Animal Friends Release Date Delayed for Ryan Reynolds & Jason Momoa Movie

Yahoo04-06-2025
The release date for the live-action hybrid road trip adventure Animal Friends, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa, has been delayed for several months. A Legendary, Maximum Effort, and Prime Focus Studios production, it was originally slated to come out through Sony Pictures but later shifted to Warner Bros. as part of the deal the company made with Legendary.
Animal Friends will now release in US theaters on May 1, 2026, nearly seven months after its previously announced premiere date, October 10, 2025. Besides Reynolds and Momoa, the cast of Animal Friends includes Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, and Ellie Bamber. Peter Atencio directed the feature from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.
This is not the first time that Animal Friends has suffered a delay in its release. Sony Pictures initially set its release date for August 15, 2025. However, Warner Bros. then acquired the distribution rights for the movie and changed it to October 10.
Animal Friends was described as an 'R-rated road trip adventure' when it was announced in April 2023. Production reportedly began in June 2023 and concluded in April 2024.
Notably, Maximum Effort is a production company that Reynolds co-founded. Some of the projects they have produced are Deadpool 2 (2018), Free Guy (2021), Shotgun Wedding (2022), and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Meanwhile, filmmaker and producer Namit Malhotra founded Prime Focus Media. Their upcoming projects include Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, and The Angry Birds Movie 3.
DNEG, noted for their work on Nimona (2023) and Dune: Part Two (2024), is handling the animation and visual effects on Animal Friends.
Peter Atencio previously directed action comedy movies Keanu (2016) and The Machine (2023). Burrows and Mider were the creators of the GQ original animated series Gentlemen Lobsters. They were also the co-writers of the 2018 teen comedy The Package.

James Gunn Confirms Aquaman's Status in the DCU – 'You Can Cut Out Aquaman F–ing Fish' — GeekTyrant

James Gunn has cleared up one of the lingering questions fans have had about the new DCU, like what's the deal with Aquaman? During a recent discussion on Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, the Superman director and DC Studios co-CEO revealed where Arthur Curry stands in his rebooted universe, and let's just say things aren't looking great for the King of Atlantis. Jason Momoa first made his debut as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice back in 2016, before taking on a larger role in 2017's Justice League . Despite that film's rocky reception, Momoa's solo outing in 2018's Aquaman was a massive success, hauling in $1.1 billion worldwide. Unfortunately, the tides turned with the sequel. Released in 2023 as the final film of the DCEU, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom pulled in only $440 million globally, which was a sharp decline that cemented the franchise's uncertain future. For those wondering what might have been, the DCEU had big potential storylines ahead, including a possible Flashpoint adaptation that would have pitted Atlantis against Themyscira and likely set up Crisis on Infinite Earths . Instead, the old continuity has been scrapped for Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. So where does that leave Aquaman now? According to Gunn, the character's celebrity status in the DCU doesn't really exist. 'It's unlikely that Aquaman is a famous hero in the DCU as Superman and Peacemaker season 2 are happening. That's unlikely,' Gunn confirmed. He even joked that fans could create their own revised version of Peacemaker season 1 to fit the new canon: 'You can cut out Aquaman f***ing fish.' This is a reference to the running joke in Peacemaker where Christopher Smith constantly claimed Aquaman had an intimate relationship with sea life. The Season 1 finale paid off the gag with a surprise cameo from Momoa alongside Ezra Miller's Flash, where Aquaman flat-out denied the accusation. While that scene was hilarious, Gunn made it clear it's no longer canon under the DCU. As for when we'll see Aquaman again, Gunn has said it won't be anytime soon.

Wrexham hold transfer talks with former Man Utd star

Wrexham are in talks with former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen about a potential summer transfer. The 33-year-old is a free agent following the expiry of his Red Devils contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoots, has revealed that the Welsh outfit have been in contact about a possible deal following their promotion to the Championship. The Denmark international would prefer to play with a top-flight club, whether that be in England or elsewhere, but Sky Sports News claim he is 'impressed' by the pitch made by Wrexham and their ambition. Wrexham hold transfer talks with former Man Utd star Christian Eriksen 'Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like (chief executive) Michael Williamson there,' Schoots told the Daily Mail. 'But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.' Under the stewardship of co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham have experienced a phenomenal rise since 2020. They have won three successive promotions to take them from the National League to the Championship. Next season will be their first appearance in the second tier since 1982. Eriksen, who registered one goal and two assists in 23 Premier League appearances for Man Utd last season, would be arguably the biggest signing in the club's history if they manage to pull it off. The creative midfielder first arrived in the UK in 2013, joining Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax for an £11 million transfer. He went on to make 305 appearances in all competitions over the next six-and-a-half years, helping Spurs reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2019. In January 2020, Eriksen moved to Inter Milan, whom he helped reach the UEFA Europa League in his first season. The Nerazzurri won the Scudetto the following year. After suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, which was held in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, he was not permitted to play in Serie A due to the presence of a defibrillator he had implanted. Eriksen made his return in January 2022, joining Brentford as a free agent. He then went on to join Man Utd on another free transfer, winning the FA Cup and League Cup during his three-year stint at Old Trafford. How one man's superhero mission has brightened thousands of lives in all 50 states

It's not every day that Deadpool comes to visit your bedside. But a lucky number of people across the United States have had that experience thanks to Yuri Williams. Since 2017, Williams has donned an array of iconic superhero costumes to spread cheer to sick children, the unhoused, veterans, people with disabilities, and even animals. Recently, he met up with kids and spread smiles at Miller Children's and Women's Hospital near his home in Southern California. But Williams has traveled to all 50 states five and a half times and estimates he's visited with more than 25,000 people in need, all out of the goodness of his heart. 'The goal is to provide these special moments for people,' he said. 'It's a great feeling to be able to go in and uplift these people that are in need of uplifting.' The 48-year-old is a probation officer by day but spends his free time organizing costumed visits. And Williams rarely makes these trips empty handed – he gives out toys, backpacks, food, clothes, and blankets, among other items. Sometimes the gifts come from organizations like Toys for Tots, and other times, he pays for whatever is needed out of his own pocket. Williams' costumed appearances are not limited to Deadpool. He has dressed as other superheroes including Spider-Man and Miles Morales, and Star Wars favorites like Kylo Ren, a Stormtrooper and the Mandalorian. Occasionally, he goes out with a Marvel sidekick in the form of Captain America, also known as a 75-year-old volunteer named Ron. 'It's making a distraction, wearing the costume,' Williams said, 'but at the same time, I'm able to help them because they feel like they can trust me.' This comic book aficionado's origin story began in 2009, after losing his mother, Lynda Hubbard, to an eight-year battle with cancer. 'My mother was a loving individual,' Williams said. Hubbard was a probation officer, who inspired her son to go into the profession and showed him what it meant to care for your community. After her passing, Williams said he struggled with deep depression for five years. But eventually, he came up with the idea to start a nonprofit to honor his mother and her spirit. A Future Superhero and Friends was born and became a way for him to bring joy into his own life. 'It makes me feel good inside,' he said. 'I'm making an impact on people in this world, and that's what my mom instilled in me every single day.'
