Why is Emmerdale not on tonight? Yet more scheduling chaos explained

Metroa day ago
Emmerdale has once again been taken off air tonight amid schedule changes on ITV.
The Yorkshire-based soap has been facing disruption in recent weeks due to the UEFA Women's Euros, and tonight is no different.
The Lionesses are just two wins away from retaining their Championship title as they head into the semi-final match this evening.
Sporting events throughout the summer have also affected rival soaps Coronation Street and EastEnders, leaving soap fans confused.
Here is what you need to know about tonight's changes.
Viewers tuning into ITV1 tonight at 7pm will be met with coverage of the England vs Italy football match, which is set to kick off at 8pm.
Because of this, Emmerdale has been taken out of its usual 7.30pm slot.
Fortunately, the ITV soap will be back on our screens at its usual time tomorrow, where Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is in turmoil.
In the episode, Cain struggles in the aftermath of the discovery of Owen's supposed confession, and his emotion leaves John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) rattled.
Viewers will know that John left Owen to die while he forged a suicide note, framing Owen for Nate's murder.
As Cain begs Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) for information on Owen, the doctor refuses to break patient confidentiality, causing Cain to snap.
When John hears Liam and Cain discussing the pain of losing a child, he is overwhelmed with guilt for his actions.
John reaches out to his usual volunteer at the helpline, but is torn when they suggest a phone call instead of messaging.
Elsewhere, Kim Tate (Claire King) is eager to get her hands on Annie's field, but when Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) senses her desperation, he refuses to sign. More Trending
Curious as to why she wants the land so badly, Robert attempts to figure it out.
This switch in schedules comes ahead of a much larger change which is set to come into effect in 2026, and will affect both Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

The soaps will both air 30-minute episodes from Monday to Friday, creating what bosses are calling a 'soap power hour'.

Rene Kirby dead: Shallow Hal dies at 70 after health struggles and lengthy hospital stay

Rene Kirby, known for his role in Shallow Hal, has sadly died at the age of 70. The actor's death on July 11 followed a two-month hospitalisation due to infections and complications with his oesophagus, kidneys and bladder, according to his brother Jon Kirby. His passing occurred at the University of Vermont Medical Center, as reported by the Vermont-based publication Seven Days. He was best known for starring in 2011 American comedy Shallow Hal, directed by the Farrelly Brothers and starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black. The movie saw Black's sexist character be hypnotised to only see the inner beauty of people - including love interest Rosemary (played by a fat-suit wearing Paltrow). The movie was a huge box office success, grossing $141million against a $41million budget. Kirby found himself starring in the 1999 Hollywood movies after a chance encounter with Hollywood director Peter Farrelly. Farrelly was in Rene's hometown of Burlington, Vermont shooting Me, Myself & Irene starring Jim Carrey. After buying Rene a pint and spending the evening chatting, Farrelly decided to cast Rene in his next film. In a 2001 interview, he said: "He's got a zest for life that is contagious and he's extremely funny." Farrelly penned a role specifically for Rene in Shallow Hal, which he co-wrote and co-directed with his brother, Bobby. Given the film's theme of looking beyond physical appearances, Farrelly believed it was an ideal fit for Rene, who he said "epitomises inner beauty". Kirby lived with spina bifida, which led to him having no use of his legs. But that didn't stop the actor from biking, skiing and acting. "Walking on my hands, it's just, all I've ever known, I just never thought of myself being disabled," he told Seven Days' Eva Sollberger in an episode of Stuck in Vermont.

ITV records biggest audience of the year for England's Euro 2025 semi-final

England 's dramatic Euro 2025 semi-final win over Italy was watched by a peak audience of 10.2m, with ITV drawing their biggest audience of the year as Chloe Kelly sent the Lionesses through to the final. England's win was watched by an average audience of 8m, with the peak occurring as Kelly scored the winner in the 119th minute, while ITV's streaming platform ITV X also saw its biggest day of the year with 17.2m streams. ITV took a gamble on England reaching the semi-finals ahead of the tournament, choosing to have the first pick of the semi-finals which allowed the BBC to cover three of the four quarter-finals. This included England's dramatic penalty shootout win against Sweden on Thursday, which saw a peak audience of 7.3m. England will play either Spain or Germany at 5pm on Sunday as they go in search of back-to-back European titles. The final will either be a rematch of the Euro 2022 final against Germany, or a rematch of England's 2023 World Cup final defeat to Spain. It will be shown on both BBC One and ITV 1. Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales is set to cheer on the Lionesses at the final. Kensington Palace has confirmed that William is to attend Sunday's final in Basel in his role as patron of the Football Association. It comes after football fan William congratulated the reigning champions on their thrilling comeback to reach the final in a last-gasp victory over Italy in extra time. The Prince also watched England's 4-0 win over the Netherlands during the group stages.

Tom Aspinall FINALLY has next UFC fight announced after Jon Jones saga, with British star headlining UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi

Tom Aspinall can finally move on after months of will-they-won't-they with Jon Jones. The British UFC star will take on Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi on October 25 - an opponent he's now been matched with four times. Aspinall has not been in action since July last year when he finished Curtis Blaydes in the first round of their clash in Manchester. He's been repeatedly calling out Jones, who still possessed the heavyweight belt after beating Stipe Miocic. And Dana White was hugely confident that showdown would happen but the controversial American then announced his retirement. The UFC and Aspinall are ready to move on and the 32-year-old, who has been promoted to full champion from interim title holder, wants to establish his own legacy now. After White announced the fight, Aspinall took to social media, saying: 'Finally we're back after a year hiatus. 'Me and Ciryl finally signed on the dotted line. This is the fourth time we've been lined up together. He turned down the fight early on when we were both low down in the rankings. 'After that he fought Spivac, I said in a post-fight interview after I beat Tybura, "I'm going to go to Paris and be front row for Gane vs Spivac, I'm going to beat the winner and then I'm going to beat Jon Jones". 'I went to Paris, Ciryl unfortunately turned it down on a second occasion. The third time, I fought Curtis Blayes, Ciryl was supposed to be the opponent but was busy that date filming his Netflix series - I can't remember what it was called but I'm sure you can check it out now on Netflix. 'Now we're matched up in Abu Dhabi, me and Ciryl, the fourth attempt is here and this is Ciryl's third title shot so we are trying to get rid of Ciryl Gane from the title picture for good.' No doubt Aspinall is relishing the chance to put the Jones saga behind him but the controversial American is still slightly muddying the waters. Jones commented on a post on Instagram which depicted him fighting - and beating - Aspinall at the White House, with the British star left on the floor while Jones sat triumphantly. In response, the 37-year-old wrote: 'I like this'. And two weeks after calling time on his career he said he had reentered the drug testing pool. 'Fighting at the White House?' Jones posted on X. 'Just re-entered the testing pool, that lasted for about two weeks. Figured we'd keep everyone's options open.' But when asked if he would feature Jones on the White House card - which was teased by Donald Trump and later confirmed by Dana White for next year, the UFC president said he would not trust Jones. 'It's not even about him winning the belt,' White told reporters at the UFC 318 post-fight press conference. And the legendary fighter, who has missed other fights due to legal issues and drug suspensions, said on Sunday that he was 'disappointed' with White's remarks. 'I heard the comments made at last night's press conference. While I was a little disappointed, I'm still in the UFC's drug testing pool, staying sharp, and continuing to train like a professional. I'll be ready for whatever comes next,' Jones wrote on X. 'In a recent interview, I shared that the opportunity to fight at the White House gave me something deeper to fight for, a 'why' that goes beyond paychecks or belts. Fighting for my country gives me a greater purpose! 'The silver lining in all this is knowing the fans see my heart. They see, I am ready and willing to take on anyone, to represent my country on a historic stage. For me, it's never been just about the opponent. I'm chasing legacy, something timeless, something bigger than the moment,' he continued. 'So for now, I'll keep grinding, stay patient, and stay faithful. I'm ready to fight on July 4th.'
