Extensive campaigns will be taken up in schools and colleges to eradicate drugs, says NTR district ollector
Extensive awareness campaigns will be taken up on all private and government school and college premises, by roping in Eagle clubs and campus ambassadors, to eradicate drug use from the society, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha.
Participating in a walkathon, organised by the district police department on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse in Vijayawada on Thursday, Mr. Lakshmisha said while consuming poison kills a person instantly, consuming drugs will not just destroy the life of an individual but also that of their family and society. 'It is important to make Andhra Pradesh a drug-free State to realise the goal of Swarnandhra,' the Collector said. He added that public can report incidents of drug abuse to the nearest police stations or call Eagle tollfree 1972.
NTR District Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu urged youth not to fall in the trap of drugs. He said only a dark future would be in store for those consuming drugs.
Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan urged parents to ensure that their children stayed away from drugs and to explain to them about the ill-effects of drugs.

Prakasam police use drones to spread anti-drug message
Ongole: Prakasam district police, in an innovative move, used drones to fly banners with slogans such as "Say No to Drugs" and "Drugs Vaddu Bro" to spread anti-drug message. The drones were operated at all major junctions in the town, and the banners attracted the attention of hundreds of people. He urged students and youth to stay away from drugs, make smart choices, and never start using them. The SP added that student, teacher, and parent committees would be established in schools and colleges to conduct large-scale awareness programs on the harmful effects of drug use. He noted that addicts are being admitted to de-addiction centers, while drug suppliers are being identified, with cases registered and action taken. District collector A Tameem Ansaria emphasised the need for collective efforts to make Prakasam district drug-free. She stated that extensive awareness programs are being conducted in colleges and schools to curb drug influence among the youth. Highlighting the success of the Navodaya 2.0 programme launched in Feb, she noted that within four months, the district had been declared free of illicit liquor. She affirmed that the government is taking all necessary measures to control and eliminate drug-related issues and called on all sections of society and voluntary organisations to join hands in this advised students to stay away from drugs and build a bright and successful future. MLAs Janardhan, B. N. Vijay Kumar, and other senior officials were present at the event.

Coimbatore City Police, Young Indians conduct awareness programme on drugs
Coimbatore City Police and Young Indians (CII) joined hands to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 with an event at Thomas Park, Race Course. A. Saravana Sundar IPS, City Police Commissioner, took part. More than 200 students from various colleges across the city came together to stand united against substance abuse and spread the message of drug-free life. Caroline Rajan, Co-Chair, Yi Health, said 'Namakku Vendam' was one of the earnest efforts to prevent society from the harms of drugs. Saumya Gayathri, Chair, Yi-Yuva, said Yi in collaboration with Yuva - a college students' network, conducted 13 events, reaching out to nearly 8,000 students. Neil Kikani, Chair- Yi Coimbatore, spoke about the importance of safeguarding our neighbourhood, friends and the city from drug abuse. Mr. Saravana Sundar that drug abuse could hinder the productivity of youth, the strength of labour and the growth of our nation. The Commissioner administered an International Day Against Drug Abuse pledge to the participants. Students from Dr. NGP Arts and Science College, KPR College of Arts, Science and Research, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science performed on the theme 'Namaku Vendam – Say No to Drugs'.

Drug peddlers will face action, warns NTR District Collector
VIJAYAWADA: NTR District Collector G Lakshmisha and Commissioner of Police SV Rajasekhar Babu on Thursday issued a stern warning to drug peddlers and users, stating that strict action would be taken against anyone found selling or consuming narcotics in the district. 'The law is strict and no one will be spared,' they said, while addressing participants of a mega walkathon organised from Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event, organised by the NTR District Police Department, aimed to raise awareness about the drug menace and promote a drug-free district, state, and country. Thousands of students, officials from various departments, and members of NGOs took part in the walkathon. Lakshmisha declared that NTR district stands united in the fight against drugs. 'Drugs will destroy the individual, the family, and eventually harm the entire society,' he said. He added, 'We are appointing Eagle Clubs and campus ambassadors for this initiative.' Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu said, 'The government is taking an iron-fist approach against drugs and is implementing the NDPS Act. We have already booked five individuals under this Act.'
