Why is Emmerdale not on tonight? Yet more scheduling chaos explained

Metro2 days ago
Emmerdale has once again been taken off air tonight amid schedule changes on ITV.
The Yorkshire-based soap has been facing disruption in recent weeks due to the UEFA Women's Euros, and tonight is no different.
The Lionesses are just two wins away from retaining their Championship title as they head into the semi-final match this evening.
Sporting events throughout the summer have also affected rival soaps Coronation Street and EastEnders, leaving soap fans confused.
Here is what you need to know about tonight's changes.
Viewers tuning into ITV1 tonight at 7pm will be met with coverage of the England vs Italy football match, which is set to kick off at 8pm.
Because of this, Emmerdale has been taken out of its usual 7.30pm slot.
Fortunately, the ITV soap will be back on our screens at its usual time tomorrow, where Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is in turmoil.
In the episode, Cain struggles in the aftermath of the discovery of Owen's supposed confession, and his emotion leaves John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) rattled.
Viewers will know that John left Owen to die while he forged a suicide note, framing Owen for Nate's murder.
As Cain begs Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) for information on Owen, the doctor refuses to break patient confidentiality, causing Cain to snap.
When John hears Liam and Cain discussing the pain of losing a child, he is overwhelmed with guilt for his actions.
John reaches out to his usual volunteer at the helpline, but is torn when they suggest a phone call instead of messaging.
Elsewhere, Kim Tate (Claire King) is eager to get her hands on Annie's field, but when Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) senses her desperation, he refuses to sign. More Trending
Curious as to why she wants the land so badly, Robert attempts to figure it out.
This switch in schedules comes ahead of a much larger change which is set to come into effect in 2026, and will affect both Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

The soaps will both air 30-minute episodes from Monday to Friday, creating what bosses are calling a 'soap power hour'.

Banksy work The Migrant Child removed from Venetian palazzo for restoration

The removal from the wall of Palazzo San Pantalon was carried out in consultation with people close to the secretive British street artist, according to officials at the Venice-based bank Banca Ifis's art programme that promotes art and culture. The artwork depicting a shipwrecked child holding a pink smoke bomb and wearing a lifejacket appeared along Rio di San Pantalon in Venice in May 2019, and was acknowledged by Banksy. Marked on online maps, it has become a tourist destination. But six years of neglect had led to the deterioration of about a third of the work, the bank said. The restoration is being overseen by Federico Borgogni, who previously removed dust and cleaned the surface before detaching a section of the palazzo's facade overnight on Wednesday, Banca Ifis said. The bank is financing the project, but did not release the cost of the operation. The bank intends to display the work to the public as part of free cultural events organised by Ifis art once restoration is completed. No time frame was given.

Star Wars-style FLYING ‘speeder bike' can zoom around skies at over 60mph – and you can pre-order your own in days

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A POLISH start-up has offered us a glimpse at a Star Wars-laden future after launching a remarkable flying bike. The real life 'speeder bike' was first unveiled on 30 April in footage showing it taking off and landing in a wooded area. The company also stresses that no CGI or artificial intelligence (AI) has been used to enhance the footage. That means the days of bikes and cars zooming above our heads is nearly here - with heavy emphasis on the 'nearly'. The flying bike, from Poland-based startup Volonaut, uses redundant jet turbines to beam a solo passenger through the sky at up to 63mph (102kmph). Riders can fly through tight areas with ease due to its lack of spinning propellers, according to Volonaut. Thanks to carbon fiber materials and 3D printing, the Airbike is seven times lighter than a typical motorcycle, Volonaut added. The video shows a test pilot heavily cladded in protective gear riding a bike that has so far only existed in sci-fi movies. The aircraft is the brainchild of Polish inventor Tomasz Patan, who is also behind the Jetson One - a type of futuristic air buggy. 5 While Patan's company Jetson continues works on a £68,000 flying car, his second firm Volonaut is working on a separate hoverbike. World's weirdest flying car that splits in HALF so you can fly over traffic - before the wheels drive The Airbike is the first hoverbike to achieve flight without traditional propellers, Volonaut claims on its website. Though riders won't be airborne for long. The Airbike can only hover off the ground for a maximum of 10 minutes at a time. While Volonaut claims the hoverbike takes under 60 seconds to refuel, 10 minutes of air travel even at max speeds won't get you very far. The flight was "exceptionally smooth", according to the startup, "with no vibrations and great degree of control". Volonaut has said the bike will be available for pre-order on 1 August. However, the company has not mentioned a manufacturing or distribution timeline. It has also remained tight-lipped as to the price tag. Therefore, it's unclear just how much money Airbike hopefuls will have to part with - or when the aircraft will arrive at their doorstep if they do. While Volonaut's Airbike has definitely captured interest in personal VTOL innovations, it is interesting to note that, as of this writing, the company has not filed patents.
