium stocks in SHFE warehouses fell to 110,001 tons in the week ended June 13, the lowest since February 2024, having tumbled by 54% since late March. Among other metals, LME aluminium gave up 1.2% to $2,487.50 a ton, zinc fell 1.7% to $2,598.50, lead dipped 0.3% to $1,991.50, nickel slipped 0.2% to $15,165 and tin was down 0.1% to $32,600.
