Severance, The Last of Us and Andor just nabbed dozens of Emmy nominations
However, HBO Max received the most kudos by platform, with 142 nominations in total. This is thanks to the second season of The Last of Us , with 16 nominations, and the Batman-adjacent The Penguin . The White Lotus, The Pitt and Hacks also grabbed multiple nominations. This is the highest number of noms the outlet has ever received. Netflix still holds the record, though, with 160 nominations in 2020.
Andor scored 14 nominations, including one for Best Drama. Star Wars shows aren't typically singled out for the high-profile awards, though the first season of Andor was also up for Best Drama, before losing to Succession . No actors from the series were nominated, which is a bummer given the performances by Diego Luna, Denise Gough, Elizabeth Dulau and Stellan Skarsgård, among others.
There was a day when sci-fi programs only received nominations for stuff involving costumes or sets. That sure has changed, with Andor , The Last of Us , Severance, Paradise and Black Mirror receiving so much love this year. Fallout also made an impressive showing last year .
The 77th Emmy Awards will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze and is airing live on CBS on September 14 at 8PM ET. Cord cutters will be able to stream it live and on-demand via Paramount+.

Emmys milestones: Kathy Bates makes history, Harrison Ford gets his due
The familiar faces amongst the 77th Emmy Award nominations are, in many cases, first-timers while others are making history for their contributions to the small screen's latest season. Marquee names and shows alike have milestones to celebrate after Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song announced the nominees on Tuesday for the Sept. 14 ceremony hosted by Nate Bargatze. Below, a roundup of milestones in the latest crop of contenders: Kathy Bates makes history as the oldest performer nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Kathy Bates, a 15-time Emmy nominee and two-time winner, is certainly no stranger to awards, among them an Oscar win for 1990's 'Misery' and three subsequent nods from 1999 to 2020. But it's the role of Madeline 'Matty' Matlock in the CBS series 'Matlock' — not to be confused with the original Andy Griffith-led legal drama, though it's referenced in the remake — that snagged Bates her first Emmy nomination in nearly a decade, and at 77 years old. Bates, last nominated in 2016 for 'American Horror Story: Hotel,' now takes the title of the oldest lead drama actress nominee from the late Angela Lansbury, who was nominated at age 70 for 'Murder, She Wrote,' Variety reports. 'The Studio' is doing double time with record-breaking nominations Apple TV+'s 'The Studio,' starring Seth Rogen as the new head of a Hollywood studio, is tapped for 23 nominations total, making it the most-nominated freshman comedy series, according to Variety. That crown was previously worn by the streamer's 'Ted Lasso' and the 20 nominations it earned from its first season. 'The Studio' is also now tied with FX and Hulu's 'The Bear' for the most-nominated comedy. Beyoncé and Jay-Z will face off Husband and wife collaborators-turned-competitors Beyoncé and Jay-Z are both up for Outstanding Variety Special (Live). The former is tapped as both executive producer and performer for Netflix's 'Beyoncé Bowl,' her Christmas Day NFL halftime show, while the latter is nominated for executive producing Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl LIX halftime show. Beyoncé also helmed 'Beyoncé Bowl,' for which she scored a nod for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. Harrison Ford earns his first Emmy nomination Harrison Ford may have conquered space, androids and temples of doom, but the Emmys have remained an untapped frontier until now. Just two days after ringing in his 83rd birthday, Ford, who currently stars in the 'Yellowstone' spinoff '1923,' was tapped for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his work as Paul in 'Shrinking,' another Apple TV+ offering. Other first-time Emmy nominees include 'Severance' breakouts Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry and Britt Lower; 'Nobody Wants This' stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody; and Academy Award-winning filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard, as well as Zoë Kravitz and Anthony Mackie, who all appeared as themselves in 'The Studio.'

'Severance' season 3 gets update from Apple TV Plus exec — and it's a bummer
"Severance" season 3 just got an update from an Apple TV Plus executive, and now I'm seriously concerned. "Severance" season 2 just scored the most 2025 Emmy nominations of any show — 27 in total. That should be reason to celebrate, but then Apple TV Plus head of programming Matt Cherniss had to pour cold water on the joy. "I think everyone's just going to take a deep breath and enjoy where we're at," Cherniss told Variety in an interview about the sci-fi show's Emmy successes. "I know they're going as quickly as they can. When you have the success that a show like 'Severance' has, you want to make sure you deliver on every level when the show comes back, and that takes some time. But they're on it, and I think I'm feeling really good about where we're at.' Now, that does seem to end on a positive note, but Cherniss's next comments did little to assuage my concerns. "No one wants it to be another three-year gap," he continued. "I don't believe that we have a production start date yet, but we're moving in that direction." Call me crazy, but those comments seem to indicate that we'll be waiting a long time for more "Severance." To be fair, nobody has been promising a quick turnaround. Back in March, executive producer Ben Stiller told the ITV morning show "This Morning" that "Severance" season 3 is coming "as fast as possible," but not that it'd be here any time soon. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "I would love to tell you how long you'll have to wait," Stiller told show presenter Ben Shephard, "but the goal is definitely not to wait between, you know, [season] 2 and [season] 3." Apple TV Plus gives you access to amazing originals with exciting new shows dropping all summer long. Based on Cherniss's comments, though, it doesn't sound like that goal is being met. It's worth noting that Cherniss's comments contradict what we've heard from Stiller to date, at least to a degree. In January, Stiller gave an update on season 3, saying that the creative team was working on the new season. A month later, in February, Stiller repeated his insistence that "Severance" was already back in production, just before Apple officially greenlit season 3. But Cherniss just said that the show doesn't even have a production start date yet. So, someone here either isn't right, or there's been some miscommunication. Either way, it seems like season 3 is doomed to repeat the biggest mistake of season 2, and take too long a break between seasons. Then again, season 2 just took home 27 Emmy nominations, so maybe Stiller and Apple TV Plus know what they're doing. 'The Legend of Zelda' movie has its cast — here's who's playing Zelda and Link in the live-action adaptation
The quest can begin: The long-awaited live-action "Legend of Zelda" movie has finally found its Link and Zelda. Today (July 16), Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto popped onto Nintendo's official X account to make an announcement about casting for the live-action movie version of the popular video game. "I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of 'The Legend of Zelda', Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san," he wrote in a translated post. This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen. (1/2) 16, 2025 A follow-up post announced that the movie is scheduled to release on May 7, 2027. Miyamoto is a Nintendo legend, having created the original Legend of Zelda for the NES. He wrote that he was "very much looking forward" to seeing the duo of Bragan and Ainsworth in the iconic lead roles of the series. Nintendo's move into live-action comes on the heels of its massive success with the animated "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which earned over $1.3 billion at the global box office in 2023. The company is likely hoping that the "Legend of Zelda" movie will join that and other recent hits like HBO's "The Last of Us," Prime Video's "Fallout" and the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies in proving there's a real appetite for faithful, big-budget takes on gaming's most iconic franchises. Bragason, 21, is mostly known for the Netflix fantasy series "Renegade Nell" and is in the upcoming show, "King and Conqueror," which stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister in "Game of Thrones"). Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The younger Ainsworth, 16, has had several notable roles. You might recognize his voice as Pinocchio from Disney's 2022 live-action movie that starred Tom Hanks as Geppetto. He also appeared in "The Haunting of Bly Manor" as Miles Wingrave and in the recent "Everything is Going to be Alright" with Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney. Miyamoto's post includes a photo that appears to show Bragason in Zelda's classic light blue dress, and Ainsworth in a green-ish cloak, though it's not quite as distinct as the more forest green of Link's classic outfit. The live-action Zelda movie was announced in 2023 and is being produced by Miyamoto and former Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad. It's being directed by Wes Ball ("Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," "Maze Runner") and written by Derek Connolly ("Kong: Skull Island," "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom"). As production moves forward, you can count on Tom's Guide to keep you updated with all the latest news, sneak peeks, and reveals about the "Legend of Zelda" movie.
