No change in State BJP leadership: Ashok
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok has ruled out the possibility of any changes in the State BJP leadership in Karnataka.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Ashok said there had been no discussions at the party High Command about any change in the post of State BJP president or the Leader of the Opposition.
He said he went to Delhi recently and submitted a report as he had been instructed to go to the capital once every three months and submit a report. 'After three more months, I will be submitting a report as the Leader of the Opposition,' Mr. Ashok said.
He also ruled out the possibility of any elections for the post of BJP's State president any time now. 'There is a plenty of time for that process to take place,' he said, adding that elections would take place in the State only after the polls in other States.
'New CM by Dasara'
Mr. Ashok claimed that a new Chief Minister would be in the saddle by Dasara this year.
He said a change of guard in the State was inevitable by September-October. A 'fight' has begun in the Congress to occupy the post of Chief Minister that Mr. Siddaramaiah would have to vacate by that period as per an 'agreement', he said.
While some Congressmen admit to the expected changes and claim that only small changes would take place, others were vouching for a drastic overhaul in the State, he claimed.
When pointed out that Mr. Siddaramaiah had denied possibility of any such changes, Mr. Ashok said the Chief Minister had no other option, but to deny the same to 'save his chair'.
Emergency
Mr. Ashok urged the Congress to apologise to the people of the country if it had any respect for the Indian Constitution. He wondered whether the Congress justified imposition of Emergency or opposed it. 'Without saying anything on it, they have allowed 50 years to pass', he said claiming that the Congress now stood exposed before the people of the country.
Describing imposition of Emergency as the 'second freedom struggle', Mr. Ashok said a large number of patriots sent to jails during Emergency had died. The then Congress government headed by Indira Gandhi imposed restrictions on the media and arrested the Opposition leaders.
With regard of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's allegation that an 'undeclared emergency' had been declared in the country by the BJP Government at the Centre, Mr. Ashok sought to know from the Congress leader whether the government had prevented him from contesting elections or stopped his son from becoming a Minister.

While a section of political observers maintains that since participants are all Hindus, religious processions might consolidate sentiments and they might choose the party that has called itself the protector of Hindus. The majority, however, gives a clear advantage to Banerjee for choosing a religious motif close to hearts and taking everyone along. BJP councillors, police clash during march to corporation office over laptop graft allegation
Thiruvananthapuram: The protest march by BJP activists and councillors towards the corporation main office on Saturday turned violent as they clashed with police over allegations of corruption in a laptop distribution initiative run by the civic body. The agitators accused the administration of misappropriating public funds meant to benefit students and demanded a transparent probe. As the march reached the gates of the corporation office around 11.30am, police used water cannons to disperse the crowd. The situation grew tense as some protesters attempted to jump over barricades, prompting further police intervention. The police and the protesters even had a scuffle before the cops forced them to disperse. The protest, which was inaugurated by BJP district president Karamana Jayan, follows dramatic scenes from Thursday's corporation council meeting, which turned chaotic after LDF councillors levelled serious graft charges against two BJP councillors, Punnakkamugal's P V Manju and Pappanamcode's G S Asha Nath. CJI Gavai Backs Article 370 Abrogation, Says Step Consistent With Ambedkar's Vision
Last Updated: Gavai noted that the Supreme Court was guided by this vision of a unified India under a single constitution when it delivered its verdict on Article 370 Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai has endorsed the abrogation of Article 370, stating that the decision is consistent with the vision and ideology of Dr BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. At the inauguration of the Constitution Preamble Park at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law, Nagpur University, on Saturday, CJI Gavai firmly asserted that the idea of a separate constitution for a state was never part of Ambedkar's vision for a unified India. Gavai, a member of the five-judge Constitution bench led by then Chief Justice DY Chandrachud that unanimously upheld the Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370 in December 2023, elaborated on Ambedkar's foundational principles. He highlighted Ambedkar's stance during the drafting of the Constitution, emphasising that 'the country needs only one constitution. The country would be governed by one constitution. If we want to keep the country united, we need only one constitution." Gavai noted that the Supreme Court was guided by this vision of a unified India under a single constitution when it delivered its verdict on Article 370. The Chief Justice also mentioned that Dr Ambedkar had faced criticism for providing what some perceived as 'too much federalism" in the Constitution, raising concerns about the country's unity in times of crisis or war.
